My first job in the late 90's was at McDonald's and we USED to mix up hot cake batter and cook them on a griddle top. We had a special dispenser so they were all uniform in size. I only worked there a couple of years and during that time, they switched to pre-made hot cakes that came frozen in a big box.
In China, you can ask the clerk to adjust the number of ice cubes in the soda drink, or ask for no ice, and it will be filled slightly. French fries are still packed in paper bags, and only some special-flavored versions, such as V-shaped potato wedges, are packed in paper boxes. Chicken McNuggets also have 4-pieces, BUT only for children set.
As a student athlete in China in hoops and swim I do have to confess that the pan-grilled chicken sandwich is my pre-game go-to lol. Had my best game in high school after smuggling in a 板烧鸡腿堡. Kept practicing the vice ever since and not once did the mighty sandwich failed me.
Disclaimer, I think he did an AMAZING job, but I hate the fact he has a British accent. I definitely don't want him to fake a local Chinese accent, but for consistency I wanted him to have one.
The reason probably is that they teach students british pronunciations and spellings in China. As it’s the original English. The “correct” English as someone might say.
Growing up in China I still remember how good the chicken sandwiches and wings are in China's mcd's.. Honestly the closet wings replacement option you'll be able to find in North America would be the hot wings from Popeyes, 90% identical I'd say.

So glad for another season of food wars. I’m highly addicted to watching food wars when I’m heading to bed for some reason😂 y’all should do food wars with Germany or France next season👀
Dont forget the chicken 'n cheese! One of my favorite food items to get in aus along with servo sausage rolls. Big brekkie is also fire but I'm usually way too hungover partying with aussies to make it to maccas before noon.
Welcome Tianran. I can't wait to see what other differences China has in the upcoming shows. Also hope to see a Spanish speaking country (maybe Mexico?) in the future of Food Wars.
I don't know if USA KFC is a lot different than what we have in my country (CZ), but KFC here is the most bland tasteless and boring chicken meal you can get. It's still extremely pupular, because ads. So I like McDonalds a lot more, go there from time to time to munch on the tasty chemicals.
This is going to be another GREAT season! I always enjoy learning about other cultures through their (fast) food 👏 Was interesting to learn that “not too sweet” is a compliment, I’ll definitely keep that in mind next time!
OMGGGG u guys did China! Im literally abt to cry loll, but srsly there just SO MANY new things in china in the fast food chains like KFC, mcdonalds and pizza hut, etc that are specifically designed for the Chinese taste that u can't find anywhere else!! Also they have new products every 2 weeks or so, it's so exciting and vibrant (compared to the UK where everything is just kinda always the same...... T T). Thanks so much and PLS do more of China!! It'll be worth it :D
Honestly the grilled chicken sandwich in McDonald in China is so delicious, I think about it every time I get McDonald in other countries. The grilled chicken thigh is so juicy and tender inside out (even on the bottom), there is skin left on the thigh for that thin layer of melting fat, and the sauce has enough pepper in it to counter the greasiness on top of the fresh lettuce…It’s been my favourite ever since childhood
Oh wow Tianran is very knowledgeable about food, he very accurately described the taste of century egg. And how did he know that a latte is 2/3 coffee, amazing. Looking forward to more episodes!
Planning a trip to China in a few months. Wasn’t expecting to eat at McDonald’s there but now I can’t wait to try some of the items shown in this video😂
For us Chinese people living abroad, McDonald's and KFC are a must-try when we return home. Last time I tried the yabbies chicken taco from KFC. Yes, Mala yabbies wrapped in a piece of fried chicken shaped into a taco!
Would love to see Cyprus vs USA episode. Perhaps it has changed a lot since I visited a few years ago, but I recall the menu in Cyprus being so nice and having quite a few differing options.
I want to try Mc Donald's Chinese options! Since I may not be able to visit China anytime soon, One suggestion would be: What about a promotion idea to feature international options (besides desserts) in America and elsewhere? Let's Do it Mc Donald's! ☺
In Chicago, there is one macd that provides a menu from around the world (think it is Macd's headquarter), however, the options are really limited, but still a great place to try.
This is really interesting, the McDonald's menu in China is totally different then those in Hong Kong and Macao. Breakfast is more similar to the US offerings except we do not have Mc Griddles & biscuits and but we have elbow macaroni in soup (one of the Hong Kong breakfast staples) and no congees (no one would go to Micky D's for Chinese style breakfast tbh). There's also an Mc Egg sandwich which was my favorite (basically a filet-o-fish sandwich replacing the fish for an round egg)
Macaroni in soup is the best item in McDonald's IMO. It should be available worldwide. Occasionally, we also have shrimp burger and Shogun burger. Those are goodies too.
Having lived in China for 10 months, the Chinese McDonald's experience is wildly different. The food is really good and prepared far more carefully. The regional specialty burgers were awesome.
I wish you could do the Austrian McDonald's menu, especially during the Christmas season! There's lots of unique items, such as heart-shaped cheese nuggets, lingonberry dips, interesting burgers like the McRösti (with a huge potato patty), etc etc. Also, for a long time, McCafé held the monopoly on fast food cafes (no Starbucks outside the capital until the 2010s!) so the options there are so massive. Besides the drinks, they also sell lots of cakes ❤
Sausage McGriddle is the best thing on the morning menu. It's literally pancakes and sausage with mapley syrup. The only thing that would make it better would be slapping some butter(-flavored spread) onto it. Though -- I will admit to liking the SEC version a lot, but it feels like a bit much to have the egg and cheese included, sometimes. Very much enjoyed Tianran's debut! I hope we'll get to see a lot more of him! Also, congee is pretty much Asian rice grits and I'm all for it!
It’s so good that if McDonalds served breakfast all day, it’s all I would ever order from McDonald’s. Maybe it’s actually a good thing that they don’t have all day breakfast 😅
The main problem with McD's in China is that it's the same price as in other countries, so like KFC, it's actually one of the most expensive food options! Also, like the Starbucks there, the McD's restaurants have that kind of ultra modern-luxurious aesthetic, they are really nice places to chill out, and it's not uncommon to see people with laptops working or students studying.
No, 20 years ago they were expensive. now they are no longer expensive compared with other food options in China. Eating out at a regular Chinese restaurant would cost pretty much the same. they are not the cheapest though.
Yeah, they are more expensive because China has a lot more cheap food options! You can get very full if you just go get a bowl of noodles for 15 CNY (just over $2). McD's is significantly more than that. Unlike in America, where there really aren't any much cheaper food options (they'll all be dubious fast food).

