80crv2 steel quickly is becoming like a National Steel of Finland, LOOL! We have this obsession that we have to have National thing for everything: national fish, national bird, national tree the list goes on, lol. I met the owner of the Laurin Metalli (maker of 80crv2). Hes of third generation of steel making (also great knife designer). Nice, down to earth guy. Did also interview with him. Will post that soon in my channel. Thanx for a great review!
I love Brisa. Carry a Bobtail 80 at work. Sanvick steel for $60. Can't beat their value, especially considering the fit and finish. Sharpens to scary, sticky sharp. Great heat treat. Roughed up my micarta a bit.
80CRV2 is a great tough steel for Bushcrafting tasks, and I have been a big fan of Brisa for years and NKD Nordic Knife Design (an offshoot of Brisa). So many great and affordable knives often offered in multiple steels and grinds. I would love to see them do a Sabre grind and Scandi Grind with a convex at the bottom in the future.
That's the first knife review that you've done in a while now that's made me really want a new blade. Blessed with some cool tools but I can see this being something I would be seriously interested in.
@gideonstactical I don't own an out and out bushcraft tool which is an activity I am being more and more drawn to. For some reason never made the transition from survival knife to bushcraft. I did go from Survival to a more tactical application and have just used one of these two styles to meet any woodcrafts wants. I really like the look of the handle and the fact that it looks a bit "beefier" than a Puko or a Mora. The blade thickness towards the tip made me think strong tanto and as you mentioned the clip point or spear point is very common so I like this as it's more unusual. I guess I am looking for something rugged but also something that fills a missing niche. I feel I need something that isn't going to break which is why I haven't pursued such a tool but this is the best one I've seen so far so thanks for showing something new!
Its one of the most ergonomic knives out there. i got one as a present decades ago and its still in top notch condition, havent had to sharpen it too much either since its pretty strong.
@@gideonstactical great knife, got a nice flash of the blade. hope you recorded that video 2 minutes to midnight and didn´t get bothered by Charlotte the Harlot.😉
About time someone showed off a Brisas knife. I think all their currently making is a 95mm version made of 12c27. Currently edc is a discontinued elver in 12c27. I also like their nesmuk knife.
I like it! It's got a handle like the trapper but a straight back like a puukko, and a higher scandi than the trapper, which is also more puukko like. I want one!
@@thegreasersoutdoors Bark River is actually not bad I own some but it's gamble, either you get a good one or you get a knife with a bad fit and finish. As example the Bravo 1 has a good design and the handle shape ist great. Borax or bar keepers Friend will take off any patina and minor rust off of the blade without causing any scratches plus it will shiny up the blade a little bit
The blade is what you more or less find on all puukko knives. They did the full tang for people that abuse the crap out of their knives. They are very useful tools though most people don't have a clue how to use a knife as tool for doing the task of daily life/actual survival. They just want to beat it with a stick and split fire wood that mostly doesn't need to be split. Take care and may God bless and keep you.
Really nice and genuine blade. Never seen so many featherstick in your vids. Always useful comments, I really appreciate your work, it is like a ray of light in a deep forest in Colorado.Take care of you and your family.
Looks like a wonderful knife. How does it compare to the terava jaakaripuukko 110? I believe they are made with the same steel and have a similar blade geometry
Thanks. I love straight backed Scandinavian knives. I have several. I have a Brusletto double set that in more than 50 years old. My mom was born in Norway. 🇳🇴🔪🎸
80CrV2 might have better edge retention than 1095 because manufacturers heat treat it harder than 1095, because 80CrV2 is significantly tougher than 1095.
