The fact that so many people are focusing on hiddleston (great guy!!!) Proves the point of the entire short film.
Edit: I fully love and support Tom as an actor and an all around incredible person. However, he said it jn his interview; this isn't his story. In a large group of strong women, the equally strong man is the one that is noticed.
I noticed that as well.
True but I’m Guessing that was intentional. He’s got a huge female fan base = lots of viewers.
that unlike regular people hollywood is full of racists and misogenists, we know
Avoloch no, that people focus in one man in a sea of strong women, but think what you want! :)
Yesssss
I loved that they were able to emphasize more than just the unrealistic expectations for women in the industry. They were also able to highlight the issues about diversity and just the generally awful way actresses can be treated especially when they're starting out.
Maybe they should start their own companies then instead of whining about how other people run theirs. It's not like they don't have the money.
Nyctohylophiliac actress' who are just starting out definitely don't have the money. Many are just scraping by, there's a big difference between a Hollywood actress and just a actress starting out.
Yeah, that's why I said that Hollywood actresses should get together and start a studio, and said absolutely nothing at all about actresses that are just starting out. New actresses starting out are not entitled to roles. They're offered roles that the people who EARNED the right to call the shots in the first place offer them. If Hollywood actresses want to change how things are done then they can do it themselves instead of whining about it as if they are powerless to change anything.
Nyctohylophiliac True, and I agree with you. If something isn't right, change it yourself. But making an award winning production company isn't a quick and simple task. The biggest ones are pretty much the ones that have been around for years and recently (not trying to stereo type here) they have all been run by men or woman who don't care about problems like this. And because those people are so successful no one questions what they do, they just let them do what they want with no questions asked (hence Harvey Winstein). And if you don't like it, fine, make one yourself, but it can take years to develop, at the start you might not see much in the way of profit or interest. So actors would rather go for the big ones were more people will see them and they'll get noticed more. Which is perfectly fine and a logical thing to do. So should all these actress' applying for these roles from big companies still suffer?
Suffer? What do you mean? These companies owe them nothing at all. They offer them opportunities that they can either exploit or not, it's up to them. If there's a better way of doing it that produces better results then a new studio that does that (they launch and die all the time) will grow rapidly. This all assumes of course that what you see in the video is representative of what actresses genuinely have to deal with, which is a point that I do not concede at all, especially the last part with the male taking the female role. The reverse is much more common nowadays.
I loved how this was done, and so many people's focus on Tom Hiddleston rather than the actresses just proves the point of this short.
cryangie True. But we can focus on both. I think it should be more about the messages. Tom Hiddleston is universally loved, as are these actresses. But if Hiddleston is more popular it doesnt have to be about his gender. His awesome personality for example. The real point I think is that people arent focusing enough on the actual intent behind the film, not not focusing on the actresses.
The thing is, Tom is always the most recognised and popular person even when he appears with other male actors. It's not about gender it's about the man we stan called Hiddleston.
If it was a different actor maybe it wouldnt be such a fuzz but since it's Tom...well he is just a blessing impossible to ignore
If it was a different actor, that’s not Hiddleston then people wouldn’t care as much.
Lily Lindsey and he's really, really fucking hot
The posters at the end tho🤣🤣🤣
Zahra Aliza it’s a little sad reading all the comments about Tom that really drive the point home, but it takes some guts to hear about this, play the part, and then allow those posters. Good for him.
But the acting ramp up and emotion changes they did to go from “I am reading for this part” straight into “are you seriously asking me this?” where amazing. Great job all around.
I mean, I'm fully on board for the message of this film, but I'm also fully on board for any of the films in the posters.
shane smith People should think more along the message yes. But Tom's just incredible, what can we do? Comment on both.
Oh I would watch any of those films, opening night, absolutely!
