@@damiendarlington A lot of artists do use lyrics on their videos (like Christina Perri). Here, MUSE uses some words to "stick out." But, even Matt has lyrics in his glasses LIVE-but, I have ALL their lyrics cuz it came with the CD!
Nice that you posted the lyrics. One correction: He specifically spells the word *tranceformation* (not transformation) because he was in a trance before and under the handler's control.
For anyone who has ever been seriously abused by spouse or parents, listening to this song gives chills. Its message gives you power to overcome. "you will never own me again". It’s emotional to release decades of innocence, vulnerability, stress, depression, anger, loss, resentment and sadness. and lastly, releasing the infinite neediness and unfathomable love for the abuser from your heart. End of codependency and victimhood, seeing the real truth, let the idea of self shatters and rebuilds. Handler’s messge is spot on for victims of emotional abuse. I always enjoyed it in my healing process. So much respect for muse for the vicseral lyrics and weight put into each words

All you have to do is lift the curtain but it does take some bravery and perhaps a little foolishness to want to know. Projection can be a liar as well
+relative P I thought Chris played the synth for recordings: especially for the track 'Madness.' That's why he had that crazy bass concocted. Matt plays the keyboard for some songs (and piano for others, 'Starlight' and 'Mercy' to name but two)...

Showbiz: "Controlling my feelings for too long" The Handler: "I won't let you control my feelings anymore" Hysteria: "Give me your heart and your soul" Dead Inside: "Do you have no soul? It's like it died, long ago" United States Of Eurasia/Collateral Damage: "Must we do as we're told?" The Handler: "And I will never do as I am told" Unnatural Selection: "I want the truth" Reapers: "I don't think I can handle the truth"
Franco I have the most negative hypothesis: It means the end of Muse. Every song of the last albums now have answers in this one. So why would the story go on? And with an "Amen" at the end of the album...
I have begun to appreciate just how freaking dark this album is. Even I didn't give it the fairest of chances when it came out and now it has really really grown on me.
Lmao same. I remember when it first came out, went and listened to it and none of the tracks really spoke to me at the time but then YEARS later, i hear those songs and I'm like "wow, I'm blown away WTF" Funny how certain albums and songs can do that to ya like, years later...
same, the theme of this album is heavy and I could not listen for 2nd round lol. but there are good songs in this album if you listen to it alone, it's definitely better. like the handler, dead inside, aftermath
mattbellamymate yeah, its been leaked. and Aeterna Umbra's mostly right about the rest of the album. There's a good heavy section in the globalist that doesn't pay off unfortunately.
Pretty much every song on this album has amazing baselines. The bluesy riffs in Psycho, the verses in Reapers, of course this song, Defector. Chris is one of the greatest bassists ever.
This song and Reapers are very good tracks. I wasn't too crazy about Dead Inside and Mercy, and Psycho is okay but the sampling shit annoys me, but these two songs leave no room for complaint. Great tracks.
Telecaster Magician Well put. I actually enjoyed Mercy more than Psycho and Dead Inside. Psycho just plain sucks in my opinion but meh, can't win 'em all.
Telecaster Magician Dead Inside is a brilliant song. Absolutely amazing. This one is awesome too. I didn't like Psycho or Mercy that much. Reapers I have to listen to again.
Telecaster Magician See, Mercy has been on repeat for me the past few days, I've definitely grown to love it since it first came out! I agree about the sampling on Psycho, although I do love the rest of the song aside from the sampling! I would say that this song and Reapers are my two favoruites so far though!
The first few times I listened to this song it didn’t really click with me but when I noticed that bass line I was totally addicted. It’s a top 10 muse song for me pretty much just based on that.
huh... where did all the "New Muse" haters go?... Edit: Wow. I did not expect this comment to be so controversial. I was honestly just poking fun. I suppose i'll weigh in a little. My humble opinion: Muse has done different styles throughout the years. What I like so much about them is that they don't just make songs to please people; they make what they want to make and they do it well. Their newer styles probably don't please the older fans who only liked it for the 90's style alt rock. I'll admit I didn't like the last couple of albums as much as the older ones, but I still enjoyed the hell out of them because I like Muse and what they stand for. I *am* glad to see Muse return to their roots a little, but they will never be the same band they were in the 90's (which is a very good thing, i.e. Nickelback). Stagnant bands are the worst, and Muse is anything but stagnant. THAT is why I say they are still one of the best bands of our time.
I just heard it for the first time yesterday and it will be on repeat for at least a couple of months all day! I have done that with every song I have fallen in love with my whole life and my kids are astonished how I know the lyrics to so many 60's, 70's, 80, 90's and into the 21st century hard rock songs. I am a pretty awesome mom! My kids grew up hearing it all! My eldest son became an incredible musician because of hearing everything I grew up on. Then my boys hooked me up with a lot of 90's and 2000 to current bands. We all love Muse! I shared this with them and they had never heard this either and love it. Only 7 years late! 😂
@@journeygirl4ever You did a great thing by bringing them up to good music. Just be careful - not all bands have a *positive* message in their songs, but really dark ones. Music wokrs on the subconsciousness like nothing else can and one should really be careful of what he or she listens to. Cheers!
Delmazsozso Me as well. It wasn't bad by any means, but after this and Reaper, my hopes kinda skyrocketed for this album. The 2nd half just kinda sounds a lot like my dad might listen to, which is fine, just not amazing like this.

