In the defense of Starlight not having a speaking role in the movie, the movie started production and writing halfway through season 5, so they didn't have a solid way of knowing how Starlight's arc would go in seasons 6 and 7 yet, so it would've been tough writing for her.
@@KTWhatsup Discord almost never appears when the world is ending, he's just in his own dimension and he purposefully doesn't step in. The only time he shows up during a crisis is the season 6 finale (and season 9 but that's because he caused the problem there). Having Discord in the movie would create an issue because he could've stopped the attack whenever he wanted, so he's better off not being there. Shining Armor is probably taking care of Flurry Heart in the Crystal Empire.
Dude I absolutely HATE how easily Celestia is so easily blindsided, it makes sense with discord, tirek, and Nightmare moon, but literally anyone else you need to give a good reason why they aren't one shoting the bad guy. Starlight was a great idea of this actually, she's a villain for twilight and never wants to go against Celestia, just mess with twilight. Btw I still think twilight was totally justified in stealing the pearl, she was basically the only one doing anything to further the "we have saved equestria" quest.
Nah, bro. Every step of the quest is everyone but Twilight remembering who they are. They help people who in turn help them. "Friends have friends who want to help out too." But Teilights cracking 7nder the pressure. Thinking she has to take the burden on herself and failing because of it. "It all comes down to me, I dont know if I'm ready for all the things they need me to be." The real problem is, this is something Twilight has already dealt with and didnt even struggle with. When told she had to do it on her own, she ultimate gave Tierk all the alicorn power because her friends were more important. In the context of the broader show, its nonsense. But as a self contained movie ... well, Twilight's definitely not justified.
I agree with you on everything but 2 things. Anthropomorphic design of characters in this movie makes them much more distinguishable from ponies, especially for viewers unfamiliar with the show. Furthermore, it serves to make the Mane 6 seem smaller, amplifying the feeling that they are literal little ponies astray in the world alien to them. There just wouldn't be the same effect, if all the new characters were of the race that ponies have already interacted with. Also, if Tempest was her own villain, it would take away from her uniqueness, making her more like Starlight. A better choice could be giving Storm King at least a little bit more screen-time, not cutting him out altogether.
The funny thing is, the only place where we got to see any of the other anthro characters was in the mlp gameloft mobile game (ok, idk if they showed up in any comics). Seriously, they actually did quite a lot with the anthro characters in kludetown, and they even showed what happened to them after the movie, however they did put the hippogriffs in kludgetown even though we know they stayed on mount arris, so the game isn't canon.
Here are some of the ideas of changes I thought would be better for the movie: -The monsters that work for Storm King should be all different kinds of animals that have been transformed into monsters by him. This could be referenced early on with either Fluttershy or the Princesses consulting Twilight but never fully explained or delved into the topic of missing animals and the monsters could change with what kind of animal is transformed. -Don't make Storm King a joke, have his helmet cover his eyes in a way that only the eye glow is seen and make him a menacing threat. If the characters in the movie can't take him seriously, not even the audience will. -Discord could end the movie in five minutes, so have him be turned to stone by the Storm King. We don't need to know how he did it but this will show that Storm King is a threat and to be dealt with and not just another villain of the week. -Change the Stone turning orbs into magical medallion's or just one medallion that can be used more easily and don't require super convoluted moves and risks to turn some one into stone. This can show how much trust the Storm King has for Tempest if there is only one of a kind medallion and he doesn't want to afford losing it. -Add the backstory of Tempest that she was a commander and at times a personal bodyguard of princess Celestia that was also missing long before twilight started her journey ,this will deepen her character as instead of hearing "Tempest is it?" (which I don't know how she didn't hear that as a megaphone was used) into a better line and maybe show reluctance for Tempest for helping Storm King all of this. -Have Princesses and their guards be competent in fighting instead of being just one shot, im pretty sure everyone wanted to see what the princesses were capable of. But if we were expanding more on their abilities, having Luna make the monsters around her fall asleep to the point that she doesn't need to use other magic like turning into a shadow to move around unharmed to the point she pushes one of the monsters that was charging at her only to slow down and fall asleep as she pushed him back with little effort. Cadence can create crystals with her magic and Celestia would blind the monsters or just toss them around with magic. -Don't have main 6 be tired in the desert sequence, they have been trough worse and harsher conditions than that and were fine. Have Twilight explain on what she knows of Tempest as an exposition. -As the main 6 were going back for Twilight, have dozens of statues of petrified pony guards to show what Storm King has done. -Add a really big and spectacular underwater city for hippogriff's and make it a final goal for the Storm King's conquest. The hippogriff's should also be strong with magic, being dubbed the rulers of skies and sea or something like that. I imagine that their magic with water would dispel the petrification and transformation, so imagine a tide coming to Equestria that would carry reinforcement for the main 6 but the tide doesn't destroy anything other than Storm Kings magic. These are some of the changes that I think would make the movie way better,I hope you like it whoever is reading this. Adding this comment not to spam, but just in case as YT tends to delete any comments so just in case.
