    I've already been in touch with the homeschool liaison, and everything is going well. I think we got this!

    I chatted with a retired college professor one time in a doctor office waiting room and when he found out that I was homeschooling my kids, he praised that up and down. He said that the kids who were the most prepared for his classes in college were the homeschoolers and they were excellent students. That made me feel so encouraged.

    I am graduating my first in May and she is going to a big ten university with a really big scholarship. She got accepted to all the 9 schools she applied to including schools with competitive admittance rates. To all those parents who worry….DON’T!!! Best experience ever

    We found this when we did college visits as well. It is so encouraging compared to when we first began homeschooling in 2009! ~Misty

      Yes! The tide is turning with homeschoolers and college. Every college we spoke with had surprising things to say about homeschool students. It's not the way it was 10 years ago, or even pre-covid. I think they figured out that there's too many of us, and they'll lose out on money if they make it more difficult for homeschooled students LOL

    My alma matter not only loves homeschoolers... they host a local homeschool event with vendors for curriculum, dual credits, co-ops, etc.

    Thank you for sharing this! My oldest is only in middle school, but with highschool approaching fast, I find myself thinking ahead to college in order to prep him well.

    I didn't take SATs for dual enrollment in community college even back in 2005. I took 4 semesters during my junior and senior year in highschool. But I did when I transferred to a 4 year university.

    Hi! I am glad you posted this. My husband and I homeschool our three daughters (15, 13, and 10) and DD2 has told me she wants to start saving for college now. My oldest is going into 9th grade in the fall so we are not yet at the point where we need to think about college too much, but I would love to connect with you about your college exploration experience. We are praying about moving from Maryland and I told DH we need to consider areas with good, less expensive colleges. Thanks!

    Remember to that some jobs now offered tuition reimbursement so he gets in with a good company they could pay for their school too… my job offers it and they offer online Christian schools

    I knew homeschooling was getting more college recognition when our local university started holding conferences, seminars, and classes on homeschooling. It's amazing how much we are finally being seen, which again can have it's good and bad.

    Ah man. All the feels about him graduating. Makes me think 4 kids isn’t enough so I can have kids at home forever. And mine are 5 and under 😂

    it all depends on schools...we are touring on East Coast and the colleges here (even selective and very selective) do not have people who work with homeschoolers and many schools require the tests scores (SAT and/or ACT) I was also told they expect AP classes especially for STEM majors

    • @mandy-maltz
      @mandy-maltz  3 месяца назад +1

      It definitely depends on the school, but I’ve been hearing more and more good things about homeschoolers and colleges lately. It was the first time I got to experience it myself first hand!

      I would expect any college to require you to take the ACT and/or SAT. Absolutely have your children take the exams at least once starting in their Junior year.

    • @mandy-maltz
      @mandy-maltz  3 месяца назад +2

      @@michellecalais2482 we’ve found quite a few don’t require it, they just want a transcript and GPA. But every college is different, so keep that in mind. We’re doing the SAT for scholarship purposes.

      UMBC (University of Maryland Baltimore County) is an East Coast university that has been homeschool friendly for a long time. The head of admissions at the time (Dale Bittinger, he still works there) was scouting homeschoolers in the early 2000s and they have had several homeschool Valedictorians over the last few decades. We took SATs but they accepted my mom's transcripts and didn't make us jump extra hoops.

      We are in New England and have seen various requirements from local schools. I find it funny that they want extra recommendation letters from homeschoolers and would like to see a diploma or GED. We started this journey after Covid and my son is in 10th grade- he took PSAT and is studying for SAT because again our states schools want to see those score for homeschoolers. I am so nervous to start the college process our state and even our local school superintendent are not supportive of home schoolers. So scary...I second guess this decision sometimes both my husband and I graduated with a masters and PhD from our state school so education is very important to us.