My thoughts in a random order:
1. Catherine Tate, I adore you,
2. That Cersei Lannister frown on Lena Heady's face is so intimidating, I would not have the courage to antagonize her EVER,
3. I didn't know Katie Leung was Scottish, it was so strange hearing Cho Chang with a Scottish accent, (EDIT: Ok, I got it she's always been Scottish, as I said in the comments I've only seen her once in a DUBBED version of HP and later when I still wasn't able to pick up the accent, because in learning a second language it takes some time before you can actually recognise accents)
4. Oh, hel-lo Tom Hiddleston, you're a blessing.
She had the accent in the films too
Ben Lambourne I first watched them dubbed when I was a kid and when I re-watched them in English I didn't know enough about accents yet to notice.
You've read my mind! This was so funny!
She's always been Scottish
Emily Copper Read my reply above
DOES CATHERINE EVEN AGE???
she ain't bovvered
Your comment is everything hhahaha
Does Tom even age??
@@mayaklingenberg808 yeah, like fine wine he does.
“LOOK AT MY FACE” hahahaha love Catherine!
Lauren Cooper jumped out
But am i bovvered
Trixie Calinawan I came to watch the video because Tom, but the moment I saw Catherine Tate I was like "Tom who?"
Can I ask to question
Bite me allien boy
Tardis, timelord, yeah!
Donna, human, No!
I'm here Thanks to Emma Watson and Honestly This Short is so Good, with a Powerful message. This kind of situations must change, We need to Evolve.
The writers seem detached from reality. Women and minorities are being cast in white or male roles left right and centre, yet they're crying about men being cast in women's roles? That literally NEVER happens.
Millionaires playing victims... powerful massage indeed :-)
The point the short film is making at the end is most roles are for men (white men), and thus the joke is they might as well cast a man in every role that was written for a woman.
In the 2017 top 100 grossing films women comprised 24% of sole protagonists, 37% of major characters, and 34% of all speaking characters. Overall, audiences were almost twice as likely to see male characters as female characters.

@Belinda Mcgregor
Are You saying that transwomen are not real women?
You are such transphobic TERF !
Tom Hiddleston is beautiful woman! You bigot.
jhjkhgjhfgjg jgjyfhdhbfjhg This is going to sound terribly cliche, money isn't happiness. Money is important and vital but if you feel as if you are mistreated in the work place there are better options. They are speaking up about this issue. And I agree, Tom Hiddleston would make a beautiful women.
I laughed because it's so absurd, then I cried because it's so real
I think I had a heartattack when I saw Emilia Clarke and Tom Hiddleston
God, I wish more people in the US knew about Catherine Tate.
A Corn They do, mostly from the US Office (and Doctor Who). But who are those actresses in the video, Stacy and Florence? And the other actresses? I don’t know the others. I can only identify some.😕
I wish that we got to see Catherine doing dramatic roles. She great doing comedy but when she's serious, (eg Death of Doctor Donna) she is brilliant.
I’m from Canada and I know about her. From Doctor Who.
My favorite Doctor Who companion hands down. And then to think she had her own variety show.... Heaven!
"Look at my face" i can't it's too much
*Applause* That is exactly how it seems. No actress is good enough, nor can she be taken seriously. (Once Jessica Alba was told to pretty cry and that the tears would be CGI'd into the movie, So the crying part can possibly be accurate.) And the fact a lady role was given to a man, pretty much shows how men get the best parts, just because they are men. Bravo. And all these women were great.
I guess Meryl Streep, Julie Andrews and the rest of the amazing actresses in here don't exist in your world. They've inhabited some of the best leading parts, emphasis on Meryl Streep who was told she was ugly as a young woman. I'm not saying there isn't an underlying discrimination against women in the industry, but saying only men get the best parts is just ridiculous. It undermines the actor's talents that got them the part in the first place, and also the fact that it's up to the writers to choose the protagonist (male/female).
I'm so happy to see that my favourite actor, Hiddleston, is a Feminist. I feel so good.
He is. He always supports women and his female costars. In interviews, when there’s a comment or question that’s sexist toward them, I’ve seen him redirect and politely but firmly put the interviewer in their place and change the subject . He also said the reason he agreed to show his bum in the sex scene in crimson peake instead of his costar Mia Wasikowska doing nudity, was the “redress the balance” Since women are always the ones asked to show skin. He’s a feminist and a gentleman.
