- In January 2019, 30-year-old Ashley Treseder dived off a pier at Shoal Bay in NSW, broke his neck, and became a C4 tetraplegic. After six months of rehabilitation, Ash is starting from scratch in his new home with the support of family and friends.

My wife was such a strong independent person. When she got cancer. She withered away but I always saw her as beautiful as the day I met her. One day I was picking her up from our bed to put her in our bathtub. With tears in her eyes she turned to me and said thank you. I was totally confused. I didn’t understand why she would thank me. I thought I understood why she was sad. So I asked her. Thank you for what??? She replied for not leaving and staying with me. I replied with the only thing I thought which was, where would I go? Where would I be without you. I never understood why she said that at the time. But years later I see things like this. To me there was no option to not be there. I couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else. I would be by her side no matter what happened. I miss her. She was the kindest person I ever met. It was my honor to take care of her. I only wish I could have had more time to take care of her. I wish I could pick her up again. Hold her. Talk to her. Life is to short. Tell your loved ones how you feel about them.
Your comment really touched my heart. Everyone should be so fortunate to love unconditionally. You are a good man and from what you described, you had a wonderful wife.
True love right there, you both were blessed to have each other. God Bless.
May your wife R.I.P & May God Bless You always
😢
You sound like an awesome human. Big hugs
I teared up ready your comment. Really touched me. Thanks for sharing something so difficult😊🥺 May she rest is peace
Getting seriously hurt or getting sick with a serious Illness really shows you who the real friends are.
Even with a minor knee injury some people avoid you, because they are afraid you could ask for help.
@@barrylyndon80 like literally i got my acl fully torn and legit got to know who would actually care about me enough to help me out with basic stuff
i was even scared of asking for help cause i have always been "oh so independent" and I'm just scared they would have to help me and just leave me if they have to do too much work idk maybe i don't wanna know who my "real" friends are
it's so painful when you are left with barely any support or friends because of something like this. it happens.
"why didn't you help me when I asked you for help?"
"I knew you'd be fine"
"I wasn't fine"
"you're fine now"
This was how it went with my family. And they ask me for help a lot.
Oh FK off… I was paralyzed for a year with a spinal injury…
It doesn’t show me who was a true friend of not, what it showed me is that not everyone is capable of doing certain things in life, and that’s totally OK, that I have no place to judge those who aren’t capable of doing things I may need when I need them… that they have their own things going on in life and might not be able to handle it, or perhaps trauma in the past, or maybe they’re afraid…
Regardless, if things like this make you judge others because of where you’re at rather than open your eyes to everyone else’s realities in life, you’re a selfish, narcissistic, piece of SHT.
There’s a young gentleman who was a med student after a car accident had the same injury. He finished his medical school, he is a doctor now.
I’m a T4 paraplegic. Paralyzed from my chest. It’s been 18 yrs. I hope for you to know that your injury doesn’t define who you are. And that life can be so full, rich and exciting. Stay positive!!

@Texas_Raised_ Texas _Made She's a garbage human.
Texas_Raised_ Texas Made When you make the decision to spend the rest of your life with someone, you’re committing to _“... for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.”_ the moment you say “yes”.
People and especially women, have lost touch with the true core values of marriage.
The social acceptance, of “keeping it real”, does nothing more but to make people irresponsible, weak and above all selfish.
@Texas_Raised_ Texas _Made I keep my commitments. That's not how boundaries work. We set boundaries in advance, not after the fact. So yeah, the day someone comes home after an event like this, when they are the most vulnerable, when they need you most, to leave them and to make the situation all about you, that makes you absolute trash. There's no humanity in an action like that.
Not referring to his ex but this statement is very true
So very true people just disappear leave you on your own
When i got leukemia, my relationship didn't last long either, my friends stopped calling me, and suddenly, i was all alone. I had lucky with my mom though, even though she hadn't a driver license, she always managed to be there by my side every single day. She passed away almost two years ago and it's been very hard for me since then. But i try to move on, step by step, day by day...

