haha me too! Hardly anyone knew him then, and even less now. I was 20 in '89 when I bought this cassette. This song creeped me out in the best way. Still gives me chills. It's like I have a secret that others don't know, and if they did, they still wouldn't get it. I think you just had to be there when it was fresh to understand the significance and shock of it all.
fantastico nick cave l ho visto in concerto a roma nel 1989 e ad arezzo ne 2001 concerti del genere restano scolpiti nella storia del rock ma direi della musica in generale...grande nick
You`re right, this Concert was great. I was 11 by the time but i saw and recorded it on television. I will upload the whole gig, but i need a VHS-Card for my PC. Cheers
I Think he has one of the most amazing voices and tallent's with piano and playing. i've loved his sound since and before TheBirthdayParty- lets say the song say a spell, made me cry along with this song, he is supposed to sound raw as is life and the plea of mercy itself. as for a bad singer, i disagree! and his later stuff will show you the diference in wich he can use it. into my arm's is beautifal so are a lot of other song's but his raw tallent moves me, as all raw beauty does.
Nice! (laughingly) Well that was me for years about Bob Dylan, then I realised the years of listening pleasure that I missed out on because "he can't sing." The radio is FULL of people who can sing, and it's a putrid cesspool, at least here in the States. Thank the heavens for youtube
And why don't people appreciate his genius? Just this song for instance - writing from the viewpoint of John the Baptist just before his beheading? Who thinks of that stuff?! It's beautiful, twisted, warped, disturbing, intriguing. It's art, just not as pretty as some would like.
This must've been some show to witness! The Your Funeral,My Trial version was beautiful, and this is no different-maybe even more emotive, if anything. Are there any other vidoes from this concert floating around?
Haha so true! But you're right. It is cool that nobody gets it. So many people who DO like this genre of music say they prefer Tom Waits. But I have to say I'd rather listen to Nick. This, Muddy Water, Knocking On Joe. Great stuff. I think his best 3. And the line "My cos' was workin' miracles," wow, so creepy. In my opinion, there's your calf :-)
I can watch this perfomance over and over again
