We all close our eyes, our ears, to what have been said about you. We dismissed it. This fabrications. This cruel chatter. in light of your decision to give up the throne. But when the truth finally came out. The truth. It makes a mockery even to the central tenets of christianity. @jane rae Harry is not a Nazi. Harry just wants a peaceful life for himself and Megyn away from the horrible racist press of the U.K. The papparatzi killed his mother. And he wants his family free of them.
"But when the truth finally came out, the TRUTH, it makes a mockery even to central tenets of Christianity. There is no possibility of mine forgiving you, the question is HOW ON EARTH can you forgive yourself?" Gosh!! That's clear and harsh in the same time! I really love it
I think the way the former prince known as Harry of Cali has the same distain for his father and maybe his brother. Writing a hateful book he burnt his bridges!
I really like how they ended the episode about his past with Hitler with just photos of him, his wife and the nazis. A way to say "look at that, we don't need to comment, the image is enough". Probably the biggest insult and he deserved it.
I think it's nuts thinking this all happened after the war. This guy had this much arrogance after seeing what the Nazis did. He had no shame or remorse for his actions. He need to be very publically exposed for anyone to finally admit the full breadth of how horrible he was
He wasn’t a Nazi sympathizer, they made a poor choice visiting him, but all the outrage towards them, esp Wallis, was drummed up by the British press. Truth was far more sad
@@79Bobolayou are ignorant and wrong. They have the letters, the proof of what he was planning. This show had eight historians working with the writers. On this subject, they were very meticulous. David aligned with Hitler, who promised him the Crown. That would mean killing his brother, at the very least. It also meant allowing the death of many more citizens. You need to research this and educate yourself.
@@hanjizoe2648 pay no attention to him, he’s most certainly the type to post random inflammatory comments in order to get just an inkling of attention, a sad and desperate attempt to plug whatever hole he has in his life. Funny thing is, most of these people would be considered untermenches back then; they wouldn’t even be close to being held in any high regard in that type of fascist society.
He was strangely pathetic, Wallis Simpson’s personal letters revealed that her ex-husband was akin to the love of her life. She never loved Edward as she had her ex-husband. When Wallis wanted to leave her relationship with Edward, the royal threatened to kill himself. Later on, it was also revealed Wallis Simpson never wanted Edward to abdicate the throne for her, she wanted him to move on. Edward had reportedly reminded Wallis Simpson what he had given up on her behalf everyday until his death. Toxic asf relationship.
Wether he would abdicate or die later on sitting on that throne the successor would be would be ultimately queen elizabeth II as Edward viii didn't had child and he was not potent enough to had one.
@@theanimarium9612 According to Andrew Lownie's book, Traitor King, there were some illegitimate children he fathered before he married Mrs. Simpson. But Mrs. Simpson was reputed to have had a botched abortion while in China and could not conceive after that. Then after the abdication and the war, she had to have a hysterectomy to save her life after being diagnosed with cancer. Horrible things happened.
@Transgender Catra That generation is dying, if not completely passed. Besides the Hitler part, he's the very reason Elizabeth and her children were thrusted into a role they didn't want.
@@bricktamElizabeth would have become queen anyway cause even if Edward managed to stay on the throne and eventually marry Wallis (or someone else), he was unable to procreate (suffered from mumps when he was 13, which caused his sterility).
@@slowdownmate1963Exactly. Edward was unable to have children, so the line of succession wouldn’t have changed unless George and Elizabeth (QM) had a boy. Elizabeth would have been Queen anyway, but she wouldn’t have been Queen until well into middle-age.
Edward VIII was a horrible king...the worst. The abdication wasn’t the problem. Wallis wasn’t the problem. It was him. His brother, George VI, was the best of kings.