Ohhh it’s cho Chang
If you mean Gemma Chan, she acts in the series Humans and many other things, that's likely where you recognise her from.
I hope this is some kind of joke and not just racial blindness because if you mean Gemma Chan, she isn't the actress that played Cho Chang.
lol no, im pretty sure they were referring to the girl at the end with the clipboard. She's Katie Leung, and she did play Cho Chang. Gemma Chan wasn't the only asian in this short lol.
Lydia H I’m not being racially blind I’m Asian myself. The girl with the clipboard who says that she wants to audition is the same girl who played Cho Chang. I’m a potterhead so I just had to comment.
Look at who not noticing there were more than one Asian-descent actresses in this short.
no we aren't we are reffering to the actual actress that played cho chang near the end of the film
Watching it again, as good as the posters are, it is the way the line at 0:58-1:06 is "I always wanted the chance to speak..." and they cut her off that makes the entire short flow. Its just all gold from that interruption on.
I literally gasped when they asked the black lady for a coffee
Wunmi Mosaku. She’s agent B-15 in the Loki series on Disney Plus now. She’s great :)
This is so sad and funny at the same time, loved it!
Also, Tom Hiddleston 💖
MorDandis1 I really want those movie posters😂😂😂😂
Sophia XxXx So do I !!!
MorDandis1
Tom Poppins
Wonder Tom
La La Hiddles
I'd watch these movies in a heartbeat😁😂
Sophia XxXx Well, I know you and I wouldn't be the only ones watching :)
Here from Emma Watsons Instagram and omg this is so well done, im gonna show this around
I saw it from Emma Watson too
*oh my god/gosh
As a writer for tv, this is also a problem for us. I've been told this about the leading lady more than once: "she needs to be a leader, strong, independent, and needs the leading man to sort out her life because she's also helpless and naive", or "she must have flaws, because nobody is perfect, but she has to be proper, an example of a perfect woman in and out". Or shit like that.
That’s so disgusting. I’m sorry 😞
LO LO LONDON
omg 😂
Shakira Kiya yesss Lo Lo London Ahahah was funny
Also Tom Hiddleston you’re gorgeous
Poop Sticks Yoooo Zoro
I can’t believe those things are said to actors in auditions! This was a great idea to shed light on it and Catherine Tate was hilarious as always. Plus ...Tom Hiddleston 💘
Catherine Tate's face as she delivers "Could you be more...white?" lol of course she can make that look comedic and not want to hate her
Nice to see Lena Heady first of her name, queen of the andals and the first men, protector of the 7 kingdoms.
Modi Lena can do anything she wants. I adore her.
And Daenerys????
this was amazing and i DIED when tom showed up and just got the part! i was like, "tom, you're in the wrong place!" the he GOT THE PART. and the posters at the end were just, omg. great message, i love how it wasnt overly serious but still made you keep watching and easily got the point across
I watched this because Catherine Tate was in the thumbnail only for Tom Hiddleston to show up 😂
7:18 is that Tom dancing with Tom?
It's his character in the MU Loki.
😂😂😂
I came here for tom hiddleston but honestly I’m so glad I watched.
This short film is a powerful message of how women are usually treated in the high-end film industry. I'm happy to see everyone who participated in revealing this bold concept, especially to Tom Hiddleston who represented as the actor stereotype who these kinds of film industries go for. Everyone here is aware of the challenges, and it shows how important the Justice and Equality Fund is. 👏👏👏
OMG, when Catherine said "Look at my face" I was really expecting "am I bovvered" gag :D
i thought i’d never see catherine tate, lena heady, felicity jones and tom hiddleston in one collaboration also omg i love this
I absolutely love all the ladies that are in this, especially Catherine Tate..she needs to be in more things!
Only here for Emilia.
This was so well written by Jessica Swale and well acted by everyone in it! 👏🏻
Hats off to you leading ladies ❤
Also, can they please sell the Tom Hiddleston photoshopped posters as prints? They are hillarious 😂
Kerry 😂 I didn’t notice till the second time I saw the video is hilarious 😆
Catherine and Tom in one viedo yes please!
It’s what I’ve always wanted, the chance to speak...”. Very powerful message.
