The stone used in ancient times to press olives for oil is called a gathsemane stone. The weight of the world presses Christ and He sweats blood like precious oil.
Jonathan Pageau is probably the most helpful source for me when it comes to fleshing out Christianity in the deepest sense. His brothers book 'The Language of Creation' is priceless as well. Since reading it, I firmly believe that most modern western people probably should read it, at least once, before giving the Bible a try. Why? The book makes the case. Thank you for everything you do, from Sweden.
Hello. So you say it's better to read The Language of Creation first? I have the book, but I thought that it would be more appropriate to read a version of the Bible I'm comfortable with before trying Matthieu's book. I just want to be sure, as I haven't settled down with a Bible yet, but if so then I already have something to read straight ahead!
@@LudiusQuassas To me it was the biblical lecture of Peterson that open my mind to it, then Jonathan, then Mathieu’s book. But I started out as a typical modern leftist scientific atheist.
Haven't read his brother's book yet but I got really interested after watching the two brothers talking about symbolism on a previous video here in this channel. I've recently read Mathew's Gospel on the Orthodox Study Bible and, reading it carefully with all the patristic commentaries, and after praying "The Prayer Before Reading the Holy Scriptures", it was a mind-blowing life-changing experience. Pageau's videos are really really inspiring. My grateful thanks flying from Rio, Brazil.
What I enjoy about Jonathan is that he not only goes into symbolic depth, but also addresses the simple practicality of the subject matter. It's the perfect coherence because life truly is simple and complex simultaneously, and only through that lense can we perceive it accurately. One time he was describing how water, to materialist, is "just" 2 hydrogen atoms attached to 1 oxygen, and they insist that the meaning or purpose isn't any deeper than that. But Jonathan said, while this is true on a materialistic level, it's not true of its meaning and purpose. Water is also wet, refreshing, hydrating, nourishing, cleansing, catalyzing, malleable, can be solid, liquid, or gas, can cut through diamonds, can destroy entire cities, acts as a medium of transportation, etc.. there's a million purposes and functions of water on a practical level, but on a physical level, yes, it is technically H20. I feel like Jonathan utilizes this ideology in all of his teachings and it's really refreshing
@@LudiusQuassas Definitely yes. If you're not already soaked in symbolic thinking and have a deep knowledge of the basic patterns in the bible; I'd say you should start with The Language of Creation. It will give you new eyes with which you can begin with the bible. If you're anything like me (a bit clueless) you will be much better prepared.
I get very emotional to see where Jesus Christ prayed to the Father. Thanks for letting me see this. Jesus Christ, our beloved Prophet, Priest and King. ✝️🙏
Amen. The same pattern of moving up a mountain to find Divinity, turning from quantity to quality, happens in the Transfiguration. So grateful for finding Pageau's channel.
I grew up in the church, read and heard all these stories multiple times. They’ve always have been meaningful, however, you and your brother take it to a whole other level. Blessings to your both.
The Greek term for 'young man' appears twice in the Gospel of Mark - first, as read here, in Mark Ch 14 v51, when a 'follower' loses his cheap linen garment, and, second, when a 'young man' is found in the empty tomb by the women (16/5), this time clothed in a bright white robe. A direct literary clue to the meaning of the story. I don't know if Jonathan descended a little way from Gethsemane into the Kidron valley - the valley of darkness - but that place is SCARY. Just ancient tombs and stray dogs...
The breakdown/fracture of the apostles at the betrayal reminds me of thorns and thistles brought by the fall. Thank you for revealing this cosmic image
It's cool too because when Moses comes down from the mountain he says that Isreal are naked before the other nations, so there's that connection as well
Been on here since 08' and just happened to find yours, I had to subscribe! How are you so Knowledgeable dear one, I really look forward to watching your videos.. Thank You, I'm Rebecca
Greetings Jonathan, I see and hear much of Christ in you☦️. I want to ask your take on the symbolism behind Jacob wrestling with God. Thank you and God bless as you continue on your journey.
So funny how I was raised to think that religious stories were almost arbitrary details. Like the man dropping his robe and leaving naked was essentially a confusing detail absent the symbolic meaning applied here.
I was reading a book recently where Christ's final night in the Gospel of Mark is quoted, and when it got to the part about the youth whose garment was stripped off of him by the officers, sending him fleeing into the night, I immediately remembered the scene in Exodus (that I had read earlier this year) where a youthful Joseph is stripped of his garment by the Pharoah's wife as he fled her. I feel these two scenes are symbolically related somehow.
Btw, the book I was reading was Joseph Campbell's "Occidental Mythology", Pt. Three: The Age of the Great Classics, Chapter 7 Great Rome: c. 500 B.C. - c. 500 A.D., IV. The Risen Christ. Part IV. Goes through the orthodox narrative of Christ's life. The following Pt.V is titled "The Illusory Christ", and describes the Gnostic perspective of Christ. I remember reading this part on the ancient Gnostics, back in the 2000s, for the first time, and being amazed.
Maybe that happened like that. It is, regardless, how we need to approach God: "Thy will, not my will." But Jesus also said he had all power over heaven and earth. If we had that power, would we choose to experience pain? In the same way, Jesus supposedly lost touch with his Father on the cross. He supposedly said he thought he was forsaken by God. The story does tell us how to reconnect with God, by realizing that we are faulting those who we think put us in that situation, " Forgive them for they know not what they do." So it is forgiveness, not sacrifice that brings us back to God, seeing us all as his pure creation. " If you had known what these words mean, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent."
Johnathan, your words are powerful and filled with pearls of wisdom! Respect and honor your message by investing in a quality microphone and recording videos when there’s less noise. However, one of the commenters alluded to the ideas that the chaos of the honking and traffic noise has some symbolism related to this meditation✨
Thank you for this Jonathan. Is there a connection between Jesus returning to find the apostles sleeping 3 times and then later telling Peter that he will deny Him 3 times? Thanks and God Bless you!
Well, it sorta shows how the disciples got hit with a sucker punch after repeated warnings by Jesus. As a result Peter panicked and cut off the soldier’s ear when it was already too late.
Please forgive me for asking this question here. A close friend, who lives in Toronto, goes through a rough period. Does anyone know a good orthodox church (good orthodox priest) to recommend in Toronto?
The Son of Man (the thinking animal) is delivered into the hands of Reification Sinners. The make believe bedrock of our common sense Mind. Yet, the spirit of the Father, humanity's Star, the sun guides us upwards and onwards towards a return to the Garden of Eden birth of human race as move beyond tribalism, nationalism, and racism back to the reality of one Human Family.
@Artem Down How pray tell are so many separate bodies, one body? Perhaps you should acquire some knowledge about your reality & try to feel your nervous system orchestrated behaviour & how your conscious mind is created. Check out the meaning of the word Primate to understand why your a thinking animal.

