Don't know about the movie, but honest think that those effects and cgi were absolutely mind boggling!!! The probably could have been more practical work but with these skills a whole movie could be CGI!!! Amazing, who ever animated the rigs and all the rest are very talented
Absolutely mesmerizing. Poetry in motion. I was glued the entire reel and I'm an "old fogey" of 62. My daughter and I watched "In The Mind's Eye" decades back and said that it was just the beginning and wonders were to unfold. Thank you for proving it so eloquently. A high five seems inadequate, this is first rate!
main road thank you for this amazing clip, i was a beginner 3D animation artist over 10 years ago but due to circumstances i did not manage to go very far with it, this clip has inspired me to get back to it, not many people can see the level of detail and the dedication that one put into these projects, keep it up this is just amazing work. thank you again
My jaw hit the floor. This is the most stunning thing I have ever seen. Every aspect of this is miasma rising. You can not look away in fear that you will miss even one microscopic detail. Thank you.
Guys this is simply awsome! I can't imagine how hard was that to make but thanks. Not just sharing this video but the whole film and the hard work to recreate that historical event. Keep up the good work
My great grandfather survived the Battle of Stalingrad. He was shot in the foot and hid among dead bodies in the center of a courtyard. When he left Stalingrad to go back to germany, people would hang on the wings of airplanes when they took off because they were so desperate to get away from the battle. I think this depicted parts of the battle very well, good job.
When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all. (Futurama, I know, but it totally fits) That's what you guys did here. You made something so beautiful that no one will notice it. The best example, was the last break down. 7:03 Where you reconstructed the city. Yet you covered it up in smoke and cloud. It just shows how much love and effort went into making this the best product it could be. Well done Gentlemen (and Ladies) this is nothing short of perfect.
What you have created here is amazing. Made my jaw drop definitely. I wish I could produce effects like these. I hope all these positive comments encourage you post more awesome videos! :)
I'm at loss for words. The emotion shared in this jumble of clips was astonishing. Amazing work. I could only dream of working with someone like you guys.
As a really rookie video editor,i can't imagine the work you guys put in this. Simply great, amazing, stunning. I'm speechless. Keep it going, and i really want to watch this movie. Cheers from Argentina.
Now that is some amazing sh^t! I have been doing Photoshop and Illustrator for many years. I just recently got into After Effects and video copilot. for visual effect. You got a thumbs up and a new subscriber.
+Urban Deployment I'm working on photoshop right now. I have been told that Adobe After Effects is used for animation. So is this video used by Adobe After Effects? What kind of softwares are included in the making of this video?
I understood from what you said that someone needs to be really good at photoshop and illustrator to move to 3d stuff. I'm on the way anyway. thanks. :)
Wow seeing the process makes me giggle. Just shows how much work ti takes to make a movie or animation. And truly inspires me to become best of my self.
So horrible what our grand and great grand fathers did to each other. Hope this will never happen again. (Yes i'm aware we Germans were the aggressor) The Russian and German people like each other as far as i know.
The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively. - Bob Marley You guys have inspired me to push myself through hardship and failure to achieve a happiness in life that can only come from doing something that you truly love. I appreciate all that you do. Please! I beg of you, keep doing what you do, everything that you touch is gold.
This is exactly why the Digital Production VFX artist must be treated like gold! Without them, we cannot tell stories on the epic scale in which our imaginations are capable of. Excellent reel!
its already out, it sucks as i told ya....sorry...i waited for it alot too....but is awfull...have you ever seen "pearl harbour? the same stuff...good effects but the rest is crap :-)
This is litterally the best 3D and Compositing work I have seen in my entire life. I am only mad that have but one Thumbs Up to give. Seriously though, fantastic!!
Fantastic work, well done!!! However, from the reviews I've read of the actual movie it's a terrible embarrassing Hollywood style pastiche. What a waste of all that beautiful CGI :-(
worse than hollywood...its strange...its like...i dunno...i think its because russians have different concepts of love, sacrifice, courage, liking...i found many scenes creepy...like the love stories... and the war part...it sucks...just good effects...but you see the best scenes in the trailer...so you basically have already seen all that was worth
