Basically, we wanted to perform Russian Christmas Music. That's where the show started. The Props came next as a representation of Russian Nesting Dolls. The cubes then led us to the artwork of Piet Mondrian who used lines and cubes in his artwork. We used the elements of the nesting cubes and Mondrian's art to create a visual representation of the music. There really is no story line or theme. It's just using those ideas as we put music in motion! We hope you saw what you were hearing. That is always a goal of ours!
Hey hey Avon guard member here! The boxes are supposed to replicate Russian nesting dolls as they get smaller and the costumes and colors represent the Mondrian painting. The nesting doll idea came from the fact we were playing Russian Christmas music! (I hoped this help a little bit)
loved your thoughts on our kids show this year. I am a proud parent of a sophomore trumpet player. as other have commented we performed russian christmas music and the boxes are nesting dolls and the uniforms and colors are from the Mondrian paintings. As for the movement and formations I can't tell you but I loved the show. and really loved last years as well.
You may have known, but Avon's Director is Matt Harloff, who also happens to be the Brass Caption Head for Carolina Crown. Definitely shows how skill of staff translates to the Band. They have an amazing group of people there. Avon's horn line is amazing every year, their Indoor Winds group is on the same level as their band. Their 2023 Indoor Winds performance is one of my favorite "marching" shows of all time.
If by the last bit, you mean the last formation in their drill, I’ve noticed it has become more common for big bands to have a “wall of sound” in their shows (typically at the end). They come closer to the audience and the sound becomes that much louder for everyone present.
I guess I meant all of it as a whole and the meaning..music and drill and chaos lol and how it ties to Mondriesque. (And it may not mean anything more than a musical "flex" )
And also, not sure what you mean by the 'last bit', but the power of the music is matched by the power of the hornline being a wall of sound 'in your face' :) The color guard flag finally has all of the primary colors together and the cubes are all out and artistically placed around the field. Just a great way to pull everything together at the end! Hope that helps!

Ohhh Okay, this makes sense and helps ALOT :) I definitely appreciate this explanation of show development. Very interesting!
Also, love how you noticed that as the box colors were revealed, it pulled the color out of the uniforms!
Fun fact the show is named after Mondrian’s painting Tableaux #2 which was the name of 2023’s show… 😊
