Woodturning - saving a sapele bowl from disaster

  • This woodturning project was a test from start to finish, a blank that was gifted to me, but too big for my band saw, yes I could have cut it by hand, but hey…..I’m lazy, sue me😉.
    A delicate mortice that let go after a slightly over aggressive cut, yes I probably should have used a tenon, but I wanted to preserve as much depth to the piece as I could….so that went well🤣
    But once all is said and done, it turned out rather nicely. Take a look and let me know what you think.
    Turned using my @axminster lathe and tools as well as @robertsorbyengland gouges. Finished with Yorkshire grit and @HampshireSheen

    Good recovery. If you keep the wall of the recess more like 1” you have fewer break out like that. Otherwise a good job.

      Yep, I knew it was close to the limit, which is fine……unless you don’t pay attention 😂