@Dan Smith bruh Edward was a nazi sympathizer especially wallis😂 King george 6 was the perfect monarch needed during the second world war. As it said his(Edward's allegiances were clear) and he would have made a horrible king. The mere fact he decided to abdicate in the advent of tensions to give the throne to his brother who suffered from slutter and had no right to be the monarch he eventually became. Plus how can I forget why he was sent to Barbados in the first place cause he was still interfering in matters and his infamous visit to nazi germany is one aswell.eally shows how UK dodged a bullet with Edward. I guess we saw all his capabilities in the little time he was there
@Dan Smith and the empire crumbling was a long time coming.George didnt cause it.Intact he is one of the reason you have a commonwealth in the first place. By the time ww2 came around Britain was in financial drop and couldn't afford to keep its colonies especially when it had milked the shit out of India for 200 years. After its independence the empire started to gradually fall apart. It was a long time coming. And you can't say having Edward would be any better. The monarch Is the head of the state after all.He is not a literate absolute king😂 Plus don't know how much the morale of the British people felt when they saw their king as a Nazi sympathizer and someone who ditched them for a woman who didn't even love him
@Dan Smith Really? I mean have you thought abouit what you have written? With all respect that "the UK stayed out of world war 2. We British should never have got involved in that horrific war. If Edward was King Britain could have stayed neutral and even profited from the war by trading with Germany, Italy and the rest of the world whilst also focusing on securing the empire." is the most stupid thing anyone could have written o said. Please read about history before make your opinions.
@Dan Smith Really you are so naïve, so ingenous and ignorant, but time and history have given the reason to George VI and Churchill and the rest of the world. Edward was a loser, bullshit and a leech, and England saved the world, long live queen Elizabeth and all respect to George VI.
I respect the team behind The Crown for at least making Edward a regular, if flawed, person at first. We are following along with the point of view of Elizabeth, after all. But I will always feel so much for George (Bertie), who clearly suffered from social anxiety as a result of abuse and neglect. And to inherit the throne at the most difficult time in Europe... I can’t imagine Edward didn’t at least know SOMETHING of the stirrings of WWII. So to leave that all to his brother, and worse, to sympathize with the nazis, is in my opinion, unforgivable.
He later in the 50's had guests leave his dinner party in anger after he made anti semitic comments and said that Hitler was not such a bad chap. Him and Wallis Simpson were terrible people
There was plenty of reason to sympathize with Germany’s plight, and(only by extension) the Nazis, before the truth of what they were came out Obviously even their stated domestic political ideas were horrible and idiotic, but it’s doubtful a foreign leader would care about such things, beyond perhaps finding somewhere for the Jews to go Of course later on the truth about who the Nazis were, their dreams of world conquest and genocide, well hindsight is 2020 Also Hitler himself was an extremely captivating speaker, and his earlier speeches lured many in to be persuaded who would have been disgusted if their first impression was his true beliefs Even many prominent Nazis were Nazis only because they were hooked on his early speeches in Germany’s darkest days until that point I think that if that polt was real, it was only because of his meeting Hitler personally and falling under his spell, which may be literal given how the Nazis were involved in the occult There will come another too, more evil than Hitler, who will deceive the entire world the way Hitler deceived Germany, perhaps in a supernatural fashion
Well, Edward and George, they had the same upbringing, the same parents, and the same problems as children, but it triggered different traumas in them. George proved to be a decent and capable king despite his stutter and gave his best even when many people did not have faith in his, demonstrating his great commitment to his unexpected inheritance to the throne. It was better that Edward left and abdicated to the throne, God only knows what England would have become if a Nazi had taken over the lead. Time has shown that it was for the best for everyone. Although we cannot deny, and it would be disrespectful to ignore, that being king probably cut George's lifespan short.
Hitler wrote his ideas down people have been fooled but quickly it was discovered who he was he was vice chancellor in 1933 and WWII started in 1939 .. intelligence agency were on to him
But if he stayed as a king, the Queen will not lose her father in her 20s. Her father was one of the only 2 monarchs who died before the age of 60 within 400 years of history in UK (the previous was Queen Anne at 1714). King George VI passed away early largely because he stepped in a role which he wasn't supposed to be in, and also in a very turbulent time. The pressure caused him too much.
@@countlitmogaphil392 many people smoke in order to ease the mental stress. It probably happened to King George VI as well but I don't know. However I do think the Queen could not forgive her uncle at least partially because of her father's case. Her father had a very introvert personality, and could not even make good public speeches at first. I can imagine how difficult it must be for him to take over and act strong.
During the Abbey coronation in 1937, after King George VI had been crowned, his wife, Queen Elizabeth, was also crowned, in a much simpler ceremony. During the Queen's crowning, Winston Churchill, who had been a supporter of Edward VIII, turned to his wife, Clementine, and said, "You were quite right.....the other one would never have done." Referring, of course, to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth as opposed to Mrs Wallis Simpson.
David Evans: Churchill also asked Noel Coward why the King (Edward 8th) “couldn’t have his cutie”. And Coward responded “Because England doesn’t want a Queen Cutie”. TRUE!