I don't really have an opinion on whether or not SK uses beasts he controls or soldiers he has either works imo. Actually id argue Discord is the one character where we actually would want to see how he was taken care of. Making Tempest into an ex body guard while interesting is just too different imo, in a way it basically just makes her into another Sunset Shimmer. I think her normal backstory works as is. I can maybe see the argument that AJ, Dash, and Pinkie would not being tired but the other 3 and Spike make perfect sense I didn't mind Celly, Luna, Cadence being taken out through dirty tactics to show that Tempest can't actually take them on in a direct fight although yeah it would have been nice to at least see them do something.
@@billyboleson2830 I have never seen it explained in show but I know SK has them in the comics too,I don't plan on checking fully on what they are but my point is that it would have been better if by having all different animals transformed he would have similar beast/soldiers but in different forms to add to variety other than copy pasted brute. As for Discord, yes but also no. World is always better with a little bit of mystery, and having a major character like him shown how he was turned to stone could end up ruining a character for fans either way it's done so keeping it vague would be beneficial to the story. I don't know enough about Sunset Shimmer since I avoid Equestria girls as it doesn't interest me really. Counterpoint on tirelessness, Spike did go across mountains and deserts without stopping in one episode just casually walking so spike is out of the picture when it comes to that. I don't have a problem with that exactly, it's the fact they won't really get another chance to show what they are capable of and the fact that this was possibly a first impression for many fans and it is horrible for just being one shot like that,if you ask me.
I love this movie, but I also absolutely agree with everything you've said, and I also liked your rewrite to the story. I would also like to point out another flaw though. The very little use of Sia. I feel like they could've used her more, but I kinda understand because she was voiced by a celebrity, and that could cost a lot. Another alternative could be that they use someone like Countess Coluratura (correct me on spelling) or Sapphire Shores instead of Sia. Then, we could see the interactions between Countess Coloratura and Apple Jack or also Sapphire Shores and Rarity.
It’s funny because legit last night, I showed the movie to one of my online friends who wasn’t into MLP, and he really enjoyed it and that it got him emotional. He also stated it was the best way to get into the show for him when he starts watching G4 soon. He watched the G5 film and liked it, but it didn’t hit him as hard as this film did. He’s not going to be a full on brony, just a casual viewer, he said, so yeah it was epic. But yeah I’m not surprised this film is heavy mixed with the fandom, when I first saw this on DVD years ago though, it got me right back into MLP for the first time since Equestria Girls. To me it was a good film, also Princess Skystar….OMG what can I say about her, no one did it better than Kristin Chenoweth, and the rest of the cast was great as well. When the G5 film came around, I kinda had the same feeling I did with this film in a way, very fun and a good way to start the “new generation” no pun intended lol. And the fact it’s connected to G4 makes it even more interesting in my opinion as well, oh yeah R.I.P G5, you’ll be missed by….most of us fans anyway. Sorry I’m not saying much on your version of the movie, but I do find it interesting when fans do their own take on something, regardless if the already existing material is good or bad. All I’ll say is and I’ve said it before elsewhere, I’m glad you’re at least nothing like a fan who would just attack the viewers for having a different opinion.
Storm King is a bad rehash of Lord Tirek (who was actually successful in his villain plot). Personally what i would change is have Tempest turn evil because she befriended non-ponies which in turn made Equestrian ponies discriminate against her. Twilight meanwhile has to unlearn her own belief that everyone outside of Equestria is either untrustworthy or can't afford to help any outsiders (Queen Novo and Capper both enforce this misbelief but Twilight realizes that friendship still has power outside of Equestria). This way Twilight and Tempest would go on similar arcs. I'd also have Tempest steal or corrupt the Elements of Harmony or not have the Mane 6 rely on them anymore post-s4 (because they use the Elements against Stygian in s7, it's safe to assume that they could've done so against the Storm king, but they didn't because plot).
I remember being so excited for it, only know I can see why it kind of a mixed movie with the characters being like out of character. Also it should’ve maybe been during an early season or something or maybe had a subplot with Starlight since she became a main character in the show
4:20 First of all, just an immediate correction. Yes, the princesses being taken out of the picture with ease is a very tired trope of this show. Especially since there was no justification for it, other than for narrative reasons. But you forget that this was not the Storm King's doing; that was Tempest, albeit with the Storm King's weapons...? It's never explained. But as for my own issues with your rewrite, while I personally would have preferred Tempest to be the sole villain, the way you wrote her makes her redemption completely unearned. How earned it was in the original movie is very debatable, but at least there, it was clear that she made a mistake in trusting the Storm King (To which the Prequel comics revealed that he in did, in fact, dupe her into thinking she'd get her horn back, in exchange for her telling him about Equestria and its magic.). I mean, reformations in My Little Pony are pretty iffy in general (Starlight and Sunset may have eventually redeemed themselves, but they sure as hell didn't deserve their reformations. And don't even get me started on Discord.), but if Tempest is still to be reformed in your rewrite, you absolutely *have* to change her backstory. Again, reminder: Putting the Prequel comics aside, Tempest became who she was because she got her horn torn off, and from her perspective, she thought everyone thought she was a freak and abandoned her for her now-messed-up magic. In her words, "The best way to survive is all alone." But this does not imply, "I'm going to take out my fury on the world, and cause derision wherever I go." Sure, it could if you look at it through the line of, "If you depend on others, you'll never find your place." But does this imply turning people against one another, and purposefully sabotaging them? I think not. Not that your rewrite is bad on principle, but it's this inherent flaw that breaks it all the same. And maybe it's because I have not watched the whole show to judge whether the film version of Twilight is in line with her show counterpart up to Season 7 -- alongside the rest of the Mane Six, for that matter -- but I did not have much of a problem with Twilight's actions. I think it's worth paying attention to the actions of the other characters at this point, and why her patience would have dwindled to the point of not trusting the Hippogryphs to provide the pearl on their own terms. I'm not saying this is in line with her character at this point of the show, I'm just saying it makes sense from the narrative we got in the film itself.