Wow... and olive oil was used for lamplight. And the blood of Christ brings spiritual light to deliver us from darkness. God bless.
Kyrie, Eleison
Thank u. I didn't know that
I can't even imagine how it feels there. I'm getting secondhand chills

Are these "chills" a good thing? A warning? I've never understood placing so much stock in a feeling that crawls across the skin

Love this analysis and breakdown. The Bible is truly a hyperlinked text of synchronization. Divine authorship ✝️

It’s so weird to see such an ancient and holy site, with the sound of modern traffic in the background
This video came out on a Thursday, the day when this event is remembered during the Passion week. Talk about synchronicity.

I think my mind just exploded. That was incredible, and I’ll be sitting with this in meditation. Thank you, Jonathan.
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin!
Thank you sir, it was very enlightening
What's a lovely meditation. I never ever would have put all that together myself. 💗
Really excellent! Thank you Jonathan!! ☦️

Thank you for showing us this Holy place.. It's the next best thing to being there physically.

Thank you for doing this video. You looked extremely tired. Hope you’ve gotten to catch up on rest since this was recorded 🙏🏼
The burnouts and honking kind of kill the mood 😄 I'm sure there's symbolism there
Barbarians barking at the edge of the video
Something to do with the falling asleep part.
The chaos caused by the betrayal?
Amazing! A wonderful video

Outstanding!
He swept blood because he was anxious. Rather he swept blood because his heart was completely bleeding for the humankind and (future) church.

Woah
I could listen you read the whole Bible.
Falling asleep 3 times by Peter is also a foreshadowing of his denial of Christ 3 times.
Anyone know what the painting is called in the background when the verses are shown? Does not look like an icon.
The little naked boy. Seems like a reminder we were all born free of judgment.
What is jesus doing with a naked boy at 4am?
