"Ok honey! Don't bother me for the next hour! Curtis is on!" As I sit here enthralled by another of your wonderful documentaries, on a subject that has always interested me, I am again taken with how well you tell a story, the nuances of your voice, and the knowledge it exudes, and can bring to life these wonderful retellings of history long ago. And the things they were able to save are beyond fantastic! Thanks again, Curtis, and Felippo for your wonderful camera work, for another walk back in time! I'm so giddy with happiness I'm going to watch it again! 💕

Fascinated by Nefertari myself - Her tomb may have been desecrated but her memory lives on as a truly great monarch. Thank you for getting permission to show us these things.🙏

Wow....what a privilege you were granted to view and document this collection. I believe that the contents, though few in number compared to a large museum, speak volumes of its importance. Your narration was extremely powerful in the way you built excitement towards the more important items in this collection. For instance, when you were speaking about the priest and the wood cover that depicted the God to watch over the priest, gave me goosebumps. Bravo on a most engaging documentary.

Again an interesting & visually great made documentary. I think the intention to teach respect for other cultures through the exhibition is very good. Better than collecting just for the sake of collecting. And it was great to see objects from the tombs of Nefertari and Ramses, terrible that so much, even her mummy, was destroyed. That must have been very special for you, especially with those two.

I find the images created for the less wealthy people incredibly moving. Maybe they had some money, but they were not pharoahs or all-powerful beings, yet they strived to achieve immortality and they then left their legacy for us to remember them. I am so glad this monastery has these memories. Given that the Egyptians were so focused on the after-life, I cannot think of a better place to store their artifacts than in a monastery which is also focused on the after-life.

"And there he was this young boy, a stranger to my eyes, singing my life with his words" Curtis, this documentary put me inside my 20 year old body; on a summer term in Firenze. Life was unmatchable as I clung to a young Italian, his hair flying in my face, scootering up the hill to Fiesole. I saw myself in you taking photos of works I'd fallen in love with (Michaelangelo's bound slaves, or Giotto's frescos . . .) If I had to pick a time and place to live, I would pick the Etruscan culture. I love how the women are sitting right next to their husbands on funery sculpture. Thank you so much for your nuanced storytelling. I could actually FEEL the excitement like before.
I went right home that summer and chose History of Art as my major. Go with God Curtis. Thrive!

Hi Curtis - how interesting it was to accompany you in the Italian monastery that houses a collection of Egyptian treasures that are more than 3000 years old. You have such an interesting way of drawing us into the exciting past. I just wish my English was better, but your calm voice makes me understand most things. I am Danish, born in 1948 - when I was 25 years old, I worked as a secretary for Copenhagen City Architect, he was next to his job in our capital - also an Egyptologist - after one of his trips to the pyramids, he came home and asked , to have the flowers in the office replaced, with Papyrus, which I was to learn to care for. He got me interested in the exciting story. You have to think that at that time, it was rare to watch TV - so it was small with knowledge, from the history of other countries. Thank you for your exciting videos. Marianne Svea Hermann

wow, papyrus is hard to care for if not planted in a watery area. well done!

    • @marianneheimann9598
      @marianneheimann9598 2 года назад

Yes, Curtis - the system we used was a large pot in which the plant was put - and then the pot was filled with water - the water had to be kept at the same height constantly and then they got a liquid fertilizer every 6 weeks. When there was withered foliage, it was removed. Once I was inside that rhythm, the papyrus plants thrived fine, but when I had to take vacations, the substitute had to look after them according to my recipe.

    • @marianneheimann9598
      @marianneheimann9598 2 года назад

I have never traveled further than Italy, I have, among other things. been in Rome, Venice, Verona, Lake Garda and the Dolomites. I have been to many places in Greece where Santorini was the most exciting place. In France the most exciting have been in the many caves, my x-man and I have also been at D-day beaching in Normandy. Although our travels have only taken place in mainland Europe, we have never lacked exciting destinations. The world is so big - and even though I'll turn 74 next month, it's not possible to see everything, especially if it's to be a destination with content. That's also why I'm so happy to follow you on RUclips.

    Absolutely fascinating tour!
    Thank You!
Couldn't help myself, noticing those two hands.
The proportions, length, of the fingers, are different, if comparing to ours.
There's a special feature of so called "Greek feet", where the second toe is longer than the big toe.
    Genetics...yes.
Its told that such longer toe, makes the balance more optimal.
But howcome the thumbs, and index fingers are that elongated? As it occures.
    🤔
Did these hands "fell off" a mummy, or were they severed? Probably fell off, as it looks.
But they'd found a lot of severed hands allocated at some excavation in Egypt.
The origins of the pharaohs, and the people, aren't the same.
These hands...Could they've been belonging to an Ethiopian, maybe?
The Fransiscan monks and the Coptic church seems to have get along quite well.
From a historian aspect, that's very important to highlight what was observed , described, by these, at that ancient times.
The Roman's, and other supremacies, didn't present the truth. Only what glorified, gained, their ego.
We were left with emty hands.
Now we're filling them with true stories of mankind.
Our "blind DNA" like encoded memory..to spark...connect to collective memory.
    Greetings from Sweden. 🙂

I think the hands had fallen from a mummy or sold like that for the intent of tourists ages ago… the fingers look longer because of the mummification process 😉

@@CurtisRyanWoodside yaass I went there last year and I discovered it when my friend didn't want to go and see it. I don't know if you've noticed but in the museum still stand the Etruscan walls of the acropolis. Even Einstein loved being there. If you come and visit us again I recommend you leave for the valley of sant'Elsa. I discovered etrsucan ruins in a stream of water ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thanks for this documentary! I enjoy seeing these little-known collections you have been featuring. It's fascinating seeing all of the connections to ancient Egypt in Italy, especially as I have a special fondness for both places. I feel very fortunate to have been able to visit the Museo Egizio in Torino years ago and to have seen a traveling exhibit on Nefertari just before the pandemic shut things down!
Speaking of Nefertari, I was wondering…how do we know the details, including roughly the time period, about the fate of Nefertari's mummy and her tomb's contents? Was there anything that was discovered during Schiaparelli's excavation or was it more recently?
Grazie mille di nuovo! In bocca al lupo con gli altri progetti futuri!

grazie Roberto, I believe an ancient coptic explorer (can't remember the name now) wrote about the christians going into tombs in the valley of the queens and looting and burning mummies as firewood.

the life expectancy of 35 is misleading because there skewed by the massive child mortality rates - if you could make it past 2 years you could expect to live a lot longer than 35 - indeed 3 score years and 10

hmm well most mummies we have died around 30-40 years old. so the life expectancy for people was low never the less

I’m suprised that Hitler and goreing didn’t blow the valley of the kings and other necropolises to pieces trying to find ancient treasures buried in untouched tombs. They tried to steal everything they could but I don’t hear much about them looting Egypt which they occupied I believe… 🤔

Church still won’t tell you the truth and why they kept going to Egypt? Ever ponder why they don’t have as much Indian , Buddha ,drune or other religions artifacts? Why are they so obsessed with Egypt …smh I guess if many ppl found out the truth they would either leave the church or deny the truth.
