Michael's view(s) on sex got warped when he was almost a baby. He and his brothers were performing in strip clubs when he was 5 (seeing stuff he shouldn't see), he knew his dad was cheating on his mom when they were on the road and he couldn't say anything, his brothers were having sex with groupies while he was in the room, older girls/women were throwing themselves at him when it was TOTALLY age-inappropriate, and he wasn't in school around other kids his age (going through the normal "rites of passage" and comparing notes) to even know what "normal" was. That HAS to affect how you feel about physical intimacy - even when you're older. And let's remember, he said he didn't even have friends for most of his life. The idea of being naked and vulnerable with someone - not really knowing their intentions - was a helluva hurdle to get over. Also (and I don't mean this in a disrespectful way), he just didn't seem to have the highest sex drive in the world. Sexy? Absolutely. But offstage, it just didn't seem like his interests ran in that direction. Obviously, at a certain point, he couldn't go out to "chase women," but he didn't seem to have any interest in having them come to him either. I think he got stuck thinking of "romantic love" in a childlike way for a long time - and the things that came with an "adult" relationship terrified him. I do think it's interesting that his religion (or "saving myself for marriage") didn't seem to have anything to do with his hesitancy though; he knew what Tatum was planning, went to her house, and got on the bed anyway; apparently, he tried, but just couldn't muster up the courage to go through with it.