Finally I’ve found someone who I agree with on topic of My Little Pony: The Movie. To quote T&F RUclipsr The Unlucky Tug, «It tries to do way too much, while at the same time it does nothing». Your alternate take on the film is far from perfect, but it’s definitely an improvement. It isn’t completely unlike my own take. Good one, Glimmer Times.
4:25 I feel the need to bring up the fact that neither the show nor the comics treat Celestia like a god. Yes, she moves the sun but in the past that was done by 5 strong unicorns and Star Swirl working together so she's somewhere around 6 times more powerful than the strongest of unicorns. She's not godlike for moving the sun because that's not a godly feat in this setting. I'd compare her to Galadriel from the Lord of the Rings, she is long lived, powerful, and wise but not quite a god.
I think a big problem with the movie is that it also feels like a movie that came WAY too late to mean anything. all the movie outings had been spent up to that point on equestria girls the human high school AU during which the show progressed and it felt like despite Twilight keeping her wings and crown most of the character growth and development had been dropped the real bonds and trust between the girls reset to more early season levels considering how quick Twilight concluded that in her desperation that they are so screwed and she can't actually rely on them. it felt like an early season film released at a point where the fever pitch for pony paraphernalia was dwindling instead of riding and feeding the wave
Let's be real for a moment, starlight and discord didnt show up because if they did, the movie would last like 5 minutes, and there is no way to take discord out without taking fluttershy out, unless they want to make him a traitor like he usually is, and tbh i dont think twilight was out of character, she was desperate, look at the way she was acting at the end of season 9 , she gave up, if stealing something would have help her im pretty sure she would take it without hesitation
And what reason would there be then for why Celestia, Luna, and Cadance don't go with the Mane 6 to help them? Besides, if Celestia, Luna, and Cadance didn't get defeated, what would stop them from being kinda boring to watch since any time they're in a fight, there would be zero challenges if they won every single fight? Like, what struggle would they go through in a fight if they won all the time?
@@GlimmerTimes So, then why wouldn't the Mane 6 try to contact them about Tempest after they did find out about her threat? Spike's dragon fire messaging could've warned the princesses for back up.
I sort of feel similar to that in why I hate the Hey Arnold Movie. Not only is it so BORING, but Phoebe Heyerdahl (of whom I consider a main character) barely has any screen time. She only got ONE line of dialogue! There better have been a good reason for that.
One problem I have with this movie is the lack of redemption arc of Queen Novo. It just makes no sense to me that Queen Novo wasn’t even aware or involved in the Storm King and Tempest Shadow’s attack in the first few minutes of the movie just like as she used to in the MLP: The Movie comic prequels, like she just only flew to Equestria to see her daughter whom she turned her back against her. What also doesn’t make sense is that they ‘apologized to each other off-screen’ and it kind of just puts me off why they didn’t show it. And in that defense, I wrote a dialogue-script based scene where Princess Skystar has a realistic mother-and-daughter argument with Queen Novo after she banishes the Mane 6 from Seaquestria and she runs away and uses the pearl to transform back into a Hippogriff and go beneath the surface to help the Mane 6, Queen Novo realizes her mistake and decides to announce the whole nation of Seaquestria to prepare and train for the fight against Storm King’s army and grows uneasy about the feeling that her daughter out there might be attacked through the hands of Storm King as she doesn’t want to be reminded of what happened to her late husband and doesn’t want her daughter to experience the same fate as him. We also don’t know who he is and what happened to him, whether we can imagine if he is Queen Novo’s ex-husband, separated from Queen Novo, or is dead or that if you can put it in simple terms, Queen Novo became a widow. Queen Novo would’ve apologized to Twilight mid-fight and the movie would made all sense to us now, but, despite Queen Novo’s flaws, she’s a good character and one of my favorites and she would’ve have a proper dynamic with Twilight and the rest of the Mane 6. The movie is entirely nuanced and I’d love to see it being entirely rewritten if the writers weren’t in a rush.