Yes, it's true, tom hiddleston got me here. But I still understand the meaning of this short film. As an actress, (I'm currently backstage of a play Haha) I totally get the wild expectations
Brilliant!! Amazing cast. True and Great message 👏👏👏
btw, Tom Hiddleston can be my Leading Lady 👌❤
Look at all the women in the crew credits!!!!! Not just talking about change but making it happen! Good on yas!
I love the message of the video! Also Tom in the posters at the end crack me up
This is completely unrelated to anything but man I’d love to see a film with Emilia Clarke and Tom Hiddleston as leads
I would die if Tom Hiddleston played Marry Poppins bc I love him and that movie so much
The portrayal of women in media really has become garbage and I wish they didn't have to be held to such high standards, especially in the workforce. We are at a constant disadvantage due to the sexism that still occurs today. I don't understand why people think women need to be this perfect object because it's just ridiculous. I hope there is change in the near future so this junk doesn't continue for generations on generations.
All these actors did great by the way, I really love how they sent the message.
I love Tom Hiddleston! 😍
Nathalia Jaca Tom Hiddleston is Life! Lovely message thu.
I'm here for Tom 💕
Hiddles Xx. X2
My favourite actors in 10 minutes of video..I could faint 😍😍😍
Am I the only one who came here just to see Catherine Tate? No? O-Okay..
NO! Okay it was in my recommendations, but I clicked for Catherine Tate!
- Kyoko - I love Catherine Tate! I have a huge girl crush on her. She’s so underrated!
Stay Golden me too
TOOOOOMMMMMMM HIDDLESTOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
A skillfully rendered message that is unfortunate in it's necessity. Really wonderful film!
Caroline Sauter yes the message does need to get out because the movie industry does this so often and universally too
Emma Watson sent me here
vamsy marni me too
That was brilliant and brutal. Loved it.
This short was amazing. Catherine Tate needs to be in all the things from now on. Thank you.
That's so true for all women all over. In law enforcement you walk into a room in front of three men most of the time, and your fate is in their hands. You either got the job or you don't.
Wasn't expecting Hiddleston at the end 😂
Emma Watson brought me here and I'm so thankful for her because this short is amazing and has such a powerful message. I'm gonna show it around
I’m a simple person. I see Catherine Tate and I click!
Exactly! The message of this film is that we still notice Tom Hiddleston (I love him ehehehe) even though he is not eligible to audition for the part. We ignore all the other girls who tried for the part even though some are already famous or talented women. The film is a statement, that even us as women look at other women with such scrutiny. The challenge is for us to break through those biases and give credit to where it is due.
Not only put out the issues of ladies auditioning, they added the beautiful actor, Tom Middleton. And of course, he didn't even need to read the script. He’s perfect for every roll
Tragedy is...the people doing this...sagregating against their own gender, race, age....omg. Painfully real and smart. I was hoping for more Emilia but....i saw it thanks to her.
This is a comic con fans dream: Marvel, Game of Thrones, Star Wars and Harry Potter
An incredible Video and message throughout, well done to all included. I cannot believe that this is still how the Industry is ran, it is completely disgusting! It honestly feels like we haven't moved on in the world at all. I worked on a Film Set for a few days and noticed the lack of women on set straight away. There are NOT enough opportunities for women and I just cannot stand the fact that this still occurs.
I was reading through casting opportunities to apply for roles and saw one independent film call for almost all male roles. Every singles supporting role or day player for a police officer said “male” in the gender section. Not just the specific speaking parts that might have been important for it to be a man for the plot, but even random cops that would be standing around at a scene, like they ALL had to be men!? It was so discouraging because the only female roles for very young. As a woman in my late 40’s, there is not a lot out there. Like they said to Lena “MOM!” That’s pretty much it. :(
I think this was a beautifully done short film with a very profound message. I really would like to broadcast this everywhere.
I wanted to add- this is literally what happens for trans women (and men) their roles get taken by men and women playing dress up while they get turned down for any role that isn't explicitly trans.
Cersei Lannister being yelled at by Donna Noble. "Next! Neeeeeeeexxxxxxxt!!!"'
