  • At the ripe age of 24, Bob Dylan was already considered to be the voice of his generation. His fans were used to hearing his songs acoustically but when Dylan got on stage on July 25, 1965, at the Newport Folk Festival …the audience got something completely unexpected.

I wasn't born until 96 and it makes me so angry people got triggered by this and actually walked away from the venue and gave him verbal abuse but proud Dylan didn't let this stop him

Pivotal moment in popular music, but just for reference; if your favorite musician went up on stage and sounded completely different, wouldn’t you feel at least a little alienated?

As I said, one of the greatest defining moments in rock, as well as mainstream American pop-culture history. We wouldn’t have Blonde on Blonde without Dylan going electric

By playing "Maggie's Farm" Dylan was telling everybody he wasn't going to conform to any musical style. Like it or not.

I was there... and this lady has it almost right. Most of us we're yelling out that, we couldn't hear it! It was the people up front that booed... who were the real diehard folkies. We already knew he went electric, one of those songs was on the top 40.

That Howlin’ Wolf song was the basis for Led Zep’s How Many More Times which sampled parts from at least 3 artists, inc. Jimmie Rodgers “Sweeter Than Wine”

I was there and still have the Playbill. When Dylan, Bloomfield and Butterfield began to play the sound was terrible, especially Dylan's voice mic. The boos started immediately. The set was short and as we left , Pete Seeger came over to me and asked, "What did you think about that?" He looked very serious. I said ,"These are some of the most liberal people in this country and they boo him. I don't understand." He didn't look happy about what I said and moved back from the gate without asking anything else of anyone. I didn't know until later that Seeger was going to pull the plug during the set. It's well that he didn't.

No-one shouted Judas that day as far as is known - don't know WHY the "voice over " said that! The "Judas!" shout was at The Free Trade Hall, in Manchester,. UK. in 1966....