Hang in there Ash - my younger sister has been paralyzed her entire life (birth injury). Never a "why me". She lives on her own in NYC. Doctors told us she wouldn't live past 16 - now at 68 she is still going strong. Love and blessings from Florida And God Bless your mum.
God bless that mother. Husband left her while pregnant. Lost oldest son in a wreck at just 20 years old. Then almost loses her other...never once heard the “why me?”

Right? She's incredible and she raised incredible children.
I'd definitely ask "why me?" Those are terrible circumstances.

almost as bad as his fiancee leaving him after his injury...what a pathetic person that girl was hes WAY better without her.
Heartbreaking his fiancée left him so shortly after. I just want to give him a big hug. I know he will find the right girl someday soon!
She actually stayed with him for several months while he was in rehab. It wasn't until he came home that she broke up with him.
Yea but months for your so called future wifely ain't nothing..... Or so they say.
tswaw15 I give her credit for being able to admit she couldn’t handle his disability. Better to be honest than to hang in there and be resentful. I hope she has no guilt for her decision.
chris Barnett it has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with attitude
Everyone is different and everyone has different goals and dreams. I’m sure all of us would love to say we would stand by someone we love if they went through something like this but we have no idea what that’s like.
I don’t agree with his ex fiancé but that’s life
It is brutal and unfair but we all have to make our own way and live with our choices.
chris Barnett - Most young men who are good looking would never even conceive of dating a woman of character who has a severely disabled body. I’m going to guess you don’t even know anyone who has pursued or continued a relationship pre marriage with a disabled woman. Ashley is an amazing man and deserves a woman who is his equal and loves him as he is. He has been forced in life’s pressure cooker at an early age and is an inspiration to those who are disabled, but more importantly is a great asset to all people.

Ashley, I suffered a severe spinal injury and a deforming arm injury the same day. I am able to walk now after a long fight. I understand your grief and feeling the losses. One thing I'm grateful for, is the dramatic change in my heart. I'm a better person since my accident. Appreciate more, love more, more compassionate, empathetic, giving, understanding...so much more appreciative of everything. Would I change my injuries, No. Because I love me better now. Your making amazing progress! Keep pushing.
With all due respect your spinal chord injury was not that severe. You can walk. That's like saying others with the same tyoe of injury as your severe injury just weren't trying hard enough. And that's not true. I spent 6 months in a hospital rehab setting. If i had actually been able to walk out the doors i would've. But i couldn't. And my injury is permanent. Same as most of us SCI peeps. We will never be strong enough to walk. And i don't mean mentally. It's not even strength. My legs move. I can pivot. But the messages from my brain travel down the spinal cord. Since my cord has been permanently dsmaged there is no strengthening involved. The spinal cord is a nerve.
You can't do anything physically to make a nerve stronger. I hope you take this message to heart. And think about your what words you can use to better explain your injury for i am convinced it was never a spinal cord injury. You were lucky.
You jump out a 3 story house trying to keep from burning to death n tell me what it does to your back. I already had damage, I hit so hard even the tissue around my spinal cord was destroyed. U think I walked over night? N when I was able, was told it only temporary. And it is. Because of the damage to my entire back, from neck to L2, it's all deteriorated. I'm ready to go back to assistance. Only vertebrate salvaged was L1. The nerve damage is crippling, my kids dress my feet and help put my pants on my legs. But, u didnt know that b4 u judged me. No one can be positive, u gotta see the negative in everyones comments when it wasnt intended at all. Everyone offended...but your implying I was being rude is damn offensive.
@@michelleparadis7284 a spinal cord injury has very little or nothing to do with your back. Your back is a bone. I broke my neck at C5/6 so my injury is quite high. When i broke my neck bone it punctured my spinal cord. Hence even tho my injury is considered incomplete - i will still never walk. Ever. And that's not because i'm not strong or i gave up. The outcome would be the same no matter what i did.
@@denisepaulsenful didnt say it was. But when u smash your vertebrates so hard against your spinal cord from the impact of a 30 foot fall, it damages your spinal cord. Dont tell me My injuries....we good???
@@denisepaulsenful did I ever ever insinuate anyone didnt try? Or was lazy? Nope! Read into what u want. Your negativity is a downer....try seeing the positive for a bit....might change your shitty attitude.

