Alexis Brown is the most sweetest, down to earth vocalists I have ever met. When my friend and I were at her show, we had the opportunity to meet her. She was standing outside with the rest of SLS. I went to say hi, but no words would come out lol. She pulled me over, gave me a big hug and said, "thanks for coming to the show" in a very timid voice. She was awesome and I'd love to see SLS again
A woman of color who can growl/scream as well as any man in the genre! I've been trying to diversify my metal options as kind of an experiment, and am so glad to have come across this band.
+Keith murray : If you want a short list, here it is with black female vocalist Bleed The Pigs Diary of Destruction The Objet (Punk Band) The Noisettes (Alt.) Stiffed (Punk)
There's a LOT of diversity on both sides. It's just an issue of nested subgroups. Until the last 20 years, metal was largely homogenized (there have always been subsets). Then, to make things worse, there are fewer female vocalists than male due to the perception of it being something of a "boys club". So we get into this sort of situation: (people who live in area where they can access gear(who can sing professionally(who gravitate towards metal(who are women(who aren't white))))). That said, I'm glad to see more. Conversely, I'm wondering who's going to represent the Hindi chicks in the metal scene.
Straight Line Stitch is so underrated it pisses me off to no end. I bet they don't have the support they deserve because Alexis is not exploiting her sexuality rubbing her cleavage all over our faces. And I have nothing against a sexualized band image, if that's what your band's all about. But I think it's unfair not to give a band like this one a chance just because the female in the band is not selling sex. Alexis Brown is one fucking BEAST of a singer and I wish more metal fans could realize this.
I agree! She is absolutely awesome! She is the most down to earth person. I met her at Mayhem fest in Virginia beach. Went up to her at the merch tent and she was so damn cool! Just chilling and drinking a tall boy.
This song means alot to me. And her voice in that key, that drawn out note, man... It hits me hard. I always wished this band made it bigger. I miss this band
I love this band so much. It sucks how this band doesn't have the fan base it deserves. I know they have had out a lot of band member outings but if they can go through all that and still make music they truly are special in my book. KEEP IT UP ALEXIS WE LOVE YOU!!!! KEEP IT UP SLS!!!!
Alexis: "Yeah, you know what, just recently on this tour something happened to me that had never happened to me before. A woman came to our show and she brought me a Goofy doll because anyone who knows me knows that I love Walt Disney's Goofy. So she came up to me after the show and she was telling me how much our music meant to her. She said you have no idea and she pulled her hair away from her face and she had a big bruise on her face. I guess she was a survivor of domestic violence and she was like, you gave me the strength to get out! I was like wow! Then she just started bawling and it just really touched me. It was like wow, music can be something that is so powerful. It definitely touched me and I was just blown away."
Agreed! Their songwriting really matured! Just wish the production on this one was a little better. Regardless I love the amount of power and range Alexis shows in this song.
This band is hardcore as hell, the lead singer, is the best, singing and growling woman in metal. The music business is always crazy, This band should be promoted, the right way. It seems Prince=R.I.P.,,, has mentored them and the lead singer, got their cd from an music store in used bin, have their past cds, too. All hardcore as hell; Like this band, They got more intense, that,s good. Can,t wait for an full cd.
I love this song. I am excited to hear the EP. I wasn't sure what to expect with the video after reading an interview with Alexis about the concept, and I think I was expecting something different, but this video is fantastic. Her vocals are great and the instrumentation is strong.
Well I like it. :) I think they have done a good job of keeping their sound over the years. Someone in a previous comment said they haven't grown any. ?? I hear their original sound which pleases old school fans, yet they were able to add some of the current Djent trend to give their sound the curve newer fans might be looking for. That sounds grown up thinking to me. - The music business is a Very tricky thing. If your band keeps it's same sound fans will hate you and pick on you saying, - "Hey, so-and-so released a new album... wonder what it sounds like? lol! I wish they'd change it up. I'm tired of hearing the same old thing. They just burnt out." - but if your band does change it's sound then fans hate you for That and will say, - "Man, I'm a so-and-so fan, but only of their Old school stuff. Their new stuff sucks. I miss the old them." "They just sold out." - The trick is being able to change it up over the years so you are not putting out the same album each time, while simultaneously being able to keep the core of your original sound which your old school fans fell in love with in the beginning. Judging from this one song, I think Straight Line Stitch has achieved that goal.
So glad to see SLS is still around and FINALLY putting out new material. But this video had quite a bit of... Christian imagery (I guess is the way to put it?), and I hope it's just in this one song and not the new direction they're taking the band. Now don't get me wrong. I LOVE Alexis, and completely respect her faith. She's one of my all time favorite female metal vocalists. And I've known she's been a self-proclaimed Christian for quite some time since I've seen one of her interviews. I just hope they don't become another Christian metalcore band, as I've always loved them for their more personal and intimate lyrics that relate to the day-to-day. Not to say religion can't be an important part of someone's day-to-day, but, y'know.
This wasn't a new direction, as she has always been built on her faith, but this particular song is a story about her finding her faith... which isn't always pretty. So the video is a metaphor for that.
I met Alexis at guitar Center in Nashville TN back in 08. my friend E Mac introduced us. I've always loved her voice and this new line up is sounding awesome.
An amazing video, this band does such great work, can't wait for their new album "Transparency," to drop June 30th! If you haven't heard this band you really need to check them out.
Does anyone know what's been going on with the band in the last two years? There hasn't been anything on their facebook since 2015 and nothing on their twitter since June 2016.
fuckin sick!!!!! been waiting for awhile..we didn't get your last EP...:-( or the full footage from the other Alexis of me asking Nicole to marry me on your stage in MD..how do j get your last EP?? I want to surprise Nicole with it..other than that, this song is the shit!! Very impressed nd happy with it..tight and great feel to it..punchy and aggressive while putting off a wicked chill feel when Lexi goes to her angelic type of voice...9.5/10

Such and underrated band. I don't care if they're not that famous, they'll always be one of my favorite metal bands.

"Transparency" is a masterpiece
This is what I like to see. A band that progresses with time not get worst. They keep up the grind and they'll make it to the top one day.
Great to see another black woman in the rock genre
Lol another...who is the other?
Skunk anise
+keith murray Judas Priestess, Jingo de Lunch, Wicked wisdom...there are several black women in the rock/metal genre.

Agreed
Right!!!!! I literally just did the exact same thing.
Agreed! Their songwriting really matured! Just wish the production on this one was a little better. Regardless I love the amount of power and range Alexis shows in this song.
This song is beautiful and artful. This song, for whatever reason, made me somewhat emotional. Who else felt that?
Semaan Nader I did bro, not even shamed about it

Her voice is so pure, so powerful! No wonder I have listened to them since the very beginning of this band :D.

Anyone got this video with a better audio quality? The volume level on this is way too low.