Really like how the Mane 6 all have a role in the movie in the rewrite, the original movie felt quite unbalanced in which characters got their time to shine.
Im probably the only dude willing to bat for Storm King. SK isn't a fighter, hes a manipulator the fact that hes nothing without the princesses power is kinda the point. He has basically the rest of the world not called Equestria under his control through lying and using people and we actually get some screen time of him doing stuff which already puts above some other villains like Sombra. Don't get me wrong hes not a great villain but I don't see what makes him so much worse then other villains that the fanbase hypes up. The fact that Spike does more then Fluttershy and AJ is kinda whack though
Well I got interesting news for you,Sean reviews is a critical person and he made a positive review of this film on why he liked it,I recommend you check out this video.
This movie could have been so much more, honestly a letdown. It sounds crazy, all four EQG movies are better. I personally belive ANG was a better movie, even if G5 ended up being a dumpster fire. Rainbow Rocks and Friendship Games are still the gold standard for MLP movies.
Now, I agree that ANG has a better plot-structure and utilizes its main cast in a good way, but in a in a broader perspective both films have an overall quality of any other run-of-the-mill kids movie. Despite that, one big aspect in which 2017 movie surpasses ANG as well as EQG stuff, is, oddly enough, being a FIM movie. Yeah, it sounds obvious, but what i mean is: the the MLP movie is awesome not just in its animation but in its style too. It feels the most Disney-esque with some of the songs, it leans into the Warcraft-like aesthetic, mixing steampunk with high-fantasy. Compared to it, EQG and G5 have their own, arguably less unique and more sanitized, poppy styles, with only glimpses of those primordial forces of FIM.
Learning about not only the production history of the movie, but the two seasons that surrounded it, looks like it was set up for failure. I did my own rewrite (shameless self promotion) and I kind of wonder how either of our iterations could change the following two seasons
Doesn't matter to me that Discord wasn't there, since he is pretty op and doesn't appear that often in the show given he lives in another dimension. He was probably just not aware of the situation. It does matter that Flurry Heart wasn't there though, because Starlight and Trixie are seen together during a song meaning this was after Flurry's birth. It wouldn't change anything about the plot for her to exist other than her just being acknowledged and captured, so why not?
I admittedly forgot about Flurry Heart but that is really weird that we don’t see her! Maybe Sunburst was babysitting her in the Crystal empire? But Cadence and Shining Armor seem like the type of parents to bring her to this event
At least this movie made a good excuse for having 2D animation back in theaters again (even if it's nowhere near as good as anything from Disney, Studio Ghibli and Cartoon Saloon in terms of storytelling).
The only thing I like about this movie besides the animation is the super sympathetic secondary villain Tempest which was needed being the storm king is a one dimensional Tirek knock off.My biggest problem with it is how they presented the best characters, It's despicable how they basically raped the main characters personality; but to give them the benefit of the doubt I don't think they understood how much the characters meant to fans when they made Twilight a dumb lying thief and Rainbow dash into a worshiper of theft and rape she became when she sang a song about piracy being awesome, My girlfriend is the one whom introduced me to the show; she is a lot like and reminds me of Twilight in that she is very smart, yet mentally ill compulsive, Rainbow Dash is her favorite character, by making Twilight stupid just so they can advertise Hasbro's toy/game hungry hungry hippos , is insulting to anyone who relates to that character like because they remind them of a loved one like with me. I know for a fact my girl doesn't like and felt betrayed by how they treated her favorite character.
My Little Pony: The Movie wasn't bad per se. It just has pacing issues; it felt twice as long as it actually is. Tempest Shadow, voiced by Emily Blunt, is the best character in the film and steals every scene she's in. I do like the redesigned art style better than the animation in Friendship Is Magic, though.
Good video, but pretty bad ideas (in my opinion). I don’t see why some characters being anthro is bad. Weird, but not bad. And it doesn't really matter how powerful the princesses are if they aren’t equally durable or protected. That isn’t necessarily bad scaling.
I agree with this, I haven't watched mlp the movie in a while manly because I really didn't like when twilight had a fight with her friends and I wish discord, starligt, Sunburst, and other important characters where in there more too.
In my opinion, the Queen of the hippo- misunderstanding is really wrong. Idc if there were plot holes, i still love your reimagination of the movie 💙 I love that you love Starlight.
I think some would disagree with you on that. I, myself, have seen this one a handful of times. When I watched A New Generation for the first time on Netflix, I liked it okay. But when I watched it the second time, around halfway through it, I don't really know why/what it was, but I didn't like it as much. Haven't watched it again since. Not as a whole, anyway. I still listen to the songs, most of them. Fit Right In more than most.
I don’t blame you for being upset. I didn’t think this movie was that memorable, especially compared to the show, or even the MLP movie after this one.
I have some ideas since I espise the movie for its terribly done story, gonna leave this comment to do it later since it will be a long one and idk if anyone will read it.