I became a paraplegic at the age of 18, I turned 19 in ICU on life support in a coma. It has been 31 years and I can honestly say I’ve had a great life. Attitude is everything when something like this happens. I live independently and I do almost everything I did before. I may have to do things differently but I usually figure out a way to do the things I love. Honestly the toughest thing has been dealing with people that don’t know me. It’s the looks/stares and sometimes the words they will say to you. I’ve learned to just ignore it and show people I’m just like them, I just use a chair to get around.
Thankyou for sharing your amazing! I’m paraplegic about 1.5 years out from injury I’m 19yrs now and this is really fuckin tough idk how you do it 🙌

Basse - hello handsome 😍😍😍
True love doesn’t often happen in the exuberance and beauty of youth. True love is formed through life’s trials and tribulations and growing together. You absolutely witness true love on this video watching Ashley’s mother and learning a bit about her story. The fiancé is only a side note to his life.
I met my bf after he lost his leg in a accident aged 30 .. hes now 38 .. hes amazing funny and sexy ...4 years together and still see no disability only strength and resilience
Truth!!
the truest-purest kind of love is extremely rare. Someone that you would devote your entire life, to basically become that persons 2nd skin, to live their life as your own. I don't know if I could do it. I think I could, but the person I would become isn't the person I am now. I would definitely need to mature and I would need to very quickly. . I hope I never have to make such a decision.
My SCI is C5/6 quadriplegic, I was told I’d never walk again and I’m paralyzed from the chest down. You truly are an inspiration to me. I really don’t know how to describe it. You have a great personality and your outlook on life is great. You have a wonderful mom that is always there for you. You have a wonderful group friends that have never left your life. I honestly don’t know where I’d be at if it wasn’t for my family. Just watching this video took like 20 pounds of bricks off my chest. Like I said I don’t know how to describe it but you truly are an inspiration to me. You should look up Project Walk. I think you’d really benefit from that. Keep that positive feeling you have and there’s no doubt you’ll make it far in their world.

I love you Amber with your sexy self
People keep craping on the fiance, though I wouldn't leave. It is probably better that she left rather than have things go south later on. Imagine if she stayed, was his primary care provider, and then left. That happens a lot, yes it's still a bad situation but at least he is learning to do things by himself and now when he finds the right person they will already see and know what challenges he needs help with and what he can do solo. I deal with a chronic invisible illness and my husband and I while dating went through the rough part of being a caregiver. We have worked together and with help so now we have good day tasks and bad day tasks. For example on a good day I am pretty self-sufficient, I need help with certain tasks but very minimal. On a bad day it's hard for me to get up to use the restroom. Now he is in the military and we have been setting things up for me to do things on my own on bad days as well as good days.
I agree Amber. Also we are not privy to how the relationship was going before this happened. Just because they were engaged does not automatically mean a great relationship...and hey...people handle things differently. We shouldn't bag her too much
Ive heard of and experienced healing while reading the Bible out loud so definately do that every day. I had neck pain so bad I could only sleep on my back and it vanished while I was reading the Bible out loud. I felt so much stronger my bones , joints and every thing. You can look up healing scriptures on utube or maybe all the Bible is healing I don't know. 🤗
The story is so motivational. What I really really admire about him is that he may not be the most loud and outspoken individual in this video, but he’s got such a quiet confidence. And many people out there need to know that it’s OK to have that quiet confidence. I just know in my heart that he is going to do some pretty spectacular things. And this is just the first step. I have cerebral palsy myself. And I’ve learned that the biggest limitation in your life is you, yourself. He doesn’t have that limitation. At least not all the time. I really really admire him. You got this!!
Thank you Marina. That means alot! Never give up 🙏🏼💪🏽
Is that why people kill themselves? To remove the biggest limitation?