Problem is that the graphics engines in games (or rather the PCs theyre running on) usually cant handle this amount of detail, and even if, I cant imagine game devs putting this much effort into things, just shiny lens flares and HD textures all over the place, but dare you look too closely, you might see how thinly covered up the lack of effort is.
The technical aspect, yes, but I can't see big developer brands putting the necessary amount of effort into their games to get such graphics. I can already see BF5 being fine at first glance, but at the same time having thousands of tiny issues like weapons sticking into walls or objects or weird or unrealistic animations (like teleporting to knife someone) and obvious segments in destructible buildings (like BF3 now has) slowly destroying the flawless image the game was supposed to have.
all of that and more, is correct. and that too serves to show the internet, and, much more, the digital space, the cyber universe of sorts', nature, of being a giant organism. it evolves and changes with every byte. what seems state of the art nowadays, like the "next gen" consoles, will be outdated junk in 5-15 years time easy. in fact, 20 years from here,. using the sony PS as a "temporal ruler", we will probably see a gen 6, or even gen 7 or 8, taking the PS 1 as GEN-1, the PS 2 as GEN-2, likewise the PS 3 and 4. as for the errors you mention - i can think of several solutions to those errors in 5 minutes. of course, as my knowledge in the PC extends to using utorrent and applying simple mods to games, and nothing but that, i am no expert in game making; you could use an AI that can locate possible errors in the code for programmers, and for animations "teleporting" players for melee executions for example, you could have a certain "hitbox" in which the executioner activates both an FPS animation for the player himself, and a TPS animation (third person) for the random n00b watching an unaware MOFO gets wasted with a knife to the face. that animation will trigger with the execution and will walk the character from the point where the triggering was done, to the target, and the execute the target. as for guns sticking through walls, you could do what crysis did (though this is probably implemented in other games aside crysis) - have the character bring the gun parallel to the character's torso when it is detected that the gun collides with the wall. if said animation is visible in TPS as well as FPS, all is well in the world. correct me if you find faults in this, but i think companies, both game companies and programming companies in general, are not using the internet enough - the amount of decent programmers and even high end programmers out there is amazing - if you take into account that lets say, half the world is online - that's 3.5 billion people btw - and divide that by 10,000 , assuming only one of 10,000 is a decent level programmer, you still get a ridiculous number of skilled programmers. just think about all the game modes out there for games, or all the indie games done by some random Chinese dude in boo foo fucking china! of course, i could be ridiculously wrong here, but if you ask me, utilizing these people, and also taking into account that a decent number of them are gamers and know what gamers want, i believe game companies could level up their products immensely. but that's just my 50 cents.
I agree that some of that may be more or less possible to solve, the technical stuff isnt the issue, the issue is that games tend to be rushed towards release and stuff tends to be either overlooked or not considered important enough. Why make the extra effort of calculating walking animations for uneven ground when you could just take the animation for even ground all the time? Might look awkward if a foot submerges in solid rock, but thats not gonna break the game, is it? So stuff like that rarely ever gets fixed except for a few exceptions which turn out to be excellent games, like Crysis for example.
These effects are incredibly well done and I'm certain the people behind them will continue to make CGI an even more powerful tool for storytellers to harness in the future. Continue to excel at your craft!
8 years have passed still on of the best VFX breakdown showreel I have ever seen
I literally just told myself that 😂
Couldn't agree more.
10 years man, 10!!!
The best of the best!!!
it's 2023, and this is still my favorite VFX breakdown showreel
Check the crush scene of the alien ship in "Attraction" film
Simply incredible, just thinking about the talent, dedication and time spent to create something like this.
That is absolutely amazing!
I am amazed at some of the stuff that isn't actually real and is completely CGI. The woman in the car is amazing.
Jack McGinnigal
The woman in the car is most likely a recorded actor which is textured onto a basic 3D mesh.
Woah even jackfrags Commented lol
Its Really great.
wow fancy seeing you here jack
Made in russia
This is the best anti-var video ever. We should've kept these things for the visual effects forever, instead of recreating them in real...
THIS...THIS is how a behind the scenes VFX reel is supposed to be done.
This is the way VFX should be used. Mesmerizingly beautiful. Congratulations, Очень Хорошо!
This video has been selected by the channel as one of the best Visual Effects videos on RUclips and was added to the channel's playlist accordingly. Thanks for sharing.

