  • I have interviewed all of my homeschooled children after they took college classes to see how the transition from homeschool to college went for them. Briana is here sharing her thoughts on the transition. Let us know if you have any more questions. I can't believe my baby is almost a college graduate!

    I ended up finishing my AA online and completed my BA online as well. Had many nights where I would stay up until 5/6 am finishing my assignments, exams, or projects before sleeping for a few hours and waking up to go to work. It was hard but I did a lot better on my own since I was able to focus and organize a lot better. As an adult I didn't waste time like I did when I was a young adult. I managed to graduate magna cum laude so my sacrifices were definitely worth it at the end.
    Also I'm still awkward and shy but I somehow always manage to attract very outgoing and loud people, haha

    Briana, I'd like to hear all about agribusiness. What is it? Where do you self in, say, five years? Are you planning to ramp up your home veggie garden this summer? Oh, and are you working while you go to school?

    Amanda, I'm guessing you were better able than most parents to help Briana get oriented to her new learning situation. Can you talk a bit about how it was for you during her first weeks in community college? And now? How difficult has it been to phase out of the primary teacher role?

      You know, I thought I had, but I guess I haven't. I need to work on that, but it would probably be a series. So much info I could share. Keep an eye out. It is totally doable, though. Short version- Community college, good grades, work, make wise choices, and some CLEP.

    • @CynthiaAva
      @CynthiaAva 3 года назад

      @@TheBealles I would appreciate a video on this topic, as well. I'll be putting my daughter through college by myself. I'm a teacher with limited resources. Just starting to save a bit but it's still a challenge. I hope you will please make a video on paying for college. Thanks so much.

    • @yvonnepalmquist8676
      @yvonnepalmquist8676 3 года назад

      @@TheBealles yes, lots of CLEP, your entire general education can be met with CLEP testing at many schools. There's an organization called Modern States that offers vouchers for free exams (up to 8 I believe). The program is called Freshman Year Free (it's offered to all, not just Freshman).

    • @TheBealles
      @TheBealles  3 года назад

      @@yvonnepalmquist8676 I don’t recommend CLEP to everyone. It is more challenging than some make it out to be, but if it is appropriate, it can be helpful to graduate more quickly and save on tuition. Brian and I are the only ones who used CLEP.

    Sorry, confused. Is she at UofM (sweatshirt) or a Carolina school (previous vid T-shirt IIRC) or community college or you don't want to say? My eldest started this year (Bucknell) too. Mostly asking bc the residential experience can be very different.

    • @TheBealles
      @TheBealles  3 года назад +2

      Community college. Those shirts are fashion choices. If she chooses to transfer to university, it will be to a UNC school.

    Briana, are most of your classes at college? I know many in our town have few teachers or professors at college. They take their classes on line and they say they aren't liking that. Oh BTW, they move back home because of Covid 19. How would you handle 🤔 this situation? It is to costly to pay for dorm, college and etc. and few teachers in classrooms. Also everyone including professors must wear mask even in town. Are you effected by this? Thanks

    • @TheBealles
      @TheBealles  3 года назад +5

      Those aren’t homeschool related questions exactly, so I will go ahead and answer here. Briana is at community college, not at university, so she is not staying in a dorm. She does take most of her classes in person. Only one class is completely online. I think whether or not one likes online classes is a personal preference. Briana and Brian preferred them. Ricky & Marquise prefer in-person classes. Marquise does attend university, and the dorm situation is ever-changing. At first they had to leave, then they were allowed back. This semester had a delayed entry. When they have to be at home, classes are on Zoom. For both Briana and Marquise, masks are worn and social distancing practiced in all in-person classes. Dorms are costly. I do not recommend it, but Marquise insisted and he is paying for it- and he will graduate with debt and everyone else did not. College can be affordable, but you have to make choices that fit in your budget or pay the price.

      @@TheBealles, Thank you for answering my questions. The professor was difficult to hear with his mask on. The students were is their own apartment and out of 4 classes only 1 class was taught at their college. This is a small college. Thanks again

    Did Brianna ever fall behind in any subjects like math or writing and did she have testing regularly? I am always worried my kids will fall behind. I have four kids under the age of 10 and they struggle with math. We don't have long drawn out days. I teach my kids a lot of what their interests are and it works fine I just need to be consistent which I'm doing much better this school year. I worry about my kids making friends because of covid stuff and no sports etc has been frustrating

      Second, NC requires annual testing. Some years were better than others. The key is to persist. 😊 Don’t stress!