Never give up.
I started watching this story feeling absolutely devastated for you, by the end I was thinking you’ve got this! You’re totally smashing it!!! Just proves that nothing should stop you from achieving great things in life.
If he doesn’t have nerve pain he will be ok, honestly.
When they took me off pain meds in the hospital in rehab I noticed a little pain in my left knee. That pain was tolerable for about 15 years although it was getting much worse and spreading. After that point as the pain progressed I was no longer able to exercise or even sit for a few hours at a time. It’s 24/7 pain that is torture and hits all over my hips and especially thighs and knee. It can be so severe that i am hospitalized. I can no longer go out and it has taken a toll on my body which causes other problems because of the stresses.
Many people with spinal cord injuries don’t have this severe chronic neuropathic pain and they can lead decent lives and stay active. If that’s the case here then I wholeheartedly believe he will do fine. It’s by no means a easy injury to live with with or without pain, but without the pain a decent life is absolutely possible.
Best of luck.
You are 100 percent right, nerve pain is so debilitating 🥲
It’s been a year since you posted and I’m wondering how you are. I’ve been in pretty severe sciatic pain for 1+ yr now. (History of back and sciatic injury and surgeries but I had 2 wonderful, minimal pain years until a year ago.) You’re right, this nerve pain is horrendous. I’m mostly home bound, on meds that get less and less effective over weeks and months. I’m trying 1 more thing before doing a spinal cord stim trial. Have you been diagnosed with CRPS? It sounds like it with the spreading pain you’ve experienced. Please know I’m thinking of you and understand your pain.
Go Ashley! You are such a bad ass! Your toughness mentally and physical is awesome! Wishing you all the greatest!!

She is the best! She also has a beautiful voice, sings, and is on daily radio programs around the U.S. and the World.
Biggest heart in the World, and spreads God's love and the message of Salvation wherever she goes or you hear her voice.
Would be awesome if they could strike up a friendship, even if only over Skype of ZOOM, as I didn't hear anything about God, our faith in Him, spirituality, Heaven, Scripture, Church, etc.
Not judging, lest we be judged by the same mete and meter (measurements, same yard stick, if you will).
Stay safe, from your eternal sister in Christ somewhere near Seattle and around the World, ok?
Comment back, ok?