Very interesting, lovely blade design. Puuko knives are the original outdoor bushcraft design. Knife Country shows model Brisa 302 Trooper 115 w/ 80crv2 carbon steel 0.8% and 0.5% chromium -- so, yeah, that blade is going to rust & pit if not cared for. Amazon shows 2 related ENZO models -- no. 95 w/ B690 stainless, and the very similar Enzo model 115 in Elmax (considerably higher price). These are all fantastic designs. I would go with the stainless Bohler steel 'cause I don't like rust. Thanks for another great knife review. FYI: Enzo seems to have more of a traditional Scandi grind
Check out the Enzo/Brisa Trapper too. I have the 95 and 115 kits in Elmax.. probably the sharpest factory edge I've ever received, and they hold it a really long time.
I have been using my Brisa/Enzo Necker with scandi grind for a couple years now. I noticed the slick handle on mine but with a little light grit sand paper that took care of the problem for me. @@gideonstactical A knife I can highly recommend is the TRC South Pole. The fit and finish by TRC is top notch and the heat treatment is on spot. The only downside is the price.
It's not a bad looking knife, but I have a lot of other knives that are scandi grind, that would do just as good and don't cost almost $200 bucks. Hell the Terava Puukko might actually be a better knife and cost way less.
Hey brother if you loved this'n then you absolutely HAAAAVE to checkout their 80crv2 kephart as well! I own both and man do they perform way outside of their price and weight class...
Great review. As I already said on your previous community post, if people are interested they can also by the blade only or the blade+scales kit of this knife for a fraction of the fully built knife. If you like this steel, and are looking for a slightly longer blade, but also cheaper, you should have a look at the Terävä Jääkäripuukko 140. A fantastic knife, but for half the price also made in Finland and 1" longer blade.
Where Brisa fails, for me, is the “false” Scandi edge geometry. The bevel changes angel toward the tip, making it extremely difficult to be sharpened as a Scandi. Thus, you are just maintaining the secondary edge bevel. A true Scandi, like on my Casstrom Woodsman, is far better (for my uses with wood), and the true Scandi creates a superior edge. For this reason, I won’t buy Brisa. It took me a lot of effort to re-shape mine to a true Scandi. Why have it look like a Scandi, when it is not?
The knife is just beautiful and perfect, in my opinion. About the sheath...I don't get that square corner, it's unnecessary as esthetics go, and they should of put some logo or engravings to it. That's just about it. Greetings Aaron, and it is always a pleasure to watch your videos.
Nice! I knew of Brisa as knifemaking supply provider but never paid attention (or knew) of their knives. Dang, looks solid, might need to get one. :) Oh, the Rokka ”Korpisoturi” is also nice, the name means ”Wilderness warrior”, just wish they had a version with a bigger blade. It is meant to be a modern ”tactical” version of a soldier’s puukko, clearly aimed at the active military and reservist crowd here in Finland. Cheers from Helsinki, Finland! 🇫🇮

Gear review is what this channel has been about since day one . Literally dozens of other channels out there presenting skills, demonstration, and mindsets .Aaron is one of the best gear reviewers in the game if it ain’t broke don’t fix it .
Thank you very much for the encouraging words my friend. I would like to do some more skill based videos but gear reviews is definitely my bread and butter👍

I gotta unsubscribe from you man. You're puttin a hurtin on my wallet. 😅
At least that's what i tell my wife. 😂
Haha, way worse ways to spend you $$$ then on a knife addiction 👍
I tell her that all the time too!
Everything he touches is great?!!???!!... show us maybe what not to buy or look for.....#PaidProductGuy
Hahhahaha I love these comments. Out of the last 12 videos, 4 of them i pointed out serious problems or just don’t like the design. SOG Altair FX, Buck 117, OKC SPL, 511 skylight weight. That is 33% of videos. Second, I am making ZERO money off this knife. It is NOT of my affiliates, but still singing it’s praises because it’s a good knife. Like I do in every video. If it’s good I tell you and if not I tell you. 👍
@@gideonstactical
did you buy the knife?
Maybe he just shows us ones he likes? Nah that could never be right?! Smh.
@@neemancallender9092 did you watch the full video?
@@DinoNucci hahah again, go watch my buck 117 for two weeks ago, or my OKC SPL video form last week, or my SOG Altair video then let me know what you think 🤔 👍
