    Great review RTINGS. Just wish to clarify based of your written review, "It accepts a 4k @ 120Hz signal in 10 or 12-bit color depth with chroma 4:4:4, but it doesn't properly display chroma 4:4:4 because text looks a bit fuzzier than what we would expect.".
    This is sounding suspiciously similar to the issue which the Europe model TCL C825 Mini LED TV has been reported to suffer from, alongside the recently released Panasonic JZ2000. The issue is that at 4K 120hz signal pass-through via HDMI 2.1 ports, it outputs 4K at halved the vertical resolution, causing text and finer details to look blurry.
    If that is so, than the R646 cannot be recommended for gaming or at least as a PC Monitor cause its the same issue as the Sony X900H TV which has not been resolved to this day.

      @Andresito LT1 A video to demonstrate and backup your claim would be nice and much appreciated as currently there are nothing but evidence of this issue on the European version of this TV. So would want to be 100% sure to clear any doubts. But thanks for sharing.

      @ermeliousgaming4164 3 года назад +1

      @Andresito LT1 Very nice, did you also test with a 4K test pattern image? In windows, is your scaling set at 100%? This is because the issue can be missed if the image or text is scaled / enlarged. An analysis video of this would be great!

      Hey! Apologies for the delay, but we wanted to check in on this before we replied. So after looking into this and comparing it, this is NOT the same issue as the X900H. While it makes it not as ideal for a monitor as you say, it does not suffer the same issue we noted in the Sony X900H.

    Hi Rtings! I noticed in your longevity test on this TV, you stated after 2 months that the brightness had started to reduce dramatically. When looking at the graph, it seems the brightness was low at around 1k hours, but went back up. So at this point has the brightness really went down and then came back up?

      @@SightlyJester I had flickering on my 2018 TCL 6-series. None on the new R646. The new set is a lot better than my old one. The ONLY issue I’ve seen so far with the new tv, which isn’t a huge issue, but sometimes the way it handles motion is odd. It seems to smooth out with motion correction, but then I get a soap opera effect, and I don’t like that either. Sometimes the motion is perfect and seamless, but depending on what content I’m watching and through what device, it does produce a stutter. Can’t pinpoint exactly when it does this. On different apps for sure. Trying to figure it out so I can try and correct it or avoid it. But like I said, the Motion is sometimes perfect. Sometimes it’s just off, a little, but enough for me to notice. I’m going to continue to play around with it some more. But I would 100% recommend this tv. For sure.

    • @RTINGSdotcom
      @RTINGSdotcom  3 года назад

      Overall, we give the edge to the R646!
      The R648 is an 8k model with Roku TV, while the R646 is a 4k TV with Google built-in. They each have VA panels with high contrast, and even though their local dimming features are both decent, they perform differently. The one on the R648 crushes blacks with minimal blooming and the one on the R646 helps brighten highlights, but it doesn't improve the contrast with real content much. They both don't upscale 480p well, but that's because the R646 can't display the proper aspect ratio, and the R648 is just bad at it.

      They're fairly similar overall, but there are a few differences between them. Even though the TCL has Mini LED backlighting, the Hisense has a better local dimming feature because it doesn't raise the black level as much when there are bright objects. The TCL has better contrast, but the difference isn't as noticeable with real content. The TCL also gets brighter, but the Hisense has better reflection handling. While the Hisense uses Android TV and the TCL has Google, they're very similar, and the only differences are aesthetic.

      @@theelusivememe1772 I'm loving it. I came from a 2016 Samsung KS8000 which looked very good, even now compared to some budget TV's but this TCL definitely performs better. Been playing Warzone on 4k 120hz and it makes a big difference. Only issue I've had is the SlingTV app tends to freeze but I believe that's more on the app itself since it's updated via the play store and not so much via TCL's updates.

    Great tv for gaming! I also have the LG CX. The picture is good the negatives are dolby vision movies don't look good something is definitely wrong and the dirty screen affect is the worst I've seen but that I only see for a sec or 2 when loading war zone. But the reason I got it was to save my oled from
    Burn in. Plus my oleds 55" in the bedroom and I wanted a 65" for the livingroom for gaming. The 120hz gaming is great on both the oled and the 6 series for the price it's a great deal I would have loved to play on the hisense U8G that's the other budget tv I was looking at. I hope the dolby vision gets an update. It must have got 1 cause the 1st couple weeks dolby vision was so bad the black bars were flashing and could see blocks in them like minecraft. Tvs good but going from an oled its hard to be impressed except when watching LG the black video on utube that looks as good as the Oled so the tv is certainly capable of an insane picture. and even my 2014 samsung 8 series 1080p flagship that was 4 thousand $ looks perfact just didn't have hdmi 2.1 wich makes gaming sooo much better. I went from 3 kills average in war zone till 6 or 7 having double the Fram rate huge advantage. I just started playing video games again and I'm 42 so don't make fun of my kills lol

    Hi, I bought a 55 inch Q70a and I like it very much in TV Shows, however, unlike my old Samsung UE640mu 40 inch this new Samsung makes flickering that creates eyestrain when I play at 120 Hz or in game mode as the flickering goes from 960 Hz to 120 Hz and it is visible to the naked eye even in the Xbox Series X menu.
