Notification crew here! LET'S GO! EDIT1: I truly feel like he needs more health. Like when you look at him he just looks like he would be quite tanky. I'm not saying Blissy tanky, but being able to take 2 surfs super effective and still have a little bit of health left would honestly be more what I was hoping. This is sad to see :( EDIT2: We are going to need some more Redbull chugs on stream. Haha
Shadow Hippo definitely performs far better than the regular. The extra damage output from the Shadow really comes in clutch in tight spots. With the over abundance of Feraligatr/Skarm core, and Lanturns being everywhere its definitely not seen much, but I think in specialty cups (particularly GL Remix) it could have more play with a lot of the top meta stuff being banned (Feraligatr will be annoying) Anyone out there wanting to run a Hippo, get a decent Shadow one.
Yeah it’s too bad GL remix bans are determined at the beginning of the season, feraligatr is gonna feast during that cup. I agree the hippo will see play in some of the limited cups though, should be fun
Thanks man. Having a good time with S Feralgator. It's tough in the meta for sure. Get some rest bud. We don't want you getting too burned out. Gotta have the DO vids!!! 😂
I have pretty good IV shadow and I use Scorching Sands + Weather Ball Rock and that thing is really interesting. Its fast move is chunking and Scorching Sands do "perfect" amount of damage to oneshot or two-shot relevant pokemons. Those Azumeryls sure were surprised! Also that one turn move can sometimes pull another charged move out of nowhere, it almost feels like you should not get there, but somehow you do.
See my other post, I was running the same combo and totally agree. Also really useful against Ice types that think you don’t have any Rock attacks besides Stone Edge
I dunno, Hippowdon was a lot of fun with Weather Ball and Scorching Sands for me early on. Lots of folks don’t realize he’s got a very spammy rock attack and couple with the new sand quick attack, you can smack people around quick and dirty.
I was running that Togedamaru team and thought you might have been reading a gligar in the back and so you were sacrificing Trev. Which made me realize I was very weak to grass so I changed it up
I built the shadow and ran it to an even winrate and honestly it's just fine. Decent moves but there are so many grass, water and ice types that keeping good alignment for it is very difficult. I feel that it would have been best suited to a great league of the past; like when Registeel, Gfisk or Nidoqueen were the mons to beat.
The issue I have with 1 turn fast moves is weirdly enough, charged move optimization. I know, against a 3 turn fast move I should throw 2 then the charged move. But any lag, frame drop, mistap and that turns into 3 and they get a whole fast move through. Basically, I end up throwing at the wrong timing more often than not
@@wutangclan333 what I mean his. You will always hit neutral with rock and ground attacks. Obviously there are counters to hippos but there is no hard wall like lanturn vs skarmony. You can not safe switch in a skarmony because a lanturn can almost farm you down without throwing anything and then has 100 energy vs anything else which comes in. Against hippo safe switch? Sure it can obviously loose but no enemy can just farm it. Bring it ice to counter ground type? Well super effective rock attacks. Flying to counter ground? Well rock. Steel to counter rock? Well now we have ground. Grass to counter ground? Rock still hits neutral I just checked the stats and yeah it does hit not hard enough sadly
@@johnweig4667You're right. The combination of rock and ground is only resisted by grass fighters, but Hippowdon still has polarizing matchups that don't make it a good safe swap. My team that I ran day one had Hippowdon as the closer. The whole strategy was to have bulky mons take shield while investing none and give Hippo a shield advantage. I found Mantine lead, Diggersby safe swap with fire punch+ Scorching Sands and Hippo closer worked well. But if we are being honest, I don't expect Hippo to be good in this season with all the water.
@@omarholder9036 yep. I think it will be very strong in a fly meta. Like remember noctowl Medichan and registeel meta? Well hippo counters two of the top 3 and neutral vs the other :) but in water meta? Meeeh
Trevenant was the biggest problem my team ran into yesterday. Good choice. Edit: I was running Magnezone/Annihilape/Whiscash and had to switch Magnezone to Pidgeot, which was hugely effective. I went 5-0 with Pidgey but ran out of battles for the day.
Can you please explain what is the difference in role between Walrein and dewgon? I've seen both as safe switches so I don't understand what is a good way to choose for what you need.
Dewgong has a little more hp and defense, and drill run+icy wind is better than earthquake+icicle spear because of the debuff, even though icicle spear is 5 energy less
Ice and ground coverage is nearly perfect coverage. Dewgong is so good as a safe swap because icy wind debuffs their attack allowing you to flip many scenarios, it's got more bulk, and drill run hits mostly everything ice can't hit super effectively.
Yeah shadow is better. In that first battle you outpaced to the Body slam/Weather Ball Rock. You beat Feraligator in the 2 shield straight body slam/weather ball because you get to them in nine turns as opposed to the 10 turns their hydro cannon does

Can't wait for you to try Goodra out! I had a lot of fun with it just this morning

Ice in the lead is the best way to play this Great League seriously!

Btw I think hippo is more suited as safe switch? Like is there anything which is good vs rock and ground?
Grass? Water? Both destroy that typing...Ground does well too because half rock type

i think hippowdon pairs very well with serperior, ice types are tough but with weather ball you can usually grab first shield and sweep with serp

I built a Hippowdon. I feel like it can work with the right team, but it's not the best of the new buffed mons.
Thanks for the content
I mean I one shotted Talonflame with just that Weather Ball Rock...
Even Weather Ball is a bad move, I like Hippo but it don’t hit hard & it lacks bulk like you say
But what about Kanto Sandslash?
Gotta use the shadow
🤙
Good morning Dan
Hey
