Finally, we’ve got a clear understanding of Gall’s Law, and the Kaveri engine seems to be following it perfectly. This gives us confidence that we’ll have our own fighter jet engine with an afterburner within the next decade.
@@jollybetter Sure! First of all you need to understand what Gall's Law is: A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked. A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be made to work. You have to start over with a working simple system. Jet engines are among the most complex engineering systems, requiring perfect synchronization of materials, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and precision manufacturing. Instead of building on a simpler, reliable engine and iterating, the Kaveri project aimed to make a high-performance engine directly. To the contrary, countries like the U.S. or Russia, which produce reliable engines, evolved their designs over decades, starting with simpler engines and gradually improving them. That being said, our scientists were able to design a fully working Kaveri engine but the Thrust to weight ration didn't meet the LCA's requirement. Few years ago, we decided that we will first master the dry version of kaveri engine (a simpler version, which doesn't have an after burner, that gives it more thrust), integrate it with our indigenous drone and then work towards a fully functioning engine that can be integrated into Tejas/AMCA. Hope it helps!
