The voice acting in this game is phenomenal. That frustration in Atreus' voice when he says "great, I guess everyone's against me now" sounded so realistic. 52:58 This whole cutscene was just wonderful. I'm literally crying. The actors, especially FREYA'S actress, did an incredible job at voicing the pain and unspoken words. You're so right with "This is a different Kratos than we've ever seen". Well, yes he has felt guilt and most likely self-loathing before but the way he interacts with Freya is consistently delicate and open. He never pushed her feelings down despite the situation but doesn't ask for forgiveness. Completely unlike what one would expect of the ghost of Sparta but he truly just wants peace and happiness for those he care about, including Freya.
yea, kratos wants peace and happiness away from senseless wars for him, his family and friends. but that'll never happen since GOW fans, developers and investors will always want new sequels again and again.
I honestly enjoyed seeing Sindri and Atreus argue and sindri being upset with him because he cares about his safety and he feels he’s loosing Atreus to the mistrust of Odin who he knows is playing him. Surprised Atreus in a blind anger moment didn’t bring up in front of everyone sindri’s secret about brok. When he hit sindri my heart broke I hope he’s okay
Even though it’s awkward, I really love the scene where everybody gathers around the table. I love it so much, it’s like they’re a family and join the argument after seeing that son and father are having some beef. Especially love that “Shut up, Brok!” which Cory says, really adds up to the family thing.
54:03 So, for anyone who didn't refresh their memory with the first game, reminder that Freya said *exactly* this to Kratos when he tried to apologize for assuming the worst of her when he found out she's a god. When she agreed to heal Atreus when he got sick. This writing, dude, I tell ya.
You have to remember, the entire driving force behind Atreus's current decision making is the fear of losing his father. Ever since he saw that prophecy, it's been all he can think about. Keep in mind as well, this is coming on the heels of his mother's death (you don't magically get over the absence of your mother in 3 years, especially when you're still a child), so he's likely terrified of being left alone in the world with no direction. Plus, Angrboda told Atreus he couldn't say anything about Iron Wood or what he saw etc., so it's not like Atreus can just come out and tell his father. And he's frustrated, because he feels like he's being made to be responsible in ways his father hasn't always been. He resents his hypocrisy to a degree, which is why he's unable to resolve the difference between the secrets he's keeping and the ones his parents kept. All in all, he's acting like a normal teen. He wants to be respected and heard, after a childhood of being forced to respect and listen to everyone around him (in the way that parenting is essentially "forcing" a child to conform to a standard). And Kratos is not a good father lol, no matter how you wanna slice it. He wants to be, the desire is definitely there, but the man was never even a child himself and his first one died before he could actually raise her. He has no idea what he's doing. The man kept his son's identity from him for 11 years out of fear and shame, he kept the history and lineage of his mother a secret, he even lied by omitting his own lineage and past history because he thought his son would follow in his footsteps. I mean good grief, it took Kratos 11 years to start calling his son by his own name instead of just "boy". In contrast, Atreus is really going through it for such a young kid. Half of his suffering was due to the secrets his parents both kept, he's having to endure his father's principled discipline without a mother to balance it with nurturing love and affection, he has no idea who he is or why the giants prophesied that he was such an integral part of the way the timeline is supposed to unfold (which is a pretty big deal), he grew up in complete isolation with no friends or any opportunities to become properly socialized, and just about every person or living creature is trying to kill him or his father in front of him. He's 14. He's literally a child, having endured probably one of the most dysfunctional upbringings a child possibly could. Go back and look at the story trailer for the first game, and look at the number of deep scars Atreus has all over his face at _11 years old._ Watch the opening scene, as he tries to escape his circumstance with two wooden figurines, playing in the snow. He didn't ask for any of this. Edit: Some of you grew up in very dysfunctional households with extremely toxic and unrealistic standards and it shows in your lack of empathy for a literal 14 year old child lol, who's father is probably the most impregnably stoic man in all the 9 realms lol (to a clear and absolute fault).
literally & it’s annoying when ppl say he sucks or whatever but how else was he supposed to go abt this especially as a teenager that has hardly met anyone besides his parents & is having to deal w all these existential problems when both his parents kept secrets that could’ve helped him
Tbh I thought there would be more people empathizing with Atreus due to the amount of shits he’s been through and having to deal with a Father like Kratos
@@YRTTSSFS Exactly, you get it. It's an almost unreal amount of responsibility to expect a kid who's never been properly socialized and has lived in isolation *because* of his parents choices and secrets and continues to have to deal with them now. The kid has legit never had a friend, never had another example of how adolescence is supposed to unfold, and Kratos is such a Spartan he was hardly ever a child so how would he even begin to understand you know? I feel like Atreus would gladly listen to his father if he felt like he was truly respected and heard. Kratos' hardest lesson to learn is how to listen to his son. Listening.
I love how relationships and bonds are shown in this game. It’s something about it that just makes me smile. You can feel the emotion coming off of each sentence. The voice actors and devs put their soul into it.

