  • Hello everyone, this is a drunk purchase of mine from before Christmas. This is a Lenovo Thinkcentre Mini office pc and we are gonna see what we can emulate on it using Batocera.
    The specs are as follows:
    Intel i3 4150T
    4gb DDR3 1666mhz RAM
    240gb Netac SSD.
    #batocera #retrogaming #ps2 #snes #lenovo #emulation

I worked for a company that used these Lenovo mini PCs. I picked up a bunch before I quit. I have a lot of them. Batocera is great for them. I got the i7 models with 8 to 16 GB of RAM. They are great little boxes for so cheap. I got some of mine for $5 USD.

Do you find an i7 makes the fans noisy with these 1L PCs compared with say an i5?

On one hand, cool. If you're happy with it that's all the matters. On the other, most of the games featured here aren't really useful benchmarks for any of the represented systems. Personally, I've gone with an I7 Dell pc and threw the cheapest discrete graphics card I could find as well as a cheap 16gb ddr3 ram upgrade to give me enough overhead to do saturn, gc and wii. I've outright replaced windows with batocera. The upgrades are a little overkill but I wanted a cheap project and place to backup my library.

yeah i aint got windows on that drive. linux is so much more lightweight so i feel it helps performance

Did you try Dolphin with GCN and Wii games? What resolution did you run these at? I've been looking to build a retro arcade cabinet based around a 2nd hand mini office PC. 20 pounds for this much nostalgia is a great drunk purchase.

I'll be honest, i havent really messed around with anything advanced. I just put batocera on an ssd, the games i wanted to play and then played them

I havent tried Wii just because i'm a bit of a novice with batocera and emulating anything other than handhelds. My concern with Wii is the controller and motion stuff.

@@Cellis2444 no worries. Wii is a bit crazy to remap to a traditional dual analog type controller. But not impossible depending on the game. Hope you enjoy it. Cool video BTW.

I've tried plenty more on a 4130 non-T, PSP was pretty darn amazing, so was Dreamcast. Gamecube was surprisingly good. Wii - everything I've tried worked well (which is one game, as I couldn't be bothered with controls). PS2 was stuck with light weight games, but honestly, it was more than I expected. You should try arcade, I was pretty darn conservative with it back then and mame 2003 romset worked as well as it can (you don't have sounds in Tekken in 2003 romset).
I've passed mine on though because of the size, but mostly because that Acer machine is powered by a bloody jet engine. Whoever thought that was a good design is a moron. I've changed the thermal paste and it was still louder than any other pc I've ever worked with (and I've worked with some loud late 90s early 2000s machines). What about that Lenovo, I'm on a prowl for a bedroom Batocera machine?

its really quiet which is good (except for an annoying beep on boot up). Depending on the budget I'd personally buy a mini pc off Ali Express on Amazon like one of my previous videos. Not only are the parts new with better performance but my own allows you to store an additional sata drive along side the nvme it comes with. Means you can still use it as a PC as well as a console. The lenovo doesnt have that space or facility for a 2nd drive.

@@Cellis2444 the budget is small, and I'm in a country without Amazon warehouses (meaning, shipping can easily be prohibitively expensive). Also, aliexpress blacklisted us. More and more often, my products don't arrive, and I don't remember when was the last time I got a refund. So, I have to buy local (or a grey import already on the market).
Annoying beep maybe can be turned off in bios, but that's something I can live with.
Thanks for your answer! I'll geek something out.

Regarding “this lenovo doesnt have space for a second drive”. You should be able to fit a second drive in there fine! Room to add a 2.5 inch ssd as a second drive.
