  • Prerequisite: Half-elf, Half-orc, or Human
    You have a knack for learning new things. You gain the following benefits:
    You gain one skill proficiency of your choice, one tool proficiency of your choice, and fluency in one language of your choice.
    Choose one skill in which you have proficiency. You gain expertise with that skill, which means your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make with it. The skill you choose must be one that isn’t already benefiting from a feature, such as Expertise, that doubles your proficiency bonus.

    One the coolest and best combat uses for this feat is taking Athletics on a grapple build that doesn't want to multi-class into rogue to get expertise. Expertise in Athletics is really strong for shoving and grappling to the point that it almost feels like auto-success. And, as a bonus, Athletics has some good uses in other contests of strength, leaping, and such both in and out of combat.

    You miss pronounced prodigy .
    You said *"protege"*
    Which means : *a person who is guided and supported by an older and more experienced or influential person.*

    Imagine a bard with expertise starting out with persuasion because they were trained to be an interpreter/ emissary. At lvl 3 become an eloquence bard. It just gets better from then on.

    Not 100% on what you mean for the bard. If you are referring to jack of all trades that only applies to non-proficient skills so it would not apply

      Gotcha! I assumed it wouldn't stack, thank you soooo much for the clarification.

    fun with Alchemist here Pair it with Atheltics. and also Tavern Brawler. make a weird drunken chemist who punches people. throws acid/alch fire, casts spells, and grapples with a bonus action on occasion quite effectively

    As for an idea, I will do this in one of my games. Take variant human and this feat at level one. Put an extra point into Dexterity for variant human. Assuming standard array you have a 16 dex. Take a proficiency in slight of hand and double it. Become the best card trick bard ever with a +7 slight of hand and all the other performance stuff from bard.
    Edit: forgot to mention you can also gain proficiency in card sets if I am understanding the feat correctly

      @ChancesSpellbook  4 года назад +2

      I like this! I'd also allow you to gain proficiency in card sets!

      @@trinxty6099 I LOVE them as well, I DM'd one game where the bard specialized in magic tricks! I allowed him to give some of his props, weapon stats, it was honestly one of my funniest campaigns!

    I might take this feat. I'm playing warlock/sorcerer multiclass 2/3 elf chapter (well Agrus's dad is half elf and his mother is a draw). I took a Sage background to represent my parenthood. So it's acool way to double up onto Arcane proficiency (with is +3 and /+2 from Int stat/). More over It will take a proficiency in Perception skill that in turn would compensate for my -1 on Wisdom score. And one more language as anice ribon would probably Sylvan or Elemental . However this part probably will be redundant due to our DM ruled Comprehend languages as a direct magic Google traslator.

    The feat has flavor but not that much crunch behind it. It could be worthwhile on certain builds (Ritual Catcher Arcana Expert Tomelock) but if I was GMing I'd be buffing it - either +1 to a stat depending on the chosen expertise (to stay logical) and/or the option to take +0,5 prof on a skill you already have expertise in instead of taking expertise directly. Still better than Weapons Master.

      Yeah! I agree, I just find it to be a little underwhelming!

    You mean "Jack of All Trades", it only work if you do not have Proficiency in Skill.
    Like you have Proficiency in Skill 4 thing, that good. If you don't have any Proficiency in other skill, "Jack of All Trades" will work.
    Also they can have Expertise at 3rd and 6th level, only 2 Skill can get Expertise at those level.

    Made a scholar mage with the optional human rules. I used prodigy for him. The extra skills fit the character. I also play in a clericless game, so using the expertise for medicine helped. His tool prof. Was thieves tools. He had a tendency to want to look at forbidden texts at his school. Constantly breaking into the restricted archives.

    With the idea being that you're supposed to have be atleast partially human it's weird that Tieflings, Aasimar, Yuan'Ti and other humans don't have this. Especially Aasimar who are basicly humans most of the time except for like 1 minute per day

    • @ChancesSpellbook
      @ChancesSpellbook  4 года назад +2

      I 100% agree! This is by far the weirdest racial Feat in 5e haha!

    • @thetoadman3172
      @thetoadman3172 3 года назад

      I mean, tieflings and aasimar both have much stronger extraplanar influences that make them quite different from their human roots, and purebloods are very much not human, they only look mostly human.

    Jack of all trades only counts if you do not already add proficiency so jack of all trades can’t stack with anything other then spells (correct me if I’m wrong please

    It's pronounced prodigy, not prodigy.
