    "This thing still here?"
Yeh it was a meme among the players for a while that the develoeprs kinda just forgot about the Sword. In an interview with a RUclips creator the Game Director was asked if there were any plans for that sword to which he with a smile and jokingly replied "What sword?"
During the last BlizzCon when they showed this cinematic with Anduin the Game Director entered the stage during a panel wearing a T-shirt with that sword on it and the text "What sword" so, the devs are well aware of the memes in the community!

    >give the animators a round of applause
Better give them a standing ovation, because believe it or not, none of that was motion captured. It was all animated by hand!

"what's happened to him?" well let's see, lost his mother at a real young age, his arguably best friend incidentally may have gotten his father killed, father died in Legion, in BFA he had to step into Varian's shoes and lead; people got killed, he got mind controlled and there was a part of him that liked what he was forced to do, hinting that he has a Jekyll and Hyde thing going on, which that last part scares the bejesus outta him, cause he's worried that he'll kill a trusted friend. but yeah, Anduin's been through a lot.

Anduin, the scruffy human in the beginning, is the same guy you saw conjure a massive bubble of Light in a previous cinematic (Battle for Azeroth).
Since then he grew up and Shadowlands happened to him (the part where Sylvanas, the elf lady, rips apart the helmet and also the sky.
During Shadowlands Anduin is taken by the Jailer, the leader of what's probably the closest Warcraft has to a Hell for the Tormented. While under the Jailers control he was literally mindcontrolled, or rather his body was not his to control. He was still aware of all the horrific things the Jailer made him do, the people he ended up killing, but he was unable to stop it. In one of the last cinematics of Shadowlands we meet Anduin talk to Sylvanas and he tells her that he was scared of himself now. Because deep down a part of him enjoyed all the killing an mayhem he caused. Or, he's not sur ehe did, or if that was the Jailer's feelings he felt while controlled. He's afrad that he's no longer Holy end devout enough to call on the Light. It's one of those things where if you never try you can still have a sliver of hope, but if he tries to call on the Light and it fails, then he knows he's fallen. Or, at least that's how he thinks.
So when Anduin here says he has no Light he feels he is no longer worthy of the Light, and no longer being connected to the Light means everything he ever was and all his comforts are all gone. He was trained as a Priest and he's been able to heal and even at one point resurrect with the help of the Light. But now, who is he?
I guess an Easter Egg, remember the big dark Lich king dude on the glacier that raised a dragon? The pose of holding out the sword is the same with both the Lich king and Anduin here. It's been used a few times during the many years of cinematics and it always brings back memories of that Lich king cinematic. Which means it is very intentional by the creators that the audience should make that call back, or they would use a different pose.

Yep, the sword was a meme in the community for a while because since that happened all the way back in legion they kinda just ignored the massive sword in the earth (well, azeroth) all that time until now. "What sword?"

If you want to go through all the content, it would take ages to catch up.
But just getting to the level where you can do the latest expansion is very fast.
When the 11.0 patch drops (likely in late July or August) they're going to be retooling the new player experience a bit so that you go through the now-current expansion Dragonflight as your leveling journey, which will make the experience a lot smoother. You could start when that drops and easily be max level before the expansion's release a few weeks later.

Xal'atath, one of the newest villains, so deliciously Machiavellian. She has won the hearts of old and new fans alike. Would you believe we knew her only as a knife for like 3 years?

If you're wanting to get into WoW just alone it doesn't take very long at all to get to current expansion content, now if you're wanting to go through every zone, dungeon, and raid for lore while doing so that'll take more time, I'd hop in now right before the new expansion comes out

Lore-wise there's a lot to catch up on which should just be done through Lore videos mostly. Gameplay wise they give you a short tutorial area then pop you into a previous expansion of your choice, and then the latest one Dragonflight. Shadowlands would explain what's going on with Anduin.

You dont need to catch up, U can watch some lore vids which you already have partially done btw, And/Or you could just start, since most of the lore quests rn have options to ask about what is going on if that quest is talking about something that happened a while ago.

The War Within comes out in September, most likely. there is an event that ends just before what we believe Prepatch begins, where they give us an easy way to get some decent gear for the new expansion, so you arent struggling if you come into the game late.

Getting into wow doesn't take years as you'd expect. I started playing with Dragonflight and it took me ~ 3 months (albeit having alot of experience playing other mmos) to fully grasp the game, gameplay, systems, endgame, raids, etc.
Leveling is extremely fast, theres lots of casual & social guilds with players willing to help someone new understand the game. You're able to chose an expansion to play through for your pre-dragonflight leveling experience after getting through the tutorial, which allows to chronologically catch up with the in-game story.
For the best community feeling i'd personally recommend RP realms as they probably have a bigger sense of community over the others.
Right now would probably be the best time to get into the game as a brand new player, so by the time the war within comes out, you're most likely caught up and ready tear shit up.
In case you intend to stream your first time on WoW: play at your own pace, dont let chat backseat as it tends to happen A LOT to new MMO players and just try to enjoy the game for what it is (:

World of Warcraft is designed to get players into the latest content as quickly as possible. The old content is there to play at your own pace, but if you're excited about whatever new thing is happening, it probably won't take mkre than a few weeks of casual play to get caught up.
However, World of Warcraft is a very complicated (some might even say archaic) game by today's standards. The classes have a lot of abilities, and even if you choose a simple one you can easily be overwhelmed by the number of buttons.
The game does a poor job of explaining most mechanics. Pretty much everyone depends on guides and community help to get started - and to keep going. It's common for everyone to look up videos on how to defeat bosses before ever trying to fight them.
It's one of my favorite games, but it's grown with me for over a decade. I totally understand why new folks have a hard time. But it's free to try it out if you want to give it a shot.
Great videos. I'd be glad to see more; I don't think you've done Dragonflight yet.
