  • This was a test for me to see how easy it would be to re-enter this kayak after a flip. If you own the Ascend H10 Hybrid kayak or the H12 you'll really want to invest in a Hand bilge pump or installing a small 12v marine electric bilge pump for it because this kayak is really hard to get water out after a flip, you'll need someones help or you'll have to swim it back to shore if you don't have one of these on or with you.

    I definitely love this video. Shows the importance of tethering the paddle, knowing how to flip the kayak to remove the most water & having a sump pump for all that water. ..

    Appreciate you taking one for the team to test the kayak. I loved your daughter's enthusiasm to get out on the water with you. I introduced my kids to fishing and paddling while they were young. My daughter is now a high school senior and solo fishes from a paddleboard if I am not able to go fishing with her.

      That’s awesome and makes my heart happy….as a ups driver in Washington state….I see too many youth who are really doing a whole lot of nothing….
      Tragic. It really shows later….they’ve got the worse mental health because of it….less wholesome coping mechanisms.

      I have the h12. Took it out earlier this summer in all kinds of winds and waves. No matter which way I took the waves wether it was straight on, at angle into the waves or with the wave hitting the sides I was not worried.

    I just asked this question today on another channel. How easy is it to flip over and get back in if you capsize? Now I find this random video. What a great little family. Really answered my question, and entertained the heck out of me.

    Have the same Kayak was on a river when I turned sharply in a current and it sunk the kayak in a matter of seconds. Wondering if they make float bags wide enough to fit the front of the bow to help prevent this as fishing my yak out was extremely difficult and i’m happy I was in shallow enough water

    I just got an h12 my dad has the h10, great to see such a stable kayak
    Also we settled on just 2 anchor cleats one as far as we could reach at the stern and the other as far as we could reach at the bow, works amazing for a third of the price and and 1/8 of the holes

    • @gettingoutdoors256
      @gettingoutdoors256  3 года назад +1

      Yes the pedal that I have is 9 feet and that seems like a pretty good length for it allowing you to dig into the water without sacrificing balance.

      This is a hybrid. Because of where and how you sit it's part Kayak and part Canoe. Starting out a SOT (sit on top) kayak is probably most forgiving as they're very, very stable. They also are easier to recover and get back in if flipped, since they are self bailing.

    • @gettingoutdoors256

      Ryan Bonikowske Just a piece of a yoga mat that I cut out and taped down for when Im changing out gear to reduces noise so I don’t scare away fish. I did have some that covered the floor as well where I was standing but it came out during this test. My sneakers were ripping the mats apart anyways so didn’t bother to but them back in afterwords

    • @gettingoutdoors256

      wordhog61 It’s a kayak canoe hybrid. Most people on a canoe of kayak that tip over lose their shit If it’s not strapped in or in dry bags. This kayak though is really stable but I am Installing an automatic bilge pump for just in case thanks