This is the first time I've read that Churchill supported Edward VIII. Especially since Churchill saw Adolph Hitler as a threat to Europe very early on and said so, when it was not politically advantageous to do that. Edward and Wallis openly admired Hitler. In addition, Edward had the reputation of being a lightweight playboy for years, which Churchill would not have admired. If anyone would know of Wallis' unsuitability as Queen, it would be Churchill. I wouldn't think Noel Coward would have to tell him anything.
@@lemorab1 It's all there in the history books. Churchill was, indeed, a supporter of Edward VIII. His somewhat cold relationship with Edward's successor, George VI took some time to thaw. It was WWII that brought HM and PM together as never before. Why else did Churchill weep profoundly at the death of George VI and write on his wreath of flowers, the VC inscription, 'For Valour.'
@lemorab1 Churchill was normally a good judge of character but he definitely made an error with Edward that he later made up for in his devotion to Elizabeth II and George Basically no one really knew how truely wicked Edward was till much later.
For anyone who hasn’t seen the Crown, what a tempter this is. The Acting of Foy and Jennings is as empowered thus in EVERY scene. It’s as close to reality as we’ll ever know, highly accurate on timeline, context and content and a real treat to watch “the whole wretched circus” close up. ENJOY.
I'm a young American, so I didn't know anything about the abdication or Edward VIII until l saw this show, and actually thought they were being unfair to a guy who'd just lost his dear brother in the beginning... and then THAT episode of season 2 came out, complete with black-and-white pictures at the end that I can only assume are from the real events, and it all made sense.
He was a nazi sympathiser and basically committed treason he was treated leniency really and he felt nothing for anyone except himself and her.not a very nice person.
Edward the 8th and Mrs Simpson were nazi sympathisers and he actually gave sensitive information about the war to the Germans he was arrogant and she led him into a wide range of bad deeds documents found by the Americans after the war proved his and her treachery but because of there titles they were never bought to trial instead banished from the United Kingdom and the only way they could renter this country was at the pleasure of the Queen.
Seen the Crown, it is diffcult not to see Edward VIII as a sore loser. He was never able to be a king, he was just a leech and wanted to have the same treatment as a king, but never was coronated.... thas chapter was so clear....He was a bastard but thank GOD he abdicated for the sake of the entire world.
Oh yeah, so fuckimg terrible to live under a nationalist regime where your skin colour or ancestry don't matter at all. Thanks God Hitler lost and Churchill continued his genocidal adventure in India and Myanmar
The show actually tried to shine a sympathetic light on Edward, but the dude was a monster. It wasn't until his correspondence with the Nazis leaked until the public admitted it
From the viewpoint of historical hindsight....we were very very lucky to get rid of Edward. King George may have not been well suited to be King, but people genuinely liked him. And ultimately we got a magnificent Queen. Yes, she still would have become Queen if Edward had remained as monarch....but much later...about 1972. History is interesting. "The past telescopes into the present" as Jesus James Angleton once said.....
The Windsors were greeted by the British national anthem and Nazi salutes. They dined with high-ranking Nazis such as Joseph Goebbels, Hermann Göring, Joachim von Ribbentrop, and Albert Speer, as well as having tea with Hitler in Berchtesgaden. The Duke had a long private conversation with Hitler, but it is uncertain what they discussed as the minutes of their meeting were lost in the war. The Duchess took afternoon tea with Hitler's deputy, Rudolf Hess. Hitler was sympathetic to the Windsors and treated the Duchess like royalty.
It was that last that reeled the Windsors in. They so desperately wanted her to just be given the title "Her Royal Highness" and treated with the deference and prestige of royalty, which is exactly what "Bertie" (George VI) and the entire British establishment absolutely and doggedly insisted on not doing. So when the Germans gave her the royal treatment and even called her Royal Highness, it was brilliant manipulation.
Her late majesty could never forgive a man for handing over the burden of the crown to her father which gradually killed him. Not to mention endangering her kingdom in his blind ambition and putting his selfish desires above the duties of the monarchy.
Had I done something so horrible I would have asked for forgiveness before I died. I see no problem with forgiving a dying family member of some slight they committed on me years ago. Edward paid for his crimes as will we all in the end
He had such potential, and he threw it all away for a woman who didn't even love him. He wanted none of the responsiblities that came with the office, but all of the privileges...