Ashley, you have a life to get out and live and you have a very special lady , your mum, whose got your back. Take care matey, xxxx
What a beautiful relationship between mother and son.. She loves him so much so unconditionally 💗 ❤ 💕
The determination in this man's life is out of this world. Im proud of him. It wouldn't surprise me if he was able to walk in the future. Anything is possible
A friend of mine, close friend of my brother, a quadriplegic since he had polio at age 13, died recently at age 79. He was married to his second wife and had grown children. He controlled a huge, complicated wheelchair-type conveyance by blowing into a tube. He drew and painted-was a successful artist-by holding pens and brushes in his mouth. Used a computer. He was very, very seriously injured but with the physical help of others and the strength of his own personality , he lead a really great life. A man like you, with a zest for life, will too.
I hope I get a chance to meet this guy someday! I've never met a guy with the same name as me let alone one is also disabled like myself.
Ashley Parkhurst you could go to the Attitude website and contact them directly. I’m sure he’d love to meet you too.
Janet Donald as much as I would love to do that… I would be worried that he would think it was a little creepy! I’m not really sure what I would say either.
@@ashleyparkhurst5005 tell him your story and lift him up and let him lift you up...Your story is NOT creepy Ash...Its your story and I am sure he will embrace you Blessings sweetie ...I have a Ash too...they are beautiful souls
@@blessedbeyond2118 Yes, but what am I supposed to say… Hi my name is Ashley too, I think your ex-fiancé is really stupid. It's humbling that you're able to admit that you were vein before your accident. And oh by the way I think you're super cute! So what do you think about getting to know each other. All of that just sounds really corny!
I found him on Facebook and sent him a message. So we’ll see if he says anything.
Please make a channel, you have a story that just pulls you right in. I love your mom and your amazing friends. You are still here to motivate and help people all around the world! I can’t wait to see how that wheelchair doesn’t hold you back 🤩❤️
Thank you Patty. Am looking into it. Otherwise you can follow my progress on instagram @ashtheflash 🙏💙
@@ashleytreseder9491 Hi Ashley, I want you to know that life is precious. You were put onto this world for a purpose and one day you will find out why. Don't let the wheelchair stop you from living life to it's fullest. Explore and find new ways to do things. Enjoy the little things in life, one day you will find yourself sitting back reminiscing. Never stop smiling 🙂 Sending you love from Ontario, Canada ❤ 🙏 💙
What a wonderful man, it warms my heart when I hear a young man say beautiful words about their Mums. He would probably never think he would experience both sides of the spectrum of disability. But also what an asset to the disability sector. An amazing spirit, an amazing man
What an inspirational story Ashley! I will be following your progress to celebrate your recovery with you here!
I think about his struggle and I find the strength in myself.
God bless this mother and her 2 sons .... I believe Ash is so strong and so resilient because he’s doing this for his brother. ❤️
100% I think of him constantly 💙🙏🏼
This is so unfair. What a wonderful mom you have. ❤ After my dad died when I was 5 my mom gave me away to her sister's family and my brother to her friend's family so that she could start her new life with her new husband. Our mom lived far away from us and we got to see her only once a year till we were adults. We weren't treated well by the people who brought us up but we had no choice than to bear everything and do the best we could. I supported my mom financially and was there for her but now I've decided not to see her anymore. After seeing your mom I'm so glad that you've her and her love. God bless you. Hope you'll be able to walk again someday.🍀
This guy has the most amazing support system. His mother is awesome. At the end when he spoke about how much she means to him, I was in tears. Very inspirational story.
Glad for you that you are in a place with such support. I live in the US and am my mother's carer. Wiped out every bit of savings any of us had.
24:30 "Mum's mum... Yeah, how do you say it? Mum's... I've always said it, never been afraid of, you know, being a mama's boy. She's beautiful. Mums my world. The most generous and kind, selfless person I've ever met in my life.
She only tells me these things now that I'm older. But she would go years without buying a single item of clothing for herself. Just to give me and my brother everything that we ever needed. You know, LOVE MUM 😍👍"
I totally agree. My mom is the same. She now has my kids for short term while I am going through debilitating mental illness. You are so strong and inspirational! Stay strong and continue to be an inspiration. Which is only natural. "Hit the ground running" is really what I see. Best of luck and well wishes to you and your friends and family.