Super fucking powerful MUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Impossible not to love these guys! Genius lyrics for genius messages, genius musicians for genius music. Genius Bass/Drums/Guitar and Genius Matthew Chopininoff Bellamy. Genius style for genius concerts. Genius from the beginning with Showbiz and genius to the way they had to adapt their music to the difficulties of the business, without loosing their own style. Impossible to be compared. The Best.
There is no other music that compares or can come even close to the amazing quality of this band! I discovered them back in 2011 and my God they are truly one of a kind! A true inspiration. 🎤😫

saulo martinez For this song I only needed one reproduction! I mean, for "Dead Inside" and "Mercy" I have to do what you are saying, so I believe I'm now cured of the 3 non-muse-music years :D
Muse, I've been adoring you since your single called "Unintended" was released, until now. (how many years is it, i am old enought, OMG). Your music gave me chills. I hope you guys will still exist until the end of the world. I love you!!!
They're all talented but I myself always get ecstatic hearing Christopher the Wolstenbeast doing even a tiny bit shit through his bass. He always gives me chills. There's something magical about his talent and I've never seen a man being so almighty on screen scratching his bass. I thank the universe for his existence. I love his talent so much.
Everytime this song comes back to me its for a different reason. The main two have been my battles with abuse and addictions. Recognizing and overcoming it all without support of that person and drugs is still something I'm fighting to this day. Reminding myself that even though I lost that control doesn't mean I can't get it back. This song reminds me that I am strong. I won't give in. Those days of feeling completely powerless have come but I continue to get back on that saddle. I have hope of feeling confident, secure, and clear. I have been sober for 3 months now.
They’ve been telling us for years. Don’t know wtf happened with the newest album but I’m going to guess it’s about trans humanism and that’s why I don’t like it.
How any one could give these guys a thumbs down blows my mind. Muse! Absolute legends and love the depth and meaning to your tunes. Mind blowingly amazing band on so many levels
+Simon Rivas I've always dug this song, but when I saw them live (Philadelphia, Wells Fargo), I lost my fucking mind, and have been re-listening to all of their albums.
The lyrics and images in this are the clearest representation of the MK Ultra/Mind Control I've ever seen or heard in music. There are hints of it everywhere, almost ubiquitous in fact, but this is so overt. It's unusual. I wonder if Muse are speaking from their own experiences or referring to others in this industry that have suffered under this kind of controller/handler and subject relationship.
+Christopher Johnson They've talked about the narrative of the album, which is about a person being controlled by the military/government, but you can draw comparisons into any part of your life. I prefer to think of it as being about mental illness
It's not quite MK Uktra mate, the level of control is the relationship between a soldier and his government. This song is midway into the album where the soldier cuts ties with military. The song that follows this one is where he is AWOL and rejects the governments legitimacy completely.