Along with the arguing for season 8 and the movie it just annoying too me Gus’s it like or it me evil pinkie and then let’s yell at twlight pinkie says Gus’s you sent us to be the distracting maybe you better be off without me it like starlight should be in there more
If Celestia gets defeated i want it to be epic. Not her getting bamboozled with some dumb tricks. The only time I could actually believe she was defeated fairly is in Crysalis episode, where she had access to Shining Armor's love to Cadence, which powers her
Okay so looks like everyone has their own opinions right and here's mine so yes I too absolutely agree with what this video is saying and also I would have liked it a lot if Princess celestia princess luna princess cadence and the great and powerful Trixie had much more screen time plus as of for world building okay I'll admit that I am heavily obsessed with dragons sooo we could somehow have seen newer fresher undiscovered dragon lands I mean it would be cool if the new types of dragons they were to discover would somehow possess their own kind of magic doing more greater things so magic and fiery breath okay so I am not the best at writing stories but if I could I would say in the story the dragons would have say strong principles and twilight would learn them and say spike too could have learnt something new but there needs to be a purpose for them to learn and meet new characters so like I said I am not the best at writing stories but maybe Fluttershy could have come up with a few quotes something for the audience to enjoy and be on the edge of their seats and since applejack is an earth pony then what if she was really good about knowing when a natural earth related disaster would happen and know exactly what to do to avoid such problematic events and well that's all I got so far thanks for reading my comment.
She was not out of character to steal the pearl ppl really need to let go of this stupid idea. What she did was a desperation move to save her ppl...ponies. novo told them to F off had she not told the rest to distract her and tried to steal the pearl pinkie would have not made friends and they would have just left them and gone back up to the surface. Jeez is tha really so hard to grasp?
If this were the case then in the first Equestria girls movie she would’ve just stolen the crown from Principal Celestia and ran. But her strength comes from empathizing with others to solve problems, which she didn’t do here
If twilight had no intention to steal the pearl, not to say her heart wasn’t in the right place but still doesn’t make it ok, then after the (one small thing) song number. Novo probably would’ve loaned the pearl to them. If that’s what she was hinting at when she said “Perhaps there’s one small thing we can do.”
@@DaylightTwinkleyea the whole point was Twilight makes a mistake. The whole time she's believed in the power of friendship, but time and time again they established they're outside of Equestria and Twilight gets her philosophy questioned if it works outside of home. The point of the scene is they could've gotten what they wanted _if_ Twilight held true to her beliefs. But she faltered believing the outward thoughts. That's why when Tempest kidnaps her after the fallout, Twilight says "I failed friendship".
@@amandaslough125You nailed it on the head. The song at the beginning, “We Got This Together,” is setting up that theme. Twi and her friends have made friends with non-Equestrian creatures before. But in her stress (and a desire to introduce the friendship theme to a larger audience and get more people to watch the show), Twi doubts that and believes she would be better off doing everything herself and not make new friends.
The main thing imo that make this more grand than an episode is the scale of the world. They still travel outside of Equestria and are chased around the world, I just edited plot points so it fits better into canon. But I understand your perspective
Oh God I have something embarrassing to tell you. I accidentally liked this movie when I was a teenager. Yes, you heard me right. I mean, don't get me wrong. I have no knowledge with My Little Pony. Like I don't wanna like make fun of it. I do not wanna like be the guy who makes fun of My Little Pony. I know nothing about it. I never watched it because it's for girls. Well, it can be for some people who used to love it. But yeah, I remember watching this, but as a teenager I remember like he did, I don't know why though I mean it was fine. The colors were in the movie. We're good. The villain was silly. Though, but still, I thought the villain was fine. I guess but I haven't watched this movie in a long long time and honestly I mean, at least I watched it. I mean, do you want me to watch it again?Let me know
I think I understand why they kept Starlight and Discord out of the movie. They already couldn’t find enough time to do anything with Fluttershy and Applejack, and Starlight and Discord may be important in the show overall, but frankly they’re not as iconic and central to MLP’s toy-centric brand image as the princesses. But the reason why they should have been in this movie and weren’t is something you kind of alluded to but did not elaborate: In order for the plot to work, Equestria needs to be out of options. There needs to be some reason why Celestia turns to ask for help from an isolationist queen we’ve never heard of before. So, the Elements of Harmony, Discord, Starlight, and Equestria’s allies all need to be removed from the picture somehow like what happened in the S6 premiere. Not only did the movie fail to remove these options, but the Mane 6 went on a big quest and came back with nothing they didn’t have at the start. They won using a Trojan cake and a band of pirates, but they easily could have gone to Ponyville (a location the movie thoroughly ignores) and pulled off a similar stunt with the Cakes, Big Mac, and a few other tough ponies that could handle themselves in a fight. Yes, they made new friends along the way, but those friends immediately disappear afterwards, so the whole quest was rather pointless.