She left him to die alone, his last words were "Wallis, Wallis, Wallis" It would be sad if it wasn't for the whole "selling Europe to Hitler to get his throne back" thing
I can’t help but wonder how WW2 would have gone if he had remained King. Would he have been the new Tzar Nicholas II? Would he have been the last King?
Nothing would have changed... Britain survived due to geography and Germany lack of tools of actually forcing it into peace talks, while it was Churchil who was in charge of country. King role in all of it is extremely overrated. Had Edward remained in power, nothing of significant would change.
@@ReichLife Maybe. Even after he abdicated, Edward did what he could to undermine the government, until Churchill had him shipped off to the Bahamas. As king, he would have done more. That would have led to a power struggle at the worst possible moment. Still, I agree, Churchill would have resisted to the end.
During ww2 the UK was already a Constitutional Monarchy.... You cant really compare a Constitutional Monarchy vs a Absolute Monarchy.... The Crown stated the British Government already knew about Edward and his wife's connection with Hitler and didnt give out sensitive information anymore in the red box... So even if he stayed King they would've done something with him if he tried to do anything stupid...
@@ReichLife Everything would have changed, it is unlikely Churchill would have remained as PM. In part Churchill survived him Premiership to begin with was from the support of George VI. I feel he would have been replaced after Dunkirk by Halifax (Dunkirk is unlikely to have been a success), with Halifax as PM Peace would have quickly been reached with Hitler.
All of George VI family members, Queen Mother, Elizabeth and Margaret all blamed and despised Edward 8th for abdicating and ruining their lives and future, especially George VI in the first two episodes of the first season, when George VI talked with a politician during a shoot and he said the Albert the politician implies had died when his older brother abdicated and the Albert has been replaced by a completely new person, George VI. So yeah Edward VIII basically ruined George VI, his wife and his children lives with the abdication, but with George VI we saw a great and strong king that stood strong during the hard years of WWII in Europe, sometimes those who resent having a tough duty like a monarch usually became a great person.
The issue I found most offensive - was not really mentioned in The Crown - it was the way he hid his personal wealth and the greed he displayed in requiring his brother King George VI to pay him 300,000 UK pounds for Sandringham and Balmoral which he had inherited from his father (KG V) as first born son. Bertie as I understand it borrowed the money from his mother (Queen Mary) who was also wealthy in her own right. The money was apparently paid to Edward as a annual allowance.
As we saw in Season 4 for The Crown, Elizabeth did at least show him some pity, she allowed him to come to England for eye surgery and some other medical issues, also she agreed that he and Wallis would both be buried at Frogmore - in the grounds, not in any Royal Volt.
This TV series is a drama, not a documentary and, for dramatic purposes, they go out of their way to besmirch Edward's reputation. Edward was an anti-Semite and did admire Hitler, even continuing to say so after the war. The Germans did have the intention of restoring him to the throne after defeating Britain. Edward, however, was never privy to those plans until 1940 when he was informed of them in Portugal, where he had fled, from his exile in France, in order to avoid the German invasion. He made it very clear to them that that was out of the question and spent the war as Governor General of the Bahamas.
If you are referring to this incident: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechelen_incident Hitler didn't like the initial plan anyway, and the Germans had assumed that the allies knew about there initial plan. Hence the developed a new one (=> Manstein), which obviously worked far better. Edward had nothing to do with it. This is not artistic freedom, this is revisionism at its worst, because stupid people like you learn "history" from such awfully deceitful TV show.
What made me the most sick about these two was they took tours of the camps before they were in production. They were a disgrace to both Britain and America.
I guess I should thank God for Wallis. Despite trying to be for the other side, she was an Allied asset of sorts by being the catalyst for his removal. I can't imagine the effect the loss of British allegiance would've had for America in the war except to say it would've been catastrophic. PM Baldwin and Archbishop Lang were prescient and heroic, imo. We came so close to the end of democracy, it makes me cringe.
One important factoid that the Crown left out regarding Edward VIII: his wife, Wallis, didn’t truly love him as much as the series would lead you to believe. Multiple letters written by her have surfaced over the years expressing profound anxiety and misery with being the Duke of Windsor’s wife. In fact, one letter heavily implies that the only reason that Wallis went along with Edward VIII to begin with was because he threatened to commit suicide if she refused. Not wanting to be responsible for the death of a royal family member, she very reluctantly agreed to marry the mentally unstable former King. So if the Crown were to be more historically accurate, they should’ve replaced many of the romantic moments between Edward and Wallis with tons of emotionally-charged fighting, physical separation between the couple when no one else is around, and then showing that all of the happiness and love they seemed to share in photos and interviews was staged for appearances.