THE MUSIC HITS SO PERFECTLY!!!!
Guys this is simply awsome! I can't imagine how hard was that to make but thanks. Not just sharing this video but the whole film and the hard work to recreate that historical event.
Keep up the good work
This was truly an incredible film to watch. Phenomenal work, keep it up:D
These are the best works i have seen for fluid simulations and shattering dynamics. Hands down the best reel..Keep up the work.
When a 2013 movie has better graphics than a 2019 movie
This is russian
This is the most amazing thing I've seen graphically in a very very long time! In awe going to watch it again!

Nice! Very nice, when Russian film visual effects of high level.
When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all. (Futurama, I know, but it totally fits) That's what you guys did here.
+José Yougou This is probably cinema 4d. Maybe some videocopilot.
I understood from what you said that someone needs to be really good at photoshop and illustrator to move to 3d stuff. I'm on the way anyway. thanks. :)
The fires, smokes, explosions, cloth simulations.. all kinds of particle effects are most likely made in "Houdini" and probably composited in "Nuke"
Absolutely amazing! Far more impressive than 99% of Hollywood special effects. Simply stunning video.
best 8 mins in youtube
The CGI effects on this short film are just amazing, its just incredible what can now be achieved with the latest technology.
That's one hellva video, such a tragic time in our world. So beautifully rendered.
Wow! Awesome!
It looks amazingly well done. Buy what's the deal with the jet engine transport flyover? I'm confused without a little more backstory.
Hehe. I did not even think of a storyline at all. Yes, I was that amazed by the fx! ;-P
Gotcha.
Wow.. I am speechless... The best VFX reel i have ever seen. Incredible.
Damn!!! That was so amazing!

Incredible work from some world class VFX artists.
I want to watch the movie just because of the vfx, why its not available in English? :(
Subs, my friend.
This has to be some of the most impressive visual effects I've seen in a long time.
By the time home computers can run environments like these I'll have something that can play crysis lol
10 years later. Do you have a computer that can run Crysis now? 🙂

+Stefan Ciganovic Have you seen the movie?

Stefan Ciganovic Sigh my bad. I hate English sometimes lol.
Brilliant!
Everything looked natural, laid well, blended good.
Nice work, can't wait to see the full length.
This is SICK !
This is exactly why the Digital Production VFX artist must be treated like gold! Without them, we cannot tell stories on the epic scale in which our imaginations are capable of. Excellent reel!
"Render time, many years..."
Should be in a movie. Absolutely stunning. I can't stop watching it.
Amazing. How did the 86th Academy Awards overlook this?!!
its russian and the US dont like anything the russian do.
not just that... it sucks...the scenes on the trailer are the only 2 good one
Johnny no this seems really good. I hope they release the movie soon
its already out, it sucks as i told ya....sorry...i waited for it alot too....but is awfull...have you ever seen "pearl harbour? the same stuff...good effects but the rest is crap :-)
Johnny yes. Saw that it was out but haven't watched it. I guess it doesn't help my case any by admitting I liked "Pearl Harbour"
This is litterally the best 3D and Compositing work I have seen in my entire life. I am only mad that have but one Thumbs Up to give. Seriously though, fantastic!!
Wowww Amazing
Wow! I wonder what kind of efforts went into this.
The FX breakdowns makes it so incredible!
So much epic.
wow....that was beautiful....this takes dedication to put out something so stunning
Fantastic work, well done!!!
However, from the reviews I've read of the actual movie it's a terrible embarrassing Hollywood style pastiche. What a waste of all that beautiful CGI :-(

I'm truly Amazed....
I Never thought I would see something like this in my life....
Is that Frostbite 4.0 I see?
This is possibly the most amazing thing I've seen in my entire life.
Its like a live action Red orchestra 2 Heroes of Stalingrad THE MOVIE
Absolutely phenomenal! Bravo!!!
wait... this is all cg?
Absolutely beautiful and technically flawless! Excellent job at showcasing the work, too!
you should be doing animations and graphics for COD & BF - you'd contribute greatly to them.
Problem is that the graphics engines in games (or rather the PCs theyre running on) usually cant handle this amount of detail, and even if, I cant imagine game devs putting this much effort into things, just shiny lens flares and HD textures all over the place, but dare you look too closely, you might see how thinly covered up the lack of effort is.
builder396 well there is always a future, maybe on PS5 or Xbox two

Can't tell if this is a video game, movie, or art. What ever it is, it's beautiful.
I can easily do this on Microsoft Paint

Lol sorry friend dared me to put that comment up sorry
Do it! And we laugh!
Absolutely amazing! THIS is why I say special effects are a true art-form.