Packercat17 ProjectVRD MKUltra mind control techniques and practices are derived from the CIA (and military) which has been heavily infiltrated by the occult over the years with an emphasis on luciferian doctrine. Occult practices luciferian doctrine often feature themes and messages that are duality-based. There is a light "accessible" meaning which most of the public perceives, but there is also a dark esoteric meaning. Just google Michael Aquino. This light/dark theme permeates most modern music, almost all songs seem accessible and "poppy" but there is almost always something hidden behind it, a "message for the masses" so to speak, but perceived by few. Another one I can think of off the top of my head is Chandelier by Sia (and her videos even feature sexualized children, another hallmark of the occult).
+Christopher Johnson I agree, I've heard Muse since 2005 but this is the first time I ever heard this song and listened to the lyrics. Right away I thought about MK Ultra. Not only that, but the symbols they show in the video (Alice in Wonderland, the cage, etc).
Could it be possible that, with all his reading into this kind of thing, that Matt wrote this song based on what he's read? Rather than writing about his or other people's experiences, he may well simply have the same knowledge of these things as you do or any other online conspiracy theorist and used that to write the song. I'm sure he saw a lot of strange stuff when introduced to the Hollywood elite, but I still personally think he hasn't directly experienced it.
Yesterday I received my SQA exam results. I failed my Chemistry and Physics Higher exams as well as receiving a below expected mark in my English exam, but chemical engineering always seemed like my dream job. In my music however, I received an A. Muse started my passion for both Electric Guitar and Bass Guitar which I sat at an Advanced Higher level. Thanks to these guys, I'm now qualified as a Grade 6 Bass Guitarist and a Grade 5 Electric Guitarist. Music seems now more than ever my future thanks to these legends of Music. Thank You. If any of you ever see this (which is highly unlikely), you have helped me realise that there are other paths for me to take as my confidence and abilities develop. I'm now looking at becoming a Music Teacher, thanks to you.
Oh my god, it's so good live, saw them yesterday in Manchester and there was like a translucent screen and there was a hand controlling Chris, and another controlling Matt I think (where I was sitting I could only see Chris) using strings like a puppet, it was amazing.

Saw Muse live about 5 years ago, unbelievable, floating drones in sinc with music, giant marionette as tall as the ceiling leading down to the guitarists, simulated a large group of military drones with laser eyes running to surround the stage for "crowd control" spectacular show. I became an instant fan.
Since the day I first heard this song to now. The lyrics, the meaning, the bass, the guitar riffs, the drums...this just has it all. I can never get sick of the solo near the end and the bass is so hypnotic. God I love this song.

I saw them live on the drones tour and i am not exaggerating when i say it changed my life. I go to LOTS of concerts, but had never seen such a visual experience and I've seen rammstein, manson, and rob zombie. The handler had giant hands with strings controlling the band members. Every time i hear this song, EVERY TIME, I picture those giant hands flailing around. I will never forget that concert
@Morgan Brandy I first saw them on the Drones tour which was where they played Handler with the giant marionette strings. I saw them a second about a year later for just a more Muse non tour specific show, and finally a third time last spring for Simulation Theory, which was incredible. The choreography alone was stunning, let alone the giant robot they had come with all the lasers, lights, and pyrotechnics. Muse will forever be one of the greatest performers.

