I love these techniques because they build up speed and endurance. If I'm ever getting tired by the end of a tongued excerpt, this exercise really helps!
I watched this video a few weeks ago and it was very helpful. I was working on Midsummer and was having a hard time getting the fingers and tonguing to match up, so isolating the two was a great tip! I have since used this technique on other piece sections and it’s been a great tool
I love this video and I definitely used these tips when working on the Mendelssohn excerpt for auditions! Sometimes my tongue and my fingers just struggle to align, but practicing them separately and with a specific focus on each had helped a lot!
I have recently 'discovered' your videos. Thank you so much for these very useful, and insightful flute practice techniques, they are wonderful for all levels of playing.
This is so similar to what we do on violin for quick passages (slurred, and playing each note more than once). We also like to do dotted rhythms/chunking for coordination but don't know if that translates to double tonguing for winds
Thanks for your comment - I think it's great to hear similarities in practice between instruments where the technique is fairly different. I mentioned in about the space of 2 seconds that different rhythms, etc are good to do, especially during the slurring phase of practice. So I hope people either catch that 2 seconds or read your comment!
You explain so deliberately and well. Well done!!
I really like these practicing techniques; taking out some parts to work on specific other parts.
All of these techniques have been helpful for me, both in excerpts and in pieces like Mozart's!
Enjoying watching your channel today 💞

Oh This is so helpful for working on the Voliere excerpt from Carnival of the Animals!!! The isolation of both tongue and fingers is really helpful!
True, that is a very good application of this kind of practice. Good luck!

Ahhh! Somehow I missed that part - oops! But I was wondering - do rhythms make sense to do while doing double tonguing? or is it weird?
A great thanks. If I'm right, slurring means practicing in legato (to exercise fingers before double tonguing). If I'm wrong, please correct me! 🙂
Very nice 👌 joined u.......
Hope.........
Thanks for your note! I hope you stick around for more flute videos. 😊 Nice to "meet" you!