They both were gay, that’s why. Their lavender marriage worked out in the end, it was all just an act to cover the fact that they couldn’t let a man with homosexual tendencies take the throne. Really sad, but that’s how it was in those days.
She was an abused woman in a time when it was very difficult. Edward bullied her into marriage which she did not want. She is a tragic figure in this game.
@@sdearing6375 Abused and bullied people quite often turn into unpleasant people - and sometimes tragic figures too. People are complicated so there's no reason both comments can't be true; "those to whom evil is done do evil in return" as the poet said.
Probably one of the greatest achievements of this series: managing to keep Edward VIII as a "grey" character throughout the different seasons ! Mainly thanks to Alex Jenning's subtle performance🙂🙂.... The only flaw would be the pretty inaccurate depiction of his relationship with Wallis: it is commonly known that he loved her way more than she loved him !
As much as I like Derek Jacobi I wish Alex Jennings had been kept on as Edward in his final appearance but I guess every character was recast for season 3 to keep things even. John Lithgow is the only exception that comes to mind.
I got confused watching Derek Jacobi in the Crown as Edward as in The King's Speech he was the Archbishop of Canterbury which i was watching around the same time.
I’ll always remember hearing when I was a kid in the 1980s a very elderly lady saying (when the Duchess of Windsor died) “I’ll never forgive him….or HER!”. And that was before the Nazi business was public knowledge. The abdication is one thing. But selling out your family and your country? May he burn in hell.
At the end of his life Elizabeth did (to a degree) forgive him. She allowed that he and Wallis could both be buried at Frogmore (the Royal Mausoleum) within the grounds of Windsor Castle.
@@Pius-XI Yes, I know--only for not quite a year. Usually Monarchs and their consorts are buried INSIDE the chapel. I am not clear as to whether it was Edward's choice or Elizabeth's for them to be buried OUTSIDE.
When you read David's letters to wallis bro you know,Wallis was not expecting him to give up his throne for her love😂 But I really see Edward just like Charles. Both really were scarred from childhood, even more so for Edward. I see Wallis as a manifestation of the freedom that Edward yearned for.He was known for having affairs with already married women even before wallis and while his brother Albert was happily married with children he was still indulged in these affairs. Wallis is that freedom and breakaway from tradition and norms that Edward wanted. Same for Charles,he could never love Diana cause Diana was everything he hated especially Diana portrayed what his family and the nation Wanted. Not what he wanted Carmella was his symbol of freedom and defiance. The only difference is Edward was the king and thus made the decision to act on his feelings while Charles was and still is only the crown prince and he couldn't take these decisions for himself. Edward sure made a stupid decision and really exposed his lack of interest or concern for the monarchy when he left this mantle in the advent of ww2 to his brother who had all the qualities to be a even worse monarch but George eventually turn out good. My main point is Edward was not really a "mad in love" guy.IMO,he was just like his brother. The only difference is his brother had his wife as his support while He had a woman who didn't even care for him much. He really is a very complex character just like Charles. I'm sorry if its Long😅 Just wanted to write it down since I really wanted to tell my thoughts and opinions on Edward 8 cause I really think he is so much more than the guy we remember him for
Yes, too much fabricated. Wallis & Edward none of them were good persons. They would have caused damages & dangers to the monarchy & British people. It's funny to see how this crown series made these two clowns hero & innocent.
@@tanjillasarkartina7201 The dangers would have been not only for monarchi and British people, but for the world. Thanks Gods that loser abdicated, he was pro nazi, and was a traitor that never would have fought in WWII and the history would have been different for everybody...

The Crown was truly at its peak during these earlier seasons through S4. I would love for Peter Morgan & Netflix to go back to Edward VII and start from there.
I read a hilarious, most likely false, "Conspiracy Theory" on King Edward VIII. Here it goes, and I quote:
"He was hooked on nazi meth (early experimentations of such narcotics weren't fully understood yet), and his so called wife was his only dealer. The photo of him and the Nazi fuhrer, was merely him trying to get the product directly from the supplier and cut the middle-man(woman). The abdication was forced because his meth secret was exposed in the very inner circles of the crown. So the crown painted a rosy picture of love. As they say, you can never go wrong with a classic love story."