@@ZD90SK That is even MORE appropriate with this song. It believe it happens, even today.
Won't stand down is also very powerful in that meaning :)
@@davecalado yes!!! Thanks :)
@@davecalado - Just listened to Won't Stand Down ! Sounds like my relationship I just left after 20 years , a week ago ! I feel free .... Finally ,but I trust no one !!! 👍😘💃🏻
Have been in a marriage that not was happy. Divorced in 2010. Tried to stay on good terms with my ex, because we have children. When this track was released... I knew what was "wrong" with me. It's very emotional and liberating at the same time. Love this. Thanks for your story Isabelle, still helps me a lot.
@@kayceea.saunders2340 In Muse you can trust. Feel for you, hope there will be peace in your heart again. Take care.
I THINK THIS SONG IS ONE OF MY TOPS... Along with Showbiz and Futurism... And shrinking universe... And sunburn... And every other muse song...
I just love this song!!!
My god !! You remind me of shrinking universe !!!! I love that song so much ! *when did i start to forget about that ...
NaufalDrums i had completely forgot about Unintended until i listened to it the other day! I love every muse song!
Showbiz! yes i always enjoy the richness in their music. always an adventure in every album. do you know what i mean hehe
NaufalDrums of corse i do
I think this and reapers are the ones that have truly convinced me that drones is going to be an amazing album
Dragoninspace Listened to the full album today, it's okay but Handler and Reapers are the best 2
***** Aftermath is amazing too
Dragoninspace Listened to the whole album, the rest isn't good. Those 2 songs are the best.
Reapers & The Handler are the best of the album tbh, the rest is ok, The Globalist is good but it didn't blow me away like I thought it would
Dragoninspace You should listen to The Globalist ASAP
Drones certainly isn't my favorite Muse album, but Reapers and The Handler are both in my top 10 favorite songs by these guys.
+PsychicHorse Not their best in my opinion, but still amazing! I can't pick a favorite, though. All of them qualify.
+PsychicHorse I feel exactly the same, Im not crazy about this album as much as the others but Reapers and The Handler (and for me also Dead Inside) saves this album
+PsychicHorse After 2nd Law came out, I thought I was done with Muse. But this album taught me I was wrong to forget them.
+nitrogen76 indeed.. i almost completely forgotten my reason for loving them after 2nd law era
but this song saved me
+mer I dunno Survive was pretty good.
respect for the victims and knowers, who see beyond this as an ordinary song, those who know the truth.

All you have to do is lift the curtain but it does take some bravery and perhaps a little foolishness to want to know. Projection can be a liar as well
Brave and powerful album.
The whole album is a wake up call.
Is targeted to the Us "shit fuckery" but in these troubles time is revelant more than ever
sometimes i wish i didn't but i'm glad that my curse is my greatest blessings . i'm awake i know the matrix is real
Absolutely the best song of the album!
ikr
yes!!!
Oh man you have to see it live, with those crazy visuals..wah!!
Hope i can offord it one day!
+Charlene Joan Sant I saw them live last month, the best concert I've ever seen!
chris your bass is giving me eargasms
They already have one live, he is called Morgan
+relative P I thought Chris played the synth for recordings: especially for the track 'Madness.' That's why he had that crazy bass concocted. Matt plays the keyboard for some songs (and piano for others, 'Starlight' and 'Mercy' to name but two)...
it's a very good song but i personly prefer Mercy
They've had that since the Black Holes & Revelations tour.
Quintessential Muse here ladies & gentlemen.
And oh boy how i love it
Burntoastman31 well said, now is there anybody else who still claims Muse to deviate from their genre in this album? =)

