- This time the role is reversed. Exchange is On-Premises and setup in hybrid environment. User mailbox in on-premises but you are planning to migrate to Exchange Online and you need to resolve duplicate identities. You want to perform Soft match a.k.a SMTP merge so that on-premises user account gets merged \ matched with cloud identities upon syncing. What if UPN is same for Cloud and On-Premises user but Primary SMTP address is different?
