    Love how the middle support slat also does work holding the headboard in place. Allows you to use those simple clean dovetails with no glue and no fear of it moving out of place. Very good design!

      @@BauWoodworks its amazing cause When you first put it together took me a while to realize that between the weight of the sleepers and the dovetails on the middle braces this bed is probably the most stable ive seen on youtube even though it takes 2 seconds to assemble and no hardware. Im hoping to make a castle joint bed soon.

      Get a chisel and a mallet and a couple of handsaws and you would be amazed at what you can build. Especially if you don’t have much space, hand tools are really great and can be quite fast with a little practice. Sometimes the fun isn’t in getting a new tool but in figuring out how to make what you want with the tools that you do have.

    Hi Fabi, awesome project and a stunning end result! Thnx for sharing. Some questions: What is the function of the beam installed at 10:55? And how did the stability work out in the end with the heavy head board? Was there any wobble or were there loose / moving parts? Are there lessons learned worth sharing? Thanks in advance.

    • @BauWoodworks
      @BauWoodworks  3 года назад

      Thank you Martijn 🤗
      So the beam you mentioned prevents the two sides from sliding out of place. The headboard has the pins part of the joints and the sides the tails.
      There is no wobble or anything. It holds together way better than I thought. I expected it to habe some kind of wiggle or racking that I would have been forced to adress. But there wasn't 😁
      The headboard is actually very balamced and can stand on its own. With the rest of the bed attached it is going nowhere.
      All in all I am very happy with the result and cannot think of something that I would really change. Maybe I would give the sides the pins in the back too so I can skip the beam we talked about. But that beam is sooo satisfying to put in place that I would likely do it again 😅

    • @propeer
      @propeer 3 года назад

      @@BauWoodworksThnx for your reply. I see it now. I thought the sides had symmetrical ends, but the end on the side on the head board indeed is mounted from the right (in the movie). I can imagine having symmetrical ends on the side parts only required you to have the middle beam holding the headboard and foot section together. Good to know it all got very stable. I might copy some design details for my own bed 😉

      @@BauWoodworks Eins kann ich sagen: ich bin mir sehr sicher, dass ich das Bett diesen Frühling nachbauen werde. Da ich noch nicht mit so dicken Bohlen gearbeitet habe, wollte ich fragen, ob Du erwartest, dass sich das Holz noch verzieht oder später noch Risse auftreten werden?

    • @BauWoodworks
      @BauWoodworks  3 года назад

      Ohh sehr cool! Lass mich unbedingt wissen wie es läuft und wie es dann geworden ist 😍
      Also ich habe das Holz kammergetrocknet gekauft. Dann noch ein wenig in der Wrkstatt aklimatisieren lassen und dann von 52 auf 35mm gehobelt. Meiner Erfahrung nach verziehen sich Bretter in dieser Stärke dann kaum mehr insbesondere wenn nicht so viel abgehobelt wurde oder nicht aufgetrennt.
      Die Konstruktion des Bettes lässt das Arbeiten des Holzes jedoch zu und verhindert das verziehen. Z.b. mit der Gratleiste am Kopfteil.
      Risse können natürlich auftreten wenn das Holz noch weiter trocknen sollte. Durch das aklimatisieren und das vorherige Kammertrocknen ist das risiko allerdings recht gering 👌