bro cory going through his menu in the middle of the fight just makes me think of like kratos stunning an enemy, then pulling out a checklist and making a note to himself while his opponent is burning to death from his chaos blades.
The voice actors in this game really put their best into delivering their lines effectively, especially Freya's voice actress. Before the mission where Kratos reconciles with her, the tone at which she speaks with was hostile and bitter, full of anger and tension, but after the reconciliation, her tone became softer and calm, that of a caring mother. I know it's evident and it's what should be expected from their reconciliation, but you just have to appreciate it because every line was delivered masterfully. What a game, this one is.
To be fair I don't really think Atreus is acting so terrible as the game portrays him. He has to keep a secret to protect his new friend, the Giant race, and his own dad. And he's just trying to get help without letting the secret of the murals or Ironwood slip out. He is kind of mouthy to Kratos and his friends but he's probably under a ton of stress since he feels like he's the only way to keep things together and avoid Ragnarok.
@@samurairenn6232 Fair. I'm not sure why he went to Odin either. They're trying hard to portray Odin as the cool laid back guy when he isn't like that at all. He went in as a "spy" but I don't think it'll stay that way unfortunately 😬
@@dominiccarr7597 Yes that is Atreus's intention but I predict that he's gonna think "hmmm Odin is really nice and giving me stuff and letting me do whatever so he must not be that bad" and Atreus won't really be 'spying' anymore. @@LangkeeLongkee all kids aren't like that, though. that just feeds into the stereotype that all kids in his situation would act the same way and personally from my own experiences as a child, I was always able to be warned as opposed to finding everything out the hard way. lmao that's why kids should just fucking listen sometimes. they don't know what else to do except be a contrarian? nah bruh lmao
To be fair, he has a lot of responsibility and expectations that he WANTS to commit to but Kratos doesn’t want that for him. While his execution was trash, he is right about it being his life.
@@ZayTheKid92 I didn't say all kids were like Atreus, but understanding him also comes in the form of understanding kids. Atreus being Atreus plays into this situation of course, but NO child would respond well to six adults acting as if he's losing his mind because he wanted to do something to help those very same adults. Because Atreus is empathetic and smart, and experienced and dealing with what he's dealing with but also prone to emotional outbursts and making mistakes when he is emotional, lead the specific scenario but his actions aren't out if character for a child. And "that's why kids should just listen sometimes." You're proving my point. They're not GOING to just listen. And that's NORMAL. He's not just a dumb brat, it makes sense why he responded the way he did. They weren't listening to him so why did they expect him to listen to them? He trusted everyone in the room, he was asking for some trust and patience in return, he did not receive it, he got frustrated. I have no idea what everyone in that room thought was going to happen, I don't know what they expected to happen. As soon as that interaction started, as soon as dominos started falling I saw where it was going. At the end of the day kids have to experience. And it's not actually good for a child to listen to what they're told just because they're told so, they need to learn to think and evaluate what they're being told on their own. That's what leads to kids listening to BAD advice, because they're very obedient, which isn't inherently good.
@arianna I'm not saying his words were good but he's like a 14 year old boy who is prone to being emotional. He's smart, he's kind, he's trusting, he's sensible, and yet their initial reaction was DIStrust and acting like he was losing his mind. If your kid is angry enough to swear at you, something they never do, diffuse the situation before you try to criticise their actions perhaps? Not every kid is rash and emotional but Atreus IS and everyone in that room KNEW that yet acted the way they did. And every kid would feel some type of way about being spoken to the way they were speaking to him, whether they had an outburst or not. And a child should not have to actually snap for you to reign it in.

AHHHHHHHHH WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Kratos screaming "BOY!!!!!!!" made me feel more tense than when he went back to Olympus for Zeus' head
His dad should know the truth though. He chose to go to odin, knowing odin isnt a good guy.
@@samurairenn6232 Fair. I'm not sure why he went to Odin either. They're trying hard to portray Odin as the cool laid back guy when he isn't like that at all. He went in as a "spy" but I don't think it'll stay that way unfortunately 😬
He went to Odin to spy or something no?
@@dominiccarr7597 Yes that is Atreus's intention but I predict that he's gonna think "hmmm Odin is really nice and giving me stuff and letting me do whatever so he must not be that bad" and Atreus won't really be 'spying' anymore. Either way everyone needs to keep in mind that Odin is a psycho and not some cool uncle like the game portrays him.
@@karah7086but atreus isn't stupid he knows Odin is one of the reasons he's father dies so he won't completely trust not to mention he knows what he's doing he just wants to find more ways to help

You know it's gonna go crazy when kratos says boy after all these episodes
The thing is.... You can't blame Artreus, he is misbehaving sure but he has to protect Kratos and champion Ragnarok without telling anybody how he knows certain things.
@@I_Kankin if he told kratos this whole thing would have been prevented since kratos alr knew about the prophecy he is keeping secrets for no reason

Atreus's actions never cease to baffle me
Then you simply don't understand kids. Right or wrong most of his choices make sense, and then they don't, he just genuinely didn't know what else to do.
1:37 ts is too good the classic editing of coryxkenshin thats why he can never hire an editor