Keep going strong mate your doing well and lucky to have such wonderful people around you.
What an inspirational bloke you are Ash. All the best for the future to you, your lovely mum and your friends.
Makes you appreciate the family and friends that stick with ya. When I had leukaemia my school friends didn’t drop me, they made sure I was up to date on all the things and my family was in hospital every single day. Takes a village and I’m thankful they all stayed so close.
Hope you have recovered well mate 🙏🏽
What fool would give a thumbs down, it just astounds me. What a wonderful story on a wonderful man, I wish you so much love and happiness in life !!! xox
I'ma Vegemite I think because they are sad. Well hoping that is that is why they do it.
Thank you so much 🙏 💙
It's great to see how much support you have!
The positivity that Ashley and his mum has is absolutely inspiring. Thank you so much for sure his story.....
To anyone suffering, May God bless you and your journey. May all beings be at peace and find love. ❤️
Never ever dive into water unless you know that there’s no obstacles and it’s deep enough!
I recently broke my c7 by jumping head first into water. Seriously, you have to be careful. I hope many people see this video and take these things seriously. I got lucky, I’ll make a 100% recovery
Yes they always say feet first!
What an incredible and inspirational young man, I'm so impressed. I wish him every blessing and happiness in the world :)
You're turning a tragedy into a triumph! I have so much admiration for your strength to build a new life for yourself, and to do it with such grace.
You have such a strong mum and people that love you around you.
Sending my love to you.
Stay strong Ashley! Wishing the best for you!
What an amazing story. Such courage and bravery. Love his attitude, he's the epitome of optimism.
Really happy with how many supportive people he has around him - he has such a positive outlook on life considering everything he’s been through. I wish him nothing but the best. Such an awesome mum he has too 😊
What an absolutely beautiful man & mom. Sorry this tragedy happened to you. But you got this & you'll continue to do amazing things.
He is so cute, I hope he finds a good girl
He will
🙏🏼🤞 💙
YES HE WILL. HIS HEART HASNT CHANGED REGARDLESS OF THE ACCIDENT. PRAYING FOR A LOVE BEYOND ALL MEASURES FOR HIM. GOD WILL LEAD THE WAY JUST WATCH AND SEE. ❤💞🙏
@@J.A.7 thank you so much 🙏🏼
He definitely will. Such a cutie and such good vibes all around.
You're an inspiration Ashley. I'm happy you're not giving up. I'm a paraplegic myself so I know how hard the struggle can be. I was injured in a car accident in 2007. It's been 12 almost 13 years now and sometimes it's hard but we just have to keep going and never give up.
Wow. So inspiring. To have such a big change in life, I'm so happy to see he's doing better and still continuing to improve everyday.
You are amazing Ash! Please don’t give up! You give everyone with different abilities a view of how life can go on and you can still have a full life. Bless you and I wish you well!
You’re amazing Ash,
It must be a difficult process to go through so many changes... I recently broke it off with my fiancé of 3 yrs and it’s been a life changing moment of personal growth, but it can be done right!
Keep on fighting the good fight and remember that God doesn’t give you more than you can take... this will lead you to greater things you thought impossible!
Greetings from TEXAS ❤️
It's heartbreaking that his fiance left him. I'm just glad that he learned now that she wouldn't have lasted through the part of the vow that says "through sickness and in health".
He'll find his Queen one day and she'll show him a love that he's never known.💜
Women always leave at the first sign of trouble, they are evil creatures
I hope his fiancée didn’t feel pressure to be his main carer as that is a full-time job.
Honestly, I think he understood her. He stated that he was vain before, perhaps he thought he would have reacted the same way?
Awwww.. you totally hit my heart with talking about your mum HOW PRECIOUS.. MUCH LOVE ..
What a fantastic young man! Momma, you did a great job!
You are an inspiration!
Regardless of the injuries, you truly are a good soul at heart! I wish nothing but love to you sir!
What an amazing man he is and so much love from his darling mum and friends and family. What an inspiration he will be for other rehab injuries and actually inspiring for people suffering from depression like me and learning to recover from 2year ankle injury. No doubt about having love and support surrounding you helps so much and of course our beloved animals.xo Kia Kaha from New Zealand
I follow another channel by Eirin Cecilie, and her accident was almost identical to yours. You are both beautiful souls. I believe people like you, with your wonderful personalities, will never be alone in life, because others are naturally drawn to you. Take care mate!
Thank you so much. I'm blessed to say I've now found the one 🙏🏽💙

Hi Ashley, I am so sorry this has happened to you. My son has duchenne muscular dystrophy and has slowly lost his ability to do anything it is definitely hard. He is now 19 and can only use his hands a little. I wish you the very best💚
Thank you. All the best wishes in the world for your son 🙏🏼
Wow wow wow. I don't normally comment on things but wow. To your mum, friends, family, carers and you. I feel blessed to of watched this. To see what an amazing man you are gives me hope. Watching society today and our future generations sometimes leaves me sad and anxious. Then I watch you. I will show my son this vid when he gets home from school. Actually we will all watch as a family. I'm so sorry about your brother. I'm sorry about your relationship too. I'm just blown away by you. Thank you. You will help so many people and anyone watching this video will just come away feeling inspired. Never stop being you...cos you are wonderful!