First Town Videos OH MY GOD IM DYING XD
callum barton most of the lyrics r missing if u actually watched it
FirstTownVideos took me a min to get that one lmao
Congrats to Muse for winning a Grammy for rock album of the year. Well deserved.
Showbiz: "Controlling my feelings for too long"
The Handler: "I won't let you control my feelings anymore"
Hysteria: "Give me your heart and your soul"
Dead Inside: "Do you have no soul? It's like it died, long ago"
United States Of Eurasia/Collateral Damage: "Must we do as we're told?"
The Handler: "And I will never do as I am told"
Unnatural Selection: "I want the truth"
Reapers: "I don't think I can handle the truth"
Franco I have the most negative hypothesis: It means the end of Muse. Every song of the last albums now have answers in this one. So why would the story go on? And with an "Amen" at the end of the album...
Mr.DOO nah. In an interview recently they said they are going on at least for another 10 years
Franco Map of the Problematique: When will this loneliness be over?
Aftermath: "Now and forever, the loneliness has gone"
OptimisticDeath I forgot to say ; I didn't mean it. If I did, I would have to kill you all (wait, what?).
OptimisticDeath Oh fucking hell! I love your name!
Simply... THE BEST.
***** Wow! te gusta MUSE, muy bien :)

Sounds like Jake the dog from A Dogs Life, every time he gets a bone.
Simply the best~

Sounds almost like all of Absolution merged into 1 song with the dark feel and heavy riffs, can't wait for the rest of the album now
Second half isn't as good as the first. Defector's perfect, rest disappointed me.
Aeterna Umbra How have people listened to the whole album already?
Leaked.
mattbellamymate yeah, its been leaked. and Aeterna Umbra's mostly right about the rest of the album. There's a good heavy section in the globalist that doesn't pay off unfortunately.

No longer. Defector's great. After that is a bit meh.
Aeterna Umbra defectors out?
thats sick!
how do these get leaked?
Aeterna Umbra the globalist is great
I think we all need to take a moment to appreciate Chris' amazing bass work here. That little run of notes he does in the pre-chorus is fantastic.
Pretty much every song on this album has amazing baselines. The bluesy riffs in Psycho, the verses in Reapers, of course this song, Defector. Chris is one of the greatest bassists ever.
guitarandbass1995
The greatest rock bassist perhaps, there are some seriously good bassists out there.
Reapers I have to listen to again.
awarlock82 reapers has been my favorite so far
I agree :P
Telecaster Magician See, Mercy has been on repeat for me the past few days, I've definitely grown to love it since it first came out! I agree about the sampling on Psycho, although I do love the rest of the song aside from the sampling! I would say that this song and Reapers are my two favoruites so far though!

I beg to differ. For me it's: YOU WILL NEVER!!! OWN ME AGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYAAAYAAAAYa EUEUE eueueueauuuaaa
The bass.....the bass makes me adore this song even more 🤌
The bass gives me fucking goosebumps. And then Matt‘s voice kicking in... absolute perfection
The bass line during the chorus is so good that it should be illegal. ^^
The first few times I listened to this song it didn’t really click with me but when I noticed that bass line I was totally addicted. It’s a top 10 muse song for me pretty much just based on that.
yeah but it would not be sweater
Reapers and this song are the best of Drones album!!!

Yep. But you can't forget dead inside. That's beast
Keith Heggarty i ' ve already booked!!!;)
nice! you getting the cd/dvd edition?
Keith Heggarty yes of course...The limited edition!!!
huh... where did all the "New Muse" haters go?...
HalfAlive when the 301 view go out they'll be here. wait until tomorrow for: ''i want the real muse! they said it would be like the old songs!
especially showbiz elmaga791 This sounds exactly like old songs they can't complain anymore
Listen to the rest of the album and you'll understand. It peaks here.
Lol right?
HalfAlive Not so much to complain about. This one actually sounds like their old stuff.
Why am I only just hearing this?!
Been a fan of Muse for years, but this masterpiece just slipped me by.
Very powerful.
Agree. It slipped by me until today as I look deeper into the rabbit hole
Algorithm
Cheers!
everyone's talking about the bass
can we just take a moment and Appreciate How amazing the drumbeats are
Never will understand, why some songs of Muse have so few views. They all are true masterpieces