A huge problem with it is how out of character my gal Twilight went. She tried to steal the pearl, then says she’d be better off alone (she knows dang well she wouldn’t be)
chat gpt: Yes, the 2017 My Little Pony: The Movie movie began development well before its release, and even before Friendship is Magic Season 5 aired. Development Timeline: 2014: It was officially announced that Hasbro was working on a My Little Pony movie. This coincided with the broadcast of Season 4 of the series, and planning likely began during that time or before. 2015: Season 5 aired from April to November 2015. During this period, writer Meghan McCarthy, who was the main writer for the series, had already been hired to write the film's script. This means that the film's story began to unfold when Season 5 was underway. and it took till 2017 to be released and considered canon to season 8. so like to see the movie as a paralel universe or something
What's sad about My Little Pony 2017 G4 not only there are better Magical Fantasy Animated Movies Such as classic 2D Disney Films, but also BETTER Theatrical Animated Movies based on TV shows With Stronger stories and better Stakes, pacing and Humor such as The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004) The Simpsons Movie (2007) South Park: Bigger Longer Uncut (1999) The Peanuts Movie (2015) and even The Bob's Burgers Movie (2022).
First of all, the movie came out close to 7 years ago, not 10 like you said in the description. Secondly, the intent for the movie was not to lead to the making of he Friendship School. The movie was in the making for years before it came out. The intent was to expand the world (and to sell toys, but that's what all of MLP is for, a glorified toy commercial). This also means that the Friendship School would've happened with or without the movie. The only race from the movies that continued was the Hippogriffs. And the show had plenty of races it could've taken from if the Hippogriffs weren't introduced. And if the intent was to lead to the creation of the Friendship School, it wouldn't taken more races than just the Hippogriffs. Thirdly, Capper is from a race that is a reference to G1. Your question of why he's an anthropamorphic cat also applies to Diamond Dogs. It also applies to why in Disney, Goofy is an anthro dog while Pluto is just a normal dog. Anthro characters are literally part of the MLP lore. Diamond Dogs, Minotaurs, Abyssinians (Capper's race), several of the Dragons, the Parrots, and every other race in MLP. That's right. Anthro is a broader term than you think. Anthro simply means to take non-human animals and give them human-like characteristics. The Ponies live in towns and have human-like lives and talk. They go to school, run businesses, play, wear diapers when they're babies... Making an animal bipedal is just one way to make Anthro. But something that every single race in the MLP universe shares is the fact that they are not humanoid. Even Tirek, who originally had a human-like face in G1, was given a more animalistic face in G4. Your point about the Storm King is valid. He is more goofy than indimidating. But so is Discord. What matters is whether they can follow through. And the Storm King did. In fact, many MLP villains find a ballance between indimidating and silly. The only real reason why Tempest stole the show was because of the performance of the voice actor. She also had more screen time, which technically gave her the chance to chew the scenery. She was the Darth Vador to Empiror Palpatine, or the Joker to Ra's al Ghul, or Megatron to Unicron. I know I'm not the only one to point this out. But Starlight not having a speaking role is the result of starting production a few years before it released. The only reason why Starlight and Trixie are in it at all are as later additions. As for Discord...well...he's Discord. He does his own thing. That and being completely OP, he'd likely end the movie before it had a chance to begin. Either that, or perhaps he was turned to stone by one of those orbs. Besides, the movie isn't about him, or Starlight. There are also a lot of deleted scenes and unused ideas. But asside from that, you pointed out that Fluttershy said "yay" once, but disregard the scene that makes her the MVP in my book. And that was when she gave one of the Yetis a theropy session. What better way to include Fluttershy in something like this than that? I could agree with rewriting the Storm King. But not removing him entirely. Removing him doesn't just remove the meaning of her reformation at the end, but it would also remove her motivation to be a villain in the first place. There would literally be no movie without the Storm King. I'm impressed. You managed to rewrite the movie into nothing more than a feature length episode. You turned Tempest into a generic villain by removing the Storm King. You removed the strain put on their friendships, which takes away the point of the movie, and that's that even though friends may fight, what makes them friends is that they will still support each other. It takes away the very reason WHY Twilight acted the way she did, which by the way was NOT out of character...or at least no more out of character than literally anyone in the real world that exists would be when pushed to their breaking point. I'll grant that your rewrite would've made a damn good episode. But the writers weren't trying ot make an episode, they were trying to make a movie. Your rewrite would be better fitting as an arc in the comics in my opinion. A good one. But there's a reason why it's easier to make TV shows than movies.
In the defense of Starlight not having a speaking role in the movie, the movie started production and writing halfway through season 5, so they didn't have a solid way of knowing how Starlight's arc would go in seasons 6 and 7 yet, so it would've been tough writing for her.
Probably same reason Flurry Heart is not mentioned. Still doesn't excuse Shining Armor or Discord.
@@grace19005 The problem with that though is well.... Fluttershy exists lol.
"It all comes down to me, I dont know if I'm ready for all the things they need me to be."
The real problem is, this is something Twilight has already dealt with and didnt even struggle with. When told she had to do it on her own, she ultimate gave Tierk all the alicorn power because her friends were more important. In the context of the broader show, its nonsense. But as a self contained movie ... well, Twilight's definitely not justified.