And you forgot the extra cool stuff- they had a starfruit soda that was life changing, and a couple of limited items was seaweed shaker fries around May each year (sooo good!) & curly battered fries around November (but they only sold them in small size, freaking annoying when they were SO good!). My first job in the late 90's was at McDonald's and we USED to mix up hot cake batter and cook them on a griddle top. We had a special dispenser so they were all uniform in size. I only worked there a couple of years and during that time, they switched to pre-made hot cakes that came frozen in a big box.
McDonald's is importing sustainable ethnically raised rats for the 10-dollar menu. Newsom nuggets, there Um Umm good.

板烧鸡腿堡YYDS!
We have板燒雞腿包in HK McDonald’s too but I think it’s like a smaller version compare to China, also we usually call it GCB

I was not expecting Tianran to have a british accent, but he seems like a great guy! Looking forward to more vs China food wars
probably privileged upbringing gave him years of studying under british teaching.
Disclaimer, I think he did an AMAZING job, but I hate the fact he has a British accent. I definitely don't want him to fake a local Chinese accent, but for consistency I wanted him to have one.
@@nahor88 bro what’s wrong with a british accent
The reason probably is that they teach students british pronunciations and spellings in China. As it’s the original English. The “correct” English as someone might say.

Not gonna lie I am surprised I thought it was going to be Australia and I want more USA vs China and I also want China vs Japan food wars
As an australian I can say that the menu here is generic as hell and wouldn't make for an interesting comparison.
If I had to guess, next countries would probably be Brazil, Saudi Arabia, or Mexico.

Tianran seems like a very kind person. Looking forward to seeing more of him in future videos.
Tianran is such a cool host, his presentation is brilliant for this show.
It is so refreshing to see regular content about China

Woaaaah, China’s the new Food Wars competitor! I remember trying the Spicy Chicken Fillet Burger in Beijing in 2013 with a side of… sweetcorn! Actually loved it tho!
Glad to see this video! Very interesting and loved meeting and watching Tianran! More of him and Chinese food items!
I have been to China many times and I enjoy the unique menu items in their international fast food restaurant chains compared to other countries.
Obsessed with the editing (haha), great video.
Great content !!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
So glad for another season of food wars. I’m highly addicted to watching food wars when I’m heading to bed for some reason😂 y’all should do food wars with Germany or France next season👀
Loved this version! Can’t wait to see more but would still love to see an Australia VS US because we have chocolate ice cream at our Maccas

Dont forget the chicken 'n cheese! One of my favorite food items to get in aus along with servo sausage rolls. Big brekkie is also fire but I'm usually way too hungover partying with aussies to make it to maccas before noon.

I think Tianran is a great host very excited to seeing more videos with him in them

Tianran did a great job so I hope we see more of him. Would love a series on Chinese foods.

