ADI-2/4 Pro SE: Digital Phono Preamp (RIAA Mode) Explained

- RME’s ADI-2/4 Pro SE comes with an unusual digital RIAA mode, removing the need to use an external phono preamp in front of the ADI-2/4’s line inputs. This video explains in detail how this new mode is designed, operates and measures.
This video includes measurements from Audio Science Review, www.audiosciencereview.com

Danke an RME für soviel Herzblut in die Produkte und dem verbesserten Hörvergnügen als Endverbraucher
Excellent, no vinyl has been harmed :-)
Way too precious ;)
THIS IS THE STUFF I LIKE!!!
:)
Fantastisch!👍 Is there any chance the mono bass feature and subsonic filter (the same can be achieved with the parametric eq of course, but a specific option in the settings would be even better
😁) could make it also to the non SE adi-2 pro?
Is it possible to use RIAA eq on the outputs as well or is dedicated for input only? I am asking because I cut vinyl records.
I have one question: i have 4-5 pieces of analog processors and lm about to do some “analog mastering” , i have an 802fs and my question is.. do i need extra converters to route my analog loop? Aren’t the rme802fs converters good enough? How much of a difference will i sacrifice or gain? My monitors are ampnhions two18 and great acoustics! If i need them which one suits my scenario??
I have XLR (Pin 1, 3 and Shield are connected to Ground) to RCA laying around. Is that also possible, or do I need to use the TRS sockets for the best SNR?
So, if i want to use the ADI 2/4 pro se, in RIAA Mode as a phono preamp, just for listening to records. I connect my turntable to the ADI 2/4, then to my computer, or to my ADI 2 DAC fs, or directly to my power amp? What is a possible chain?
The one million dollar question. And RME doesn’t answer it.
I got one earlier this year, its incredible.
, I want to know the song used in the background. Does anybody know it?
I wish there was more video information on the 2/4 pro se.
Can this record phono with RIAA off (flat recording)?
4.4mm balanced headphone out is fully balanced? Or it is there just for convenience? Thx
*Have also the older SDI Pro the RIAA filter?* Or is this new?
This is a new feature, added to the ADI-2/4 :)
Is there any major difference between this dac and the ADI-2 Pro FS R, I am on the on the verge to buy one, but I don't understand where the difference is between these two?
What about the MC support, which is the preferred cartridge for highend turntables?
We’ll ask him :)
Well, in this case I don‘t expect any answer 🤣
I wonder if it's an indirect way of saying RME don't believe in MC 😅
No, it means that RME simply doesn‘t care about legitimate customer requests…
Well, MC requires different input resistance/impedance so my guess would be this is not so easily done on the same input channels 🧐
What about Moving Coil cartridges?
wished they were rack mountable with rm19 ii rack wings.😢
I already have the adi 2 pro do I need the se? Yesssssssssssss
Wow ! Absolutely interesting
I'm struggling with my modified Thorens TD160 with a Nagaoka MP-110 cartridge (given for 5mV Output), and plugged into built-in 1988 Accuphase E-305 Phono Preamp, I have a HUGE difference in the gain when I switch from my Converters (on the Balanced Line input of the Accuphase) or my CD Input of the Accuphase vs the AD Mode (Phono) of the Accuphase, like I have to push the Volume twice louder (which mostly results more or less 75% Volume of the Accuphase) to actually kind of reach the same Speaker Output level when I'm listening to my music quite loudly (on fairly low sensitivity - ~85dB/w/m - ATC SCM40's MkI speakers)...Do you think your solution has enough gain to handle this difference on my system ?
Regards,
Keep on bringing killer solutions.
It sure has :) You can see the variable gain settings in the video :)
@@RMEAudio Thanks again guys !
Just show us how to digitalize our vinyl in the best way using the ADI-2/4 Pro SE.
please for next version of Adi 2 dac add : AVB input, XLR AES/EBU input , trigger out and subwoofer out .🙏🙏🙋♂️
Thanks for the feedback. We’ll take it into consideration :)
Subwoofer Out 👍👍👍
@@zanza_the_rewolverine 👍
@@zanza_the_rewolverine I'm just using the RCA out for my sub, while the active speakers are driven by the XLR outs. Or you could use a sub with either option-in and same thing out for the other speakers.
Like polishing a turd. Vinyl is crap, why bother?
Why bother with what, exactly?
@@NotFound-ll5kc trying to make vinyl sound good. Just bin it and get a digital high quality reproduction produced from the master recording.
@@andyracksthecams And what if a piece of vinyl contains the only copy of that recording?
@@NotFound-ll5kc well that is very different of course. It is worth it's weight in gold and more. What I am saying is as much as I like analogue, Guitar Amps, Telemetry, Recording Pre Amps etc there are certain things that benefit from Digital techniques and Media is the number 1. Why use a disc which creates self noise, a physical pickup device which is ancient technology, which damages the surface of the vinyl on every pass coupled with a need for isolation of the whole arrangement to reduce low frequency rumble. I like the vibe of vinyl. I like Reel To Reels. I binned them both when I finally let go as they are crap.
@@andyracksthecams Yes, technically inferior in nearly every way. I just wanted to stress that there are legit use cases for vinyl transfer.
Vinyl is the only medium we have that can potentially still play music in a post-apocalyptic, un-electrified world, so it's not entirely terrible to keep them around.