I really think they should let Discord in the movie, giving him a few lines and that be good. One of the best characters in any show
The problem is he would have solved the conflict in two seconds.
Lionsgate & Paramount Pictures
Seriously, they actually did quite a lot with the anthro characters in kludetown, and they even showed what happened to them after the movie, however they did put the hippogriffs in kludgetown even though we know they stayed on mount arris, so the game isn't canon.
sigma spotted
They did show up in the comics and played a sort of “major” role in season 10
@MoonlightLunaticz Cool. I don't read the comics so I wouldn't know.
@ego-lay_atman-bay Yea the Season 10 comics cover a few leftover concepts not otherwise explored. Like Zecora's homeland.
@amandaslough125 so you're saying I should read the comics
Here are some of the ideas of changes I thought would be better for the movie:
-The monsters that work for Storm King should be all different kinds of animals that have been transformed into monsters by him.
I can maybe see the argument that AJ, Dash, and Pinkie would not being tired but the other 3 and Spike make perfect sense
I didn't mind Celly, Luna, Cadence being taken out through dirty tactics to show that Tempest can't actually take them on in a direct fight although yeah it would have been nice to at least see them do something.
I never thought this movie was bad but kinda out of place and the main 6 just felt off in my opinion
Lionsgate & Paramount Pictures
Storm King is more of a Sombra 2.0 then a Tirek. I like the idea though that hes more of a manipulator rather then a fighter
This movie was made to sell toys is the easiest way to say:
"MLP is just Toy Story"
So does the movie confirms Humans dont exist in the Pony world outside of EQG and why we never got Megan ?
Megan is too powerful for g4. She one shot everyone
@Christian-gr3gu isnt Megan the token human of the francise like Christopher Robin ?
And her siblings Molly and Danny.
@@nicholassims9837 Honestly I was always under the impression that humans wwere never a thing in the pony world
The only thing I was left with after this movie is Open up your eyes. Tempest's va is a great singer
For being beyond equestria we don’t really get darker and girder things the concept artist wanted
I both like the original and the rewrite but I agree with the points made. And sometimes I wish characters introduced make a return too.
I’m glad you enjoyed!
@ You’re welcome. 😉
Finally someone who doesn't treat her as a God, because moving the sun doesn't make one godly enough
I did wish we had more characters in the Movie plot.
In this version they’d send just the Mane 6 to Mount Aris because nopony would know the severity: they think it’s just a normal errand
The movie is entirely nuanced and I’d love to see it being entirely rewritten if the writers weren’t in a rush.
sia really went cya for the rest of the movie
And it has no Starlight. That’s the main problem, Glimmer.
Really like how the Mane 6 all have a role in the movie in the rewrite, the original movie felt quite unbalanced in which characters got their time to shine.
Equestria Girls>MLP Movie🔥
AGREED
G5 movie > G4 movie
Im probably the only dude willing to bat for Storm King. SK isn't a fighter, hes a manipulator the fact that hes nothing without the princesses power is kinda the point. He has basically the rest of the world not called Equestria under his control through lying and using people and we actually get some screen time of him doing stuff which already puts above some other villains like Sombra. Don't get me wrong hes not a great villain but I don't see what makes him so much worse then other villains that the fanbase hypes up. The fact that Spike does more then Fluttershy and AJ is kinda whack though
Bro the stardew valley music 😭😭😭💖
Looking forward to your future content and inevitable growth!
This made my day :)
@GlimmerTimes /) Keep at it pony bro.
I don't know about them going on an adventure just to save their party... but overall I like the rewrite
It is absolutely so refreshing to see you and others in the MLP fanbase have the same gripes I did with this movie. Well done!
Well I got interesting news for you,Sean reviews is a critical person and he made a positive review of this film on why he liked it,I recommend you check out this video.
Thank you for the kind words :)
This movie could have been so much more, honestly a letdown. It sounds crazy, all four EQG movies are better. I personally belive ANG was a better movie, even if G5 ended up being a dumpster fire. Rainbow Rocks and Friendship Games are still the gold standard for MLP movies.
I’ll take ANG over this movie any day. Though I agree, Equestria Girls really perfected how to do a movie with these characters!
I haven't watched the video yet, but I'm preemptively subscribing for Glimmer Times haha
Thanks so much!
Hasbro should've hired you as their writter, I really like your version of the film ❤
Thanks so much!
Man seeing this Movie like for a while but a view people hated too
It’s also a shame that the movie has a minor character based on Sia
Learning about not only the production history of the movie, but the two seasons that surrounded it, looks like it was set up for failure.
I did my own rewrite (shameless self promotion) and I kind of wonder how either of our iterations could change the following two seasons
I’ll have to check yours out if I get a chance!
Of course you’ll say Starlight should speak when your entire channel is themed around her
I plead the fifth
Guilty as charged, I'd say 😭
Celestia loses to disabled unicorn
At least this movie made a good excuse for having 2D animation back in theaters again (even if it's nowhere near as good as anything from Disney, Studio Ghibli and Cartoon Saloon in terms of storytelling).