Cuando Eduardo Octavo, abdicó, al trono de Inglaterra, Isabel ya sabía que su destino y futuro, ya estaba decidido, que solo era cuestión de tiempo, para que la Corona llegará a su Cabeza
Charles : ,,What a Great King Uncle David would have been in a kinder World‘‘ He would have been a great King in my opinion. Cause in a better World, there are no Nazis. And he really wanted to modernize the Monarchy.
"this was always going to coming back" The Queen Mum's statement clearly shows that the royal family's secrecy about many things was pointless in the long run, because everything will come out at some point anyway. If it had any purpose at all, it was that George could steer the monarchy in a better direction and that Elizabeth was firmly in the saddle as queen. Yes, the crown always has to win.
It's complicated, he was raised to rule so deep down he probably felt the need and want to be able to, only to realize he couldn't do everything. He could either live life with the woman he loved without ruling or ruling without his woman and most likely failing.

When a German plane carrying Hitler's French invasion plans was shot down and communicated to the Allies, he immediately informed the Nazis. A month later, France fell. The man was a monster! My own father was captured in the Dunkirk pocket and fought so hard with the English against Nazi tyranny! So many French people died! So many allied troops! All betrayed. Years of occupation which France never fully recovered.
The plane was not shot down, it landed in the wrong side of the border Fuethermore, because the original plan of attack was revealed then (which was basically world war I again) the German high Command developped a new plan that was so unusual, the Germans defeated the French and British so fast, that it costed in only a few weeks of war a relatevely few Numbers of deaths...in that way, Edward probably saved a lot of british lives
There's a lot of dispute about whether Edward ever ntended that leak - it was actually leaked as gossip to a friend that Edward had no reason to believe was a Nazi agent. Bad enough, but not the same as treason.
I wonder what would have been in store for King George and his family had Hitler succeeded in restoring Edward to the throne. "Planned" with Edward's approval vs. hidden intentions.

Edward VIII didn’t cause his death, George VI was a chain smoker since young! Anyways since Edward didn’t have any children, eventually he would be king too, or his daughter queen
Everyone hated Edward VIII because of his proposal to an American? Not only that but also siding with Nazi Germany thus overthrowing George VI and reinstating him to the throne. After hearing that I learned why a lot of people in Britain including the Royal Family hated Edward VIII. But in the end history is history. No one can be angry forever.
There’s no doubt in my mind had he not been who he was he’d have been tried for treason. I have to say there’s a lot about Edward that reminds me of Charles: vane, needy, weak, selfish, egotistical, desperate for approval, in fact a pretty poor specimen all round.
I love how people try to make Edward and wallace's relationship a romantic love story, they are both such horrible people. It's as if people were idealizing Eva Braun's and Hitler's relationship. *edit for clarity
Nicole! 😂 but we know what you meant. Agreed, it's grotesque to idolize and romanticize these deplorable couples. They're pro-Holocaust and people want to flap on about their love story 🙄
Its a very impoverished view of human nature to think that people who behave despicably are not capable of loving someone. Hitler, after all, was known to genuinely love animals and children.

There was plenty of reason to sympathize with Germany’s plight, and(only by extension) the Nazis, before the truth of what they were came out
Obviously even their stated domestic political ideas were horrible and idiotic, but it’s doubtful a foreign leader would care about such things, beyond perhaps finding somewhere for the Jews to go
Of course later on the truth about who the Nazis were, their dreams of world conquest and genocide, well hindsight is 2020
Also Hitler himself was an extremely captivating speaker, and his earlier speeches lured many in to be persuaded who would have been disgusted if their first impression was his true beliefs
Even many prominent Nazis were Nazis only because they were hooked on his early speeches in Germany’s darkest days until that point
I think that if that polt was real, it was only because of his meeting Hitler personally and falling under his spell, which may be literal given how the Nazis were involved in the occult
There will come another too, more evil than Hitler, who will deceive the entire world the way Hitler deceived Germany, perhaps in a supernatural fashion

Either way, Elizabeth was going to be Queen sooner or later. Her uncle was not going to have children.
But if he stayed as a king, the Queen will not lose her father in her 20s.

From the viewpoint of historical hindsight....we were very very lucky to get rid of Edward. King George may have not been well suited to be King, but people genuinely liked him. This actor did a great job of a pampered Edward

I can’t help but wonder how WW2 would have gone if he had remained King. Would he have been the new Tzar Nicholas II? Would he have been the last King?
