Flipping my Ascend H10 Hybrid kayak

- This was a test for me to see how easy it would be to re-enter this kayak after a flip. If you own the Ascend H10 Hybrid kayak or the H12 you'll really want to invest in a Hand bilge pump or installing a small 12v marine electric bilge pump for it because this kayak is really hard to get water out after a flip, you'll need someones help or you'll have to swim it back to shore if you don't have one of these on or with you.
I definitely love this video. Shows the importance of tethering the paddle, knowing how to flip the kayak to remove the most water & having a sump pump for all that water. ..
and a good sense of humor...
Appreciate you taking one for the team to test the kayak. I loved your daughter's enthusiasm to get out on the water with you. I introduced my kids to fishing and paddling while they were young. My daughter is now a high school senior and solo fishes from a paddleboard if I am not able to go fishing with her.
That’s awesome and makes my heart happy….as a ups driver in Washington state….I see too many youth who are really doing a whole lot of nothing….
Tragic. It really shows later….they’ve got the worse mental health because of it….less wholesome coping mechanisms.
I havve the h-10 and I'm glad I watched this video! now I know how stable it really stable it actually is!
I have the h12. Took it out earlier this summer in all kinds of winds and waves. No matter which way I took the waves wether it was straight on, at angle into the waves or with the wave hitting the sides I was not worried.
Great vid, your wife’s commentary was awesome!
Great video! Glad to know that you really have to work to flip it! Thanks!
That was awesome seeing your daughter reel in a bass! My 10yr old is starting to get pretty good. It’s fun to see them get excited to fish.
Got a good laugh today thanks for the demonstration brother!
Good experiment, nice to see what happens when things go south. Thanks!!
Great video been looking at this h10 was wondering about floatation thanks made me tired and sore watching all the pumping
Glad i saw this, thank you
Great video. I guess it would be much harder to flip back over if it was rigged with a trolling motor and a 60lb battery. Now you’ve got me leaning back toward getting a Jon boat.
I just asked this question today on another channel. How easy is it to flip over and get back in if you capsize? Now I find this random video. What a great little family. Really answered my question, and entertained the heck out of me.
Best one liner by your wife when your stretched out on your back sinking, "...this is what failure looks like..." Lol
Have the same Kayak was on a river when I turned sharply in a current and it sunk the kayak in a matter of seconds. Wondering if they make float bags wide enough to fit the front of the bow to help prevent this as fishing my yak out was extremely difficult and i’m happy I was in shallow enough water
Thanks for this video! It was very helpful. Cute kid too!
Thank you very much!Appreciate you watching and for your comment 👍
I just got an h12 my dad has the h10, great to see such a stable kayak
Also we settled on just 2 anchor cleats one as far as we could reach at the stern and the other as far as we could reach at the bow, works amazing for a third of the price and and 1/8 of the holes
Good to know it won’t sink. I have to h12.
Thanks. Good to see a real test. Worst case
Thanks for doing this. Kudo's to the wife.
Oh no the boat went up allot more when you got off..... Thanks dear!!!! lmao
Great video. Shows it all.
I think an old coffee container would be more useful than that bilge pump😂
Man, I guess this is why sit on tops have so much marketshare.
A hose used to empty a fish tank would require a lot less energy
Good review!
Thank you! 👍
Look up the boy Scout procedure. No need for the pump unless the canoe is huge.
Those pumps are a joke haha. Keep a empty half gallon plastic jug with the bottom cut of in the kayak. Mine is tied off to the kayak with a short line and clip .
Why does everyone carry a pump? What happened to a milk jug cut in half. Lighter, more reliable and less awkward.
Yes the pump sucks big time I have now installed a electronic bilge pump that works much better. ruclips.net/video/4hr8_mTrNFA/видео.html
I like the tip radman! Thanks…installing tomorrow! 👍
Does the Ascend H10 need a longer-than-standard paddle?
Yes the pedal that I have is 9 feet and that seems like a pretty good length for it allowing you to dig into the water without sacrificing balance.
Deciding between the h10 or f10 ?
Why not get a sit on top kayak?
miamiwax I have one of those two 👍
Funny vlog and ur wife is hilarious....thats what failure looks like....lol...omg
How good is the rating on this kayak.
Definitely a funny video
Would you recommend as a first kayak?Debating on getting the FS10 or the H10!!!
This is a hybrid. Because of where and how you sit it's part Kayak and part Canoe. Starting out a SOT (sit on top) kayak is probably most forgiving as they're very, very stable. They also are easier to recover and get back in if flipped, since they are self bailing.
@@JFizoust I heard they weigh much more maybe double?
So this kayak has a hollow hull? Or no? Seemed pretty buoyant for a standard sit in kayak.
My dad has the it I have the h12, its not a hollow hull, it only has the 2 foam bow and stern triangles, pretty impressive buoyancy though
It isn't a standard sit-in kayak. These (H10 & H12) are hybrids.
What is the black mat in the middle?
Ryan Bonikowske Just a piece of a yoga mat that I cut out and taped down for when Im changing out gear to reduces noise so I don’t scare away fish. I did have some that covered the floor as well where I was standing but it came out during this test. My sneakers were ripping the mats apart anyways so didn’t bother to but them back in afterwords
@@gettingoutdoors256smart man! I use the same! I think we can safely say? Fisherman aren’t commonly too dedicated to yoga! Hahahha!
This is why I would never own a sit in kayak
Reported for explicit rear shotz
Can you stand up in this Kayak
pandy123 👍 Yes you can. It’s a little tipsy at first though. Takes some getting used too
No way I would own this. Not many carry a pump, the entire concept of how this is made is life threatening and you would lose most everything.
wordhog61 It’s a kayak canoe hybrid. Most people on a canoe of kayak that tip over lose their shit If it’s not strapped in or in dry bags. This kayak though is really stable but I am Installing an automatic bilge pump for just in case thanks
@@gettingoutdoors256 Check out this review, jump to about the 12 minute mark where he talks about bulk heads...

You’re maybe not for outdoor endeavors then…. This very scenario is common. You train for it…like this man did…and life goes on just swimmingly!
Pun intended. 😜 🛶
People need to understand these any designed for our of shape people. If your top heavy and shaped like a sack of shit you're gonna struggle. Have some self respect...
Russ Shackleford That’s just mean and uncalled for. Those that are hurting try to hurt others though. Maybe try doing some soul-searching and some self reflecting before lashing out for no apparent reason.
Oh and learn how to spell!
My 6’ 190lb friend loves his and my out of shape 5’10 180lb ass that can ruck miles around you loved it when I tried it
Wow! What a douche comment. Seems like a nice guy with a nice family. He’s right. You must be a miserable piece of shit to want to make such mean comments to a stranger. You’re not funny- just a dick. 😖
@@gettingoutdoors256 bro…I agree one hundred…you handled that well…
I’d personally remove his comment…it brings the channel down..
When you allow people like him to post a comment.
Dang man….you trash talk, AND can’t pick an original channel name? Leave it to the pros Chevy chase…
You’re a two bit troll that hides between personal pain and misery I’d suspect? Folks like you are usually abused..
