    The whole health thing is a real consideration - I'm 40 now and went to the doctor yesterday (a year and a half sober now) and he said I was in amazing health (lifestyle, blood pressure, weigh/height ratio etc). I used to have really high blood pressure when I was a drinker, it feels good to be able to not be awkward and lie about alcohol use.

    Thankyou both for another interesting listen. When James said that he did not get any bloating after eating a meal made me think and realise that i have not had any since i stopped drinking but it had not crossed my mind till James brought this up. I have also found that drinking dilute orange juice seems to stop the craving for cake and biscuits for me.

      Thanks, Keith, I received so many benefits from not drinking, including not feeling bloated. Good idea drinking diluted orange juice to tame sugar cravings, I will have to try it. Keep up the good work 😊

    The promotion of wine has really caused women in their mid 30s and up who weren't heavy drinkers to become daily heavy drinkers having at least 2 glasses of wine a night and even escalating to whiskey.

    • @Soberstrong
      @Soberstrong  7 месяцев назад +1

    As per your guest alcoholism is a continuum. Moderation turns to a habit turns into a vice turns into abuse turns into dependence. Does it really matter if your brain fools you into enjoying a class 1 Carcinogen for which there is no safe dose?
    I lost 10-15lbs going low carb after the second baby was born and we had two moving targets so I couldn't exercise but in my 30's I regained most of that just from alcohol. Once I quit drinking most of that came off in little over a month and I was eating a bit more too. Still at my high school pants but heavier because I work out more and have more muscle mass. This is very good.
    The problem with alcohol as it relates to weight is its not just the empty calories. Under the influence we're never our best self either and often eat more, way more than we should especially fattening foods either during the effects, or bigger portions seconds or thirds, or when hung over to combat the effects the next day. The kicker of alcohol unfortunately is that it also is the most fattening substance on earth. It deadens sensitivity to insulin so chronically your levels of this hormone will be higher meaning you will be more hungry, eat more and more prone to gaining weight. But the biggest problem with alcohol is it also inhibits the liver from burning fat and this effect can last up to 4-5 days from the last drink. So if someone "only drinks during the weekend" well there you go its enough to last until their next imbibing session on Friday night to ensure that their weight loss efforts will permanently be sabotaged.
    This reminds me of a meme my wife showed me a few years ago about 'cheating only on weekends'. Well 5/7 = 71.4 percent which equates to a C-. So if you're healthy during the week and off the rails on weekends only that's enough to have lousy, mediocre results.
    Regarding Ozempic or any medication its the same as "YOU CAN'T OUTRUN' (or out train) A BAD DIET". You also cannot out-medicate a bad diet. All anti diabetics, appetite suppressants, diet pills, even bariatric surgeries and various versions of stapling your stomach whatever have a life expectancy. They wear off after so many months or years because the patient themselves has not made the necessary changes. They are just tools to manage chronic illness but in the end if the patient persists with their toxic habits the magic carriage always turns back into a pumpkin, always. At best these meds and treatments are useful and often necessary but only give lasting benefit if the toxic influences like alcohol and processed food are removed. You cannot out-medicate a bad diet...
    The thing with type 2 is that there are some forms of damage that are irreversible. You can make it better or have it look like it went away but it has to do with beta cell pancreatic function. We are born with a fixed number of beta cells that produce insulin and they never grow back. With ageing we lose a few every year, and the heavier we are the more we lose. What happens is the remaining cells have to meet the same demand working harder so they die faster too and the progression of diabetes becomes exponential. So by the time the patient becomes pre-diabetic a lot of damage is already done and it may still be worth it to continue antidiabetics after weight loss restores normal sugars just to slow that inexporable progression so that the patient will die of natural causes (old age) before their pancreas fails and they become insulin requiring which is the natural course of type 2. ITs just a question for when, the longer the better.
    This is why for example statins (cholesterol meds) are associated with higher risk for diabetes. Its simple, back in the day everyone always gained weight after starting lipitor or zocor and it was because they thought they didn't have to follow the diet and always came back heavier after starting them.
    You cannot out train a bad diet. You cannot out train alcohol. You cannot out medicate either.

    • @Soberstrong
      @Soberstrong  6 месяцев назад

      I 💯 completely agree with the whole entire statement! You really cannot out train a bad diet or bad habit, you have to get your mind right, and work hard on reversing these damaging effects caused my bad diet and bad habits. So much truth to this! Love your comments they really make me think 😊

    IDK if I was lucky, but it’s been over 9 months and I don’t crave a drop of alcohol, the key difference was that I didn’t suffer withdrawal after go’ogling and reading Steffon Barkload’s Quit Drinking Forever, not even within the first 30 days after I quit and told no one, did not need AA meetings or meds either.

    I don’t believe in calories. I have been organic, healthy keto ten years. I have kept my weight off. 2000 calories a day. I also work out 2 hours a day.
    I came here about alcohol. I was drinking zero carb alcohol on weekends. Probably a total of 4 drinks a week. I decided I don’t want it anymore and quit. I feel better. I didn’t lose weight but didn’t need to because of my diet. I eat a lot of calories but lots of protein and low carbs. It works and I am no longer putting alcohol poisoning in my body. I am 57, 5’8’ and 130 lbs/size 2/4. I also do intermittent fasting for years so that’s easy. I just don’t want to look like an old hag who drinks in the future. I want to keep my great skin and control of how I act.👍All that fruit has tons of sugar. It won’t help you lose weight . Neither will fruit yogurt. Thanks

      Hi Linda
      Thanks for the information it's much appreciated. When I was referring to fruit off the top of my head during the interview to curb sugar cravings, I was referring to having diced fruit on hand to grab a slice or two to curb the craving as opposed to eating refined sugar and in regard to Fruit yogurt I had mentioned that I have one or two table spoons every few days when a craving hits.
      This works for me but might not work for everyone.
      everything in moderation
      Thanks again 😊
