His fake retirement bit was such a classic. I agree with Jim, he could've been an Andre level touring attraction. Definitely a face in the long run, he'd be too powerful a heel and once beaten would lose the aura of power.
Imagine am alternate universe with no WWE and Territory days still around . And he makes a surprise appearance and you hear "Somebody's gone get they a-- kicked!" He be huge figuratively and literally.
I once saw Mark Henry on one of the Sunday sports shows trying to set a powerlifting record and nearly making it. after failure, he composed himself and applauded the audience, supporters - and I thought that he was a class act then. I'm glad "the boys" supported him - because he seems to have carried that overachievement and his humility throughout his wrestling career. Bummer that nice guys get treated crappy by the management and then the fans. Best of luck to Mr. Henry and congratulations on being nominated for the hall of fame.
His heel turn/hall of pain cemented him into the real HOF. A guy that size, with that intimidating scowl should’ve always been a heel walking through everyone.
WWE dropped the ball with Henry quite a bit though. He could have been used so much better. He was a monster who should have been portrayed like they use Lesnar and Strowman. I liked the Hall of Pain gimmick. I think Henry should have been a monster heel his whole career with a shit talking, weasely manager. His best work to me was as a monster heel with the Hall of Pain. He deserves to be recognized, even though i have my opinions about the WWE's version of the HOF compared to the Cauliflower Alley Club and the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame. But as far as being recognized goes, he deserves it.
2:14 There's a story that Vince told an injured Henry that if he didn't win the Arnold contest, he would have been fired. And of course Mark won the thing.
Could you imagine Mark in the territories v Andre? They coulda taken that all over! End it with Andre putting him over in their final. Give him slick as a manager or teddy long even...
@@Aphelion_k9f I think Andre woulda been blown away for sure, but I also think that with how Mark cares about the business that Andre would have absolutely loved Mark and would have put him over the moon careerwise
@@Aphelion_k9f yet was defeated by big show. Also whenever he came out victorious against him it was either through ring breaking or disqualification, he never pinned him. Goldberg always had the pinfall victories against his opponents.
Hall of fame is really stupid. However you need remember 2 think: A) WWE put in it only retire wrestlers (while Christian is still wrestle) B) They can't put in HoF wrestlers who in different promotion (because of legal reason)
The thing about Henry is that he didn’t really ever look super strong as a person in the ring (even though he was), so his “World’s Strongest Man” gimmick wasn’t realistic, since he wasn’t even competing anymore, never won Gold at the Olympics, and didn’t compete in a major strongman contest up until the Arnold Classic (which he won). Now, Big Show, Lesnar, and even Kane had way better moves that made them look legit strong. Mark Henry never really had any impressive moves. He was a boring, dull, wrongfully used wrestler up until his Hall of Pain gimmick. Even then, he was as boring as they came because his wrestling sucked. He should have changed his wrestling style to be faster and more hard hitting.
Now we can't blame the company for everything. There is a compilation vid with guys talking about taker. Forst time mh met tsker. He got pissed because taker had said he had a great babyface. He follows up this story by saying he had a terrible attitude so no one wanted to train him it was so bad. Thats why instead of sucking his first yeat and then getting better.he just sucked for. 3 years
Met this prick in 1999 and don’t have a good word to say about him. I was ten years old and asked politely for his autograph, and he abruptly put his hand in front of me and said ‘No, not tonight’. He never drew a dime, couldn’t cut a promo, couldn’t wrestle his way out of bed.
Matthew Booth Not at all. He was a baby face. But to do that to myself, a kid who just wanted a couple of seconds of his time never left my mind. Even Chris Jericho, who had problems with his credit card at the hotel reception, took time out his situation, to sign my book and say ‘There you go buddy!’. So fuck you once again Mark Henry and the hand that came out of Mae Young!
Jim,you forgot to explain the "black andre the giant" comment. You could of just said "he could of been a traveling attraction just like andre".We already know he's black!!!
The hof is a joke! Wrestlers that spent 30 years and paid their dues are overlooked by Molly holly are the Bella twins, and others not saying they didn’t work hard but it’s no comparison!
Calling Mark the black Andre the Giant is not racist at all! That's like an ultimate compliment!!
@Brandy Baker examples?
I’m black and trust me you can tell corny isn’t racist

No he couldn't love Mark but he was just a big guy fat/muscular not unusaully like Andre
During his run as the monster heel & "The Hall of Pain", I would have loved to have seen him squash Hulk Hogan.
Like hogan would’ve agreed to put a promising talent over
For the first time I saw the Hall of Pain last night wow they should’ve done that earlier in his career and last longer
With hindsight being 20/20... I bet Mark woulda taken serious pleasure in that. Probably woulda put Hulk in a shoot hall of pain lol
@@dannyquang7359 he put lesnar over
@@Biggie2829 Goldberg, Luger, Warrior, Sting, Tony Atlas, Curt Hennig...

Yeah the HOP woulda been great all over his career like the Legend killer Orton...

Good for you Mr. Henry. This is well deserved.

I'm very happy about this. I would love to see his HOF induction😍😍😍
For a long time Henry wouldn't have deserved it to be honest, but his 2006-13 run is worthy.

Well even better WWE HOF joke at least has some legit inductees

Mark was strong enough to have handled Andre too. Andre would have been bewildered working with Henry.

"Eight Wonder of the World" vs "World's Strongest Man" really sounds like an awesome 70s-80s main-event in every town, it will be huge fucking money.

With his credentials he should have been booked like Goldberg only as a heel.
During his Hall of Pain run he basically was.

D-Lo or Teddy should induct him.
Man they screwed mark so many times, he should’ve had way more championship runs.
Or at least a year plus quality run where he was dominating. He was believable. Mark Henry was one of the best super heavyweight’s of all time
Actually there was a Black Andre, The Giant. "Strong Man" Tony Atlas
I liked him better than the Big Show.
love Mark Henry this is awesome.
I wonder what a match between him & Braun Striwman would be like.
Why does Jim love him when he's a mark.
LMFAO
Ha
The guys start looking at him because of his big...CONTRACT

Not bad for a malcontent pissed that the industry didn't revolve around him and his race ..
Mark is a legend I'm happy that he is a HOFer
Hall of Pain was epic
This hall of fame doesn't mean anything. The Bella twins are in but Christian isn't?
Christian isn't in? Wow.
I'm sure Edge and Christian are in, but let's be real *BROTHER,* the WWE HOF is about who's made Vince the most money.
