    Being a diabetic I can offer up this piece of information. Some strips contain more gold than others. Usually the more expensive the strip, the more gold they contain, but not always. The more expensive strips are usually more accurate which is why I think they have more gold. They all have gold because it is non-reactive with all of the chemicals blood contains, which could corrode metals such as copper and silver and will not oxidize over time and give a false or zero reading.

    Let me just say I did 1500 of the Accu-Check gold plated strips and got very very little gold powder once finished. so little that it couldn't even be smelted. You will need thousands of these strips. Maybe 6 to 7 thousand of them to get much of anything. Not to drop a turd in the punch bowl, but wanted to share the let down.

      @24kGoldenRocket 9 лет назад +1

      +ShootBigBucks If he refines using the Bleach-HCl method it does not matter if his source is 14K, 21K, or 24K.
      24K is what drops out of solution after adding Sodium Metabisulfite. The Copper Chloride and Nickel Chloride Salts from any Karat Gold (impure Gold) remain in solution.
      Bleach-HCl produces Chlorine Gas and breathing that in can be deadly. It will burn your lungs.
      You will not feel it as it is happening as your lung tissue does not have nerve endings. But you will suffocate if you do it wrong. There is NO PAIN WARNING..
      Heads up.

    Hi Moose, after you have a lot of strips done how do you precipitate it? Is it with the bleach, muriatic acid and metabisulfite solution. Thanks love your videos.

    • @moosescrapper5928
      @moosescrapper5928  8 лет назад +1

      I think you just answered your own question, you precipitate the gold out of the HCL bleach solution with sodium metabisulfite. Warning, if there is not enough gold in solution, you will not see much of a reaction especially if you use too much solution. A lot of strips would be hundreds of strips.

How can I process this stuff? It will be my first time, and need good instructions. • @LordPadriac
    @LordPadriac 4 года назад

    Please, please, please remember people that unless they are your own strips you will be playing with something that has come into contact with someone else's blood. That is what's known as a level four biohazard. It is potentially as dangerous as it sounds. An added thought is that most diabetics have other sharps in the same disposal containers as their used test strips. Meaning there could be a risk of a needle stick.
    IF you're going to do this I'd suggest finding yourself a plastic tub or glass baking dish with a large flat bottom. Put on a pair of the good heavy duty nitryl gloves and empty the container then cover with bleach. Use an old pair of bbq tongs to spread them around the bottom so they are all covered. Let it sit for a few minutes, drain the sharps through a kitchen strainers, rinse with cold water and repeat one more time. Even old or dried blood products are nothing to chance with.
    All that said these are not worth it. My daughter's a type 1 diabetic and I tried collecting them and just peeling them as she used them so I didn't have a huge batch to go through at once and just chucked them in a 1 gallon pickle jar until it was filled. I barely got a gram out of it. It's got to be a gold alloy and not pure gold and thin as hell at that.

      +james wilson Hi there, Shoot is right, you want to keep it air tight. I use a glass vinegar bottle that I washed well. I would really not suggest that you use that much liquid though, If you have that many liters of solution with only one gram of gold in it chances are you will have a very....very hard time recovering it, if you are abel to get it back at all. Try your hardest to not use more than 400ml of solution. Also, sim cards are not the same as the diabetic test strips. Sims actually have a layer of copper under the gold so you will want to use AP before you try to refine it.

    Another great video. I have a step-nephew who is diabetic, I could ask my brother if he'd ask his step-son to keep his strips for me.

    "...it takes a lot a lot of research to learn all the different things that could happen that could really mess up your experiment..." That's what the comment section's for: Comment: "Doesn't work! I burned my hand off while I was dumping the acid out the bottle!" ... Note to self: "pour acid gently while wearing gloves and eye protection...and don't use bathtub (refer to Breaking Bad self-notes)"