Not that spicy "Ooohh! cough splutter" :D Hehe love it! This is a great wee series.
This is going to be another GREAT season! I always enjoy learning about other cultures through their (fast) food 👏
Was interesting to learn that “not too sweet” is a compliment, I’ll definitely keep that in mind next time!
not too sweet MEANS you can taste the flavor of the materials it self
OMGGGG u guys did China! Im literally abt to cry loll, but srsly there just SO MANY new things in china in the fast food chains like KFC, mcdonalds and pizza hut, etc that are specifically designed for the Chinese taste that u can't find anywhere else!! Also they have new products every 2 weeks or so, it's so exciting and vibrant (compared to the UK where everything is just kinda always the same...... T T). Thanks so much and PLS do more of China!! It'll be worth it :D
18:35 syrup isnt injected, they use crystallized shards of syrup in the batter. it melts as it gets cooked.
I like Tianran! Great addition. 👍👍
Very detailed! Thanks for the comparison, learnt from both McDonald’s in US and China
Wow hell ya insider! CHINA?!?!! This is going to be the best season of the series!!!
Alright I'm in. This is cool. I kinda wanna see George and Tianran in a video for a Japan vs. China food wars video.
Omg I used to watch Tianran in documentaries about China when I was younger. I totally forgot about this guy until now😂
Instead of actual wars let’s just have food wars ✌🏻☮️
Oh wow Tianran is very knowledgeable about food, he very accurately described the taste of century egg. And how did he know that a latte is 2/3 coffee, amazing. Looking forward to more episodes!
He’s not dumb lol
Planning a trip to China in a few months. Wasn’t expecting to eat at McDonald’s there but now I can’t wait to try some of the items shown in this video😂
For us Chinese people living abroad, McDonald's and KFC are a must-try when we return home. Last time I tried the yabbies chicken taco from KFC. Yes, Mala yabbies wrapped in a piece of fried chicken shaped into a taco!
Complex topics are broken down so easily. Everything is made so understandable.
Would love to see Cyprus vs USA episode. Perhaps it has changed a lot since I visited a few years ago, but I recall the menu in Cyprus being so nice and having quite a few differing options.
We need an episode on the PIZZA HUT between China and NA. It's night and day difference.

I had heard about these differences from a friend overseas but this was pretty cool comparison
You know being a irish-chinese i still like the charisma this lad takes over here
It's like they recruited the most Harry-esq Chinese person they could find. Welcome Tianran.
Oh that's cool learn more about China, love food Wars.
Have they still got the toasties there?
@@becsterbrisbane6275 We don't have toast here.
Those Chinese beef burger boxes look fire. I’m tempted to travel just for that…
Pineapple Pie needs to be available more widely, I’d love to try it someday.
This is going to be a great series! ❤❤❤
Request: Australia vs USA McDonald’s
Love this! Great company in any country!
Sausage egg cheese McGriddle is never too much
I live in a testing market and they have a Chicken McGriddle (think McChicken patty) and it is their best breakfast menu item.
Tianran sounds more English than Harry! 😂
Nope. A spicy chicken sandwich+4piece chicken nuggets+medium fries+medium coke meal should only cost you 26 yuan which is less than 4 dollar today.
@@midfidelity7180 I don't know if that was a special offer, but I just checked what you said and the closest I can see is SCFB 4pc combo meal (no fries) is priced at 47.9元 or $6.50

@@BanjeetTheHlNDl0TSaaaar so colonialism doesn’t factor in despite British accents and syntax being the standard for Chinese english learners? Fascinating
@@Justiceisahero well technically no since the UK *never* colonised the whole of China *except* for HK. And I’m pretty sure Chinese learners of English learn either both or a mixture of British & American English with of course their own unique characteristics.
I went to Germany in 2005 and they had a Prawn burger with sweet chilli sauce in their McDonalds at the time.

Sadly this video just missed the 20 nuggets for 20RMB promotion which came with 4 different sauces in China. Honey mustard, chili, sweet and sour and garlic chili sauce. You could also get a nugget shaped handheld tetris game which sold out immediately.
This video is a gem.
I won't lie, that Chinese McDonalds is looking really good.
This was so cool! I'd love to see more China food videos! Food is so good there tbh and diverse with each dif province, like when I came back from a trip, everything in the US was too sweet for a while lol
It's hilarious to me how a global fast food chain that literally places all of its focus on *consistency* rather than quality ended up making SO MANY mistakes in the basic accuracy of order fulfillment for two different guys in two different countries at the same time.
Gah, you make me homesick for China once again! I was a teacher in Phoenix City, just east of Guangzhou for 3 years, had a Macca's (what we call it in Australia) right downstairs from my apartment. I swear they knew I was coming every morning as they always had the coffee pot ready for me lol. And you forgot the extra cool stuff- they had a starfruit soda that was life changing, and a couple of limited items was seaweed shaker fries around May each year (sooo good!) & curly battered fries around November (but they only sold them in small size, freaking annoying when they were SO good!). Oh, and Taiwan Macca's has BAGELS for breakfast!!!
