  • This is a short introduction to watches with second hands that jump from second to second rather than smoothly flow from one to the other. In mechanical watches, these deadbeat second are relatively rare while all quartz watches have jumping seconds. Very interesting movements are requird for mechanical seconds to be ‘true,’ ‘dead’ or ‘jump.'

    The Arnold & Son TBR is also a Grand Seconde. The CBT is very cool, as the chrono second and dead beat second chase each other around the dial. Great video.

      Hi SouthNC! A&S has a whole bunch that I think had jumping seconds but were also tourbillons ... I just samples where the only complication was the deadbeat seconds. Now I've got to get one~instead of just looking at a quartz watch! Cheers, Bill

    Arnold & Son created some really interesting pieces when Sebastien Chaulmontet was leading the brand and a lot of the pieces seemed to focus on the dead beat seconds on top of other complications like the split second chronograph, the equation of time, the symmetrical Time Pyramid etc. It's a pity they didn't manage to keep him on board.
    Another brand that did the dead beat seconds complication is Debethune.

      @watchartsci  4 года назад

      Hi Omg, even without Chaulmontet, I like what Arnold and Son have been doing lately. What do you think? Take care and be safe, Bill😷

    • @9804216
      @9804216 4 года назад

      @@watchartsci I think since he left they haven't really created anything new, just minute updates on existing models. Same with Angelus, which Chaulmonet helped revive. But the models that he has created for them are really quite something.
      Its also quite sad that Beat Weimann has left Ochs un Junior for Chronoswiss, hopefully Ochs will continue to be able to create interesting complications.
      Are there any brands that you feel have seem to gone quiet as of late?

      Hi Invalid, some models just don't fly. Watch companies are concerned that lowering their prices will hurt their "image." One company that kept the high quality and lowered prices has been H. Moser et Cie. Exceptional Horology at about 50% of previous models and now installing automatic movements. New movement the HMC 200 is automatic ... what do you think of this one? www.cellinijewelers.com/watches/brands/h-moser-cie/heritage-center-seconds-funky-blue Take care, bill