Absolutely
As I remember, Sandringham and Balmoral are the Monarch's personal property, not held in trust.

If you are referring to this incident:

So if the Crown were to be more historically accurate, they should’ve replaced many of the romantic moments between Edward and Wallis with tons of emotionally-charged fighting, physical separation between the couple when no one else is around, and then showing that all of the happiness and love they seemed to share in photos and interviews was staged for appearances.
that's just sad
She used and abused him so many times in pubic and in front of others.
Wallis was placed in an untenable position by Edward - he was an even bigger man child than harry is
They both were gay, that’s why. Their lavender marriage worked out in the end, it was all just an act to cover the fact that they couldn’t let a man with homosexual tendencies take the throne. Really sad, but that’s how it was in those days.
That's utter nonsense and you can't provide a shred of evidence for that bizarre story.
“One can never be too thin or too rich.” - Wallis Simpson. From what was written about her, she really was an unpleasant woman.
She was an abused woman in a time when it was very difficult. Edward bullied her into marriage which she did not want. She is a tragic figure in this game.

The Crown was truly at its peak during these earlier seasons through S4. I would love for Peter Morgan & Netflix to go back to Edward VII and start from there.
"Is she really worth it, your family. Even your own brother"
I wonder if Will has said something like that to Harry
Don't really think Meghan Markle is on par with a nazi sympathiser.
Don’t compare the two it’s not the same
But Harry will never be king. Will and his children are in the line of succession in front of Harry. So in his case it doesn't matter.
Probably. Harry, sensative, has flung all aside. I think Megan's plan has gone very well. Shes Americas problem now.
Probably
I believe she saved the Uk from a weak King
A big thank you for this! I love this series so much and I love to watch edits on all the characters. 💖🌟
Your welcome! Any particular character you would like to see a video on? I’m working on a George Vl video.
Crown 👑 best series on Netflix true masterpiece in every way possible
Edward the eighth was a monster a traitor he abandoned his family poor Queen Mary of tec poor king George the sixth
All time FAVORITE EPISODE of The Crown
Cuando Eduardo Octavo, abdicó, al trono de Inglaterra, Isabel ya sabía que su destino y futuro, ya estaba decidido, que solo era cuestión de tiempo, para que la Corona llegará a su Cabeza
Charles : ,,What a Great King Uncle David would have been in a kinder World‘‘
He would have been a great King in my opinion. Cause in a better World, there are no Nazis. And he really wanted to modernize the Monarchy.
Queen Mum must be Irish cuz she will never forget the grudges!
3:22 what episode is the clip where he has a convo with his brother Bertie about Wallis
Each time I view this footage, I am amazed how the past is in the present with Harry and MM.
When he said loveless I was like flip that uno reverse card
As Seinfeld put it, "the most dashing and romantic Nazi sympathizers of the entire British Royal family."
Oh but they weren’t…
“That Jezebel divorcee” hahaha nothing has changed since
Yes, Camilla is a jezebel divorcee. And a homewrecker.
everything has changed since. there's no comparing the two women that you're referring to. and Harry didn't abdicate anything.
Tommy from the Crown make a video please. Wonderful work
"this was always going to coming back" The Queen Mum's statement clearly shows that the royal family's secrecy about many things was pointless in the long run, because everything will come out at some point anyway. If it had any purpose at all, it was that George could steer the monarchy in a better direction and that Elizabeth was firmly in the saddle as queen. Yes, the crown always has to win.
The Prince harry of the 20th century
Edward was a hedonistic arse without any morals...Harry is just dumb.
To my knowledge Harry isn't an antisemitic, Nazi sympathizer.
Every time he was on screen that “I’m a sthneaky sthnake” vine comes to my head.
He was a traitor and Wallis a manipulator who played him like a fiddle
They said George V wasn't exactly smart he was right about David
I think he thought even in exile that he would still have reach and power. Unfortunately he was proven incorrect.
It's complicated, he was raised to rule so deep down he probably felt the need and want to be able to, only to realize he couldn't do everything. He could either live life with the woman he loved without ruling or ruling without his woman and most likely failing.
@@RamdomRando he might’ve been raised to rule but all it did was turn him into a selfish spoiled grown child all of his life. He was also an extremely weak man. Tbh; I don’t feel bad for him at all. Living in exile while having no job or responsibilities other than partying and doing whatever he felt like; also while reaping in a rich allowance every month. But at the end of his life he felt empty and regretful? That’s what a life that he asked for himself does. Boohoo.