Muse has pretty deep lyrics son.
They saw past the matrix
They’ve been telling us for years. Don’t know wtf happened with the newest album but I’m going to guess it’s about trans humanism and that’s why I don’t like it.
How any one could give these guys a thumbs down blows my mind. Muse! Absolute legends and love the depth and meaning to your tunes. Mind blowingly amazing band on so many levels

+Simon Rivas Me too! Where did you see them?
+Margar K. Dallas, Tx last month. There is even video I recorded on my channel
+Simon Rivas I've always dug this song, but when I saw them live (Philadelphia, Wells Fargo), I lost my fucking mind, and have been re-listening to all of their albums.
They're seriously amazing, I saw them in Boston on the 25th and I was totally blown away. By far my favorite band
No doubt, I want to go back to Sunday so bad, but, I'll have to wait to see em' :c
MK Ultra inspired. Brilliantly done, Muse. 🙌
Yesterday I received my SQA exam results. I failed my Chemistry and Physics Higher exams as well as receiving a below expected mark in my English exam, but chemical engineering always seemed like my dream job. Oh my god, it's so good live, saw them yesterday in Manchester and there was like a translucent screen and there was a hand controlling Chris, and another controlling Matt I think (where I was sitting I could only see Chris) using strings like a puppet, it was amazing.
Hi again! I read you comments and you remember me the two dates that I went :') I can feel your emotion in every comment haha
Yeah, the visuals in this song are awesome, I loved the Isolated System intro and then the humanoid controlling Matt and Chris and then the band defeats the Handler, it was one of the best things in the concert :D
Enrique Shrinking Yeah, it was absolutely phenomenal ^-^
You are so bloody lucky!! I sadly am broke & even if I wasn't broke, I have no way of getting to one of their concerts, that is if they were to ever come to North Carolina that is, lol One day though, I am going to go to one ( or more xD ) of their concerts!! & *maybe* even meet them one day!! :D :D
ThatOneAwkwardGirl I hope you get to go to one of their concerts one day, the experience is amazing and I can assure you that you won't be disappointed. I'd also love to meet them one day but I know I'll probably end up fangirling too much and stuttering and whatnot ahaha
Chloe Boulter Awe, thank you!! Hopefully we get to meet them one day :D :D I already stutter a lot, so I will probably do it even more if I were to meet them, lmao
This mix of hard sound and this extremely high voice gets me every time. Goosebumps.
I saw them live last night at the O2, they're THE BEST live band i have ever seen
Saw them at the o2 with my brother yesterday, phenomenal stuff! Even better than their Download set last year!
The Handler really hits the nail on the head of what musicians and celebs are told to say n do to keep the sheep asleep
2:18 - 4:04 fuckin eargasm, especially the drums 🤤👌🏻
Watching Chris n Matt play the guitar strings like that was so hypnotic💗💗
Well, that is what the song is about 😂
Oh my that guitar riff, omg the chills!
My all time favourite track!
The symbolism in this one...
Whenever they unleash Chris and his bass powers to carry the song they churn out a real Banger. All hail the bass boss \m/
This song really does something to me. I love it.
Kara W
maybe you are being hypnotized?
Now imagine that happening to me with every song Muse have ever released.
Since the day I first heard this song to now. The lyrics, the meaning, the bass, the guitar riffs, the drums...this just has it all. I can never get sick of the solo near the end and the bass is so hypnotic. God I love this song.
Absolutely amazing song
I used to chat to Matt on Muse messenger back in 2004 lol

Love this song. Could be my favourite Muse track.
I would probably die if I heard this live
its INCREDIBLE
I saw them live on the drones tour and i am not exaggerating when i say it changed my life. I go to LOTS of concerts, but had never seen such a visual experience and I've seen rammstein, manson, and rob zombie. The handler had giant hands with strings controlling the band members. Every time i hear this song, EVERY TIME, I picture those giant hands flailing around. I will never forget that concert
It was INSANE live. The handler was manipulating them on stage, pulling their strings. Search for a youtube cam of it, it was incredibly done
What. A. Fucking. Brilliant. Masterpiece!