The movie was stunning!
@@GlimmerTimes That it was.
As a Starlight fan, I liked everything about it except Starlight was included in the movie for only several seconds in the ending credits 😢

The movie wasn't bad at all but SpongeBob and The Wild Thornberries did a better job at adapting their shows into movies than MLP did
The only thing I like about this movie besides the animation is the super sympathetic secondary villain Tempest which was needed being the storm king is a one dimensional Tirek knock off.My biggest problem with it is how they presented the best characters, It's despicable how they basically raped the main characters personality; but to give them the benefit of the doubt I don't think they understood how much the characters meant to fans when they made Twilight a dumb lying thief and Rainbow dash into a worshiper of theft and rape she became when she sang a song about piracy being awesome, My girlfriend is the one whom introduced me to the show; she is a lot like and reminds me of Twilight in that she is very smart, yet mentally ill compulsive, Rainbow Dash is her favorite character, by making Twilight stupid just so they can advertise Hasbro's toy/game hungry hungry hippos , is insulting to anyone who relates to that character like because they remind them of a loved one like with me. I know for a fact my girl doesn't like and felt betrayed by how they treated her favorite character.
Let me guess Starlight wasn't in it
My Little Pony: The Movie wasn't bad per se. It just has pacing issues; it felt twice as long as it actually is. Tempest Shadow, voiced by Emily Blunt, is the best character in the film and steals every scene she's in. I do like the redesigned art style better than the animation in Friendship Is Magic, though.
Lionsgate & Paramount Pictures
Why didnt Clopper appear outside of cameos in later episodes ?
Subscribed for Starlight Glimmer 😌
Good video, but pretty bad ideas (in my opinion). I don’t see why some characters being anthro is bad. Weird, but not bad. And it doesn't really matter how powerful the princesses are if they aren’t equally durable or protected. That isn’t necessarily bad scaling.
I agree with this, I haven't watched mlp the movie in a while manly because I really didn't like when twilight had a fight with her friends and I wish discord, starligt, Sunburst, and other important characters where in there more too.

9:36: I like your version a bit better then the original film we got
When i watched it in the cinemas i enjoyed it but you make a lot of good points.
Anything with not enough Starlight is a 0/10 in my books. Jokes aside, A New Generation is a far better film than the 2017 movie by miles.
No no. You got a point 🧐
I honestly liked both the official and your re-write, but I can understand why you don't like the official version.
I guess they needed to add a second act low point
I don’t blame you for being upset. I didn’t think this movie was that memorable, especially compared to the show, or even the MLP movie after this one.
Honestly the movie was bad, and Starlight as a background pony is fine for me
Lionsgate & Paramount Pictures
I have some ideas since I espise the movie for its terribly done story, gonna leave this comment to do it later since it will be a long one and idk if anyone will read it.
Well I got news for you bro, there’s a critical person name Sean reviews and he made a positive review on this film on why he liked it, I recommend you check out his video
Here are some of the ideas of changes I thought would be better for the movie:
-The monsters that work for Storm King should be all different kinds of animals that have been transformed into monsters by him.
It's just a movie with a very messy and weak story. Apparently, it does share a few problems with the 1986 My Little Pony movie.
Well I got interesting news for you, there’s a critical person name Sean reviews, and he made a positive review on why he like this film, I recommend you check out his video.
Ok but that furry was really hot
❤❤❤😀😀😀
There's another My Little Pony movie It's about rainbows I'm not joking💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
My biggest problem woth the movie is the storm king. He was never funny or menacing and he was literally tirek but no awsome anime battle
@@amandaslough125You’re not wrong.
I thought you said you didn't want to be another episode...
Yet you remake it as another episode
What’s your thoughts on the concept art of this move? ruclips.net/video/ODaDvkUWlgk/видео.htmlsi=9A5hkVCOmC2S1PNe
I love this movie I wish this movie had Starlight take a part in it
A huge problem with it is how out of character my gal Twilight went. She tried to steal the pearl, then says she’d be better off alone (she knows dang well she wouldn’t be)
Well you can just rewrite the movie if you hav a problem with it.
❤
chat gpt:
Yes, the 2017 My Little Pony: The Movie movie began development well before its release, and even before Friendship is Magic Season 5 aired.
Development Timeline:
2014: It was officially announced that Hasbro was working on a My Little Pony movie. This coincided with the broadcast of Season 4 of the series, and planning likely began during that time or before.
2015: Season 5 aired from April to November 2015. During this period, writer Meghan McCarthy, who was the main writer for the series, had already been hired to write the film's script. This means that the film's story began to unfold when Season 5 was underway.
and it took till 2017 to be released and considered canon to season 8. so like to see the movie as a paralel universe or something
god you people are helpless, can't even research or think for yourselves anymore lmao
Why doesn't Celestia want any daughters?
She's only good at raising suns.
You're a 30 year old man, stop