But yeah thank god the crown found its way to king George VI a man who didn’t deserve the burden of the crown but his people deserved for the crown to be on a head like his.
@@SymphonyBrahms it was sarcasm haha
I recommend the two videos produced by Mark Felton on this subject.
The plane was not shot down, it landed in the wrong side of the border
Fuethermore, because the original plan of attack was revealed then (which was basically world war I again) the German high Command developped a new plan that was so unusual, the Germans defeated the French and British so fast, that it costed in only a few weeks of war a relatevely few Numbers of deaths...in that way, Edward probably saved a lot of british lives
There's a lot of dispute about whether Edward ever ntended that leak - it was actually leaked as gossip to a friend that Edward had no reason to believe was a Nazi agent. Bad enough, but not the same as treason.
He's easily my favorite character on the whole show.
Mine is Hillary Clinton, hiding in the closet with her broomstick 🧹🧹🧹🧹
Men should never forget the words of Don Corrado in “Prizzi’s Honor”: “She is your wife….WE are your LIFE….”
I wonder what would have been in store for King George and his family had Hitler succeeded in restoring Edward to the throne. "Planned" with Edward's approval vs. hidden intentions.
Hitler was NEVER going to restore Edward as king. Kaiser Wilhelm made the same request, Hitler responded “what an idiot” 😂
@@mrparkerdanDifferent sovereign and of the very country Hitler was leading. Of course Hitler thought Wilhelm was an idiot for requesting he be restored as Kaiser.
Lol 😂😂😂😂 THIS MANS LETTERS to WALLIS have me screaming 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
That shits funny asf😂
Really shatters the "gave everything for true love" image Edward 8 had.
Thank God he abdicated and instead of him his Brother, George VI, was King during World War II.
I read somewhere that the duke of Windsor thought he might be brought back as Regent to replace/help Elizabeth when her dad died?' The mountbattans wanted a coup
Edward and Wallace - Harry and Megan.
The Ninth level of Hell in The Devine Comedy.
1:30 King George has the face of "Oh crap."
Duke of Windsor and Tommy Lascelles were my favourite early Crown characters. ( I will watch anything with Alex Jennings and Pip Torrens in it as a result. ). The Nazi connections of the Duke & Duchess is truly horrifying. Thank God he quit the top gig
Imagine the royal family holding their anger over Edward for the rest of his and their lives..so sad and tragic...How small minded that is and too think that it is still going on in the year 2024...Still looking their noses at people they think are beneath them...
At the 13 second mark...what was the Queen Mother referring to when she said these papers should never see the light of day?? I don't watch Netflix...so I didn't watch The Crown series....
Loved watching this episode of the crown..Peter Pan. The man was joke.
*a
Edward VIII didn’t cause his death, George VI was a chain smoker since young! Anyways since Edward didn’t have any children, eventually he would be king too, or his daughter queen
He was right about one thing. They joyless and loveless
Still to this day
Everyone hated Edward VIII because of his proposal to an American? Not only that but also siding with Nazi Germany thus overthrowing George VI and reinstating him to the throne. After hearing that I learned why a lot of people in Britain including the Royal Family hated Edward VIII. But in the end history is history. No one can be angry forever.
… except the Queen Mum
Eileen Atkins is a force of nature as Queen Mary, who was herself a monument to to probity and duty!
What season is this ??
2
There’s no doubt in my mind had he not been who he was he’d have been tried for treason. I have to say there’s a lot about Edward that reminds me of Charles: vane, needy, weak, selfish, egotistical, desperate for approval, in fact a pretty poor specimen all round.
… and they both ended up with horrible women
I love how people try to make Edward and wallace's relationship a romantic love story, they are both such horrible people. It's as if people were idealizing Eva Braun's and Hitler's relationship. *edit for clarity
Nicole! 😂 but we know what you meant. Agreed, it's grotesque to idolize and romanticize these deplorable couples. They're pro-Holocaust and people want to flap on about their love story 🙄
@@jakevendrotti1496 damn not quite sure what happened there. I constantly mix up names though. Always random like that.
Its a very impoverished view of human nature to think that people who behave despicably are not capable of loving someone. Hitler, after all, was known to genuinely love animals and children.
Edward or Harry???