This is so good, portraying reality.
Also lo lo London 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
And Donna, Daenerys, cho and Cersei wooooohhh. Tom is beautiful but the ladies stole the show
omg my 2 favorite actors in 1 video Tom Hiddleston and Emilia Clarke!!!!!
Great to see people with followings be part of these productions that highlight diversity issues! LOVE
it’s carrying a big massage. perfect 👌🏽
Lol yes please my shoulders are killing me
Well done Gemma Arterton, Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, Felicity Jones, Catherine Tate, Wunmi Mosaku, Florence Pugh, Katie Leung, Stacy Martin, Anthony Welsh, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Swale, Jessica Malik, and Jessica Parker
I just watched all the videos on the channel and I have to say that I feel uncomfortable and disappointed: this project tried to show the power of women and give a message to value and support females, but half of the comments are about Tom Hiddleston (whom I love) but I also love all these incredible women who have to face these problems. I'm angry because we're part of the problem, I mean there are 10 women in scene and y'all act like those panelists invisibilizing them bc of a men. Girls take the message! We need to support ourselves (and each other) and give us a place in the world, we are also capable, we just need to see it
(Btw, sorry for my english, it's not my first language)
I agree. I adore Tom but for this video, I completely ignored that. This was a good message.
You make an excellent and highly valid point. Although I'd forgive the Hiddlestoners - their reactions do underline the point of the film and in such an obvious way that most people are going to see what you mean. And that debate will help to drive forward this important discussion in society. I love Tom too, and I'm delighted to see him using his considerable privilege in this film. His appearance was the perfect punchline and emphasised the point perfectly. As do his more obsessive fans' reactions.
Well said
With the exception of Catherine and Tom, I don't recognise anyone else. Hence why they are "invisible" to me.
Vanessa Gómez Most people are commenting about Hiddleston because he has a huge fanbase mostly made up of females, and he has also been out of the public eye for some time now so people are excited to see him again.
I hardly have the words to say how much I love this and how much this is needed! SO accurate! Well done Ladies and Gents!
Damn, I was hoping Catherine was going to do her bothered bit.
My heart just stopped when they insulted Lena Headey xO
I was like: Aaaahhhh she's gonna kill them!!! xD
Catherine Tate is WONDERFUL and so is Katie Leung! I was so excited to see them!
LOOK AT MY FACE? AM I BOTHERED?
I love this short film. This is so awesome. And has a very great meaning. Depicts the common sexist and racist remarks made by people or professionals in the cinema field. Apart from that, Mary Ploppins featuring Tom Hiddleston would be funny - in a good way, cos he's a great actor, and he's my fav too.
6:27 Look at my face... *AM I BOVVERED!!* 😄
I love this so much. I think all the ladies are so great for doing this. Lots of respect for Hiddleston for getting in on it.
This short film needs more attention. The message behind it is so important and shows how this business sadly still works.
Really good shortfilm, smartly showcasing both the stereotypes, discrimination and lack of diversity in both our everyday society and the film industry. Loved the me too message in the end also
Tom hiddleston you are gorgeous
Why hasn't this blown up yet?
Love this!!! Amazing how many of those comments I have actually heard in a casting room! Lets make a change ladies!
I loved all the posters at the back starring TOM. a funny twist in the end x
Fan-bloody-tastic! Absolutely brilliant! Hopefully this has an impact on our culture, especially the traditional media.
I love how when as soon as Hiddleston came into the room Catherine Tate was just like "Oh....*is checking him out* HELLLLO"
😂😂😂😂😂
#TOMHIDDLESTON.
I laughed at the end with the posters in the background 😂. I also love the message and how it showcases what actresses have to go through vs what actors have to go through.
I'm happy that they upload it here, because I do not have a BBC subscription because I live in Central America. I loved the short, the music is great and the way it shows how women in the film industry are left out. And believe me, not only in that, in many other professions it also happens
This was wonderfully done with an amazing cast of incredible actresses of characters from some of my favourite books/shows/films; Donna Noble, Cho Chang, Qi'ra, Jocelyn Fairchild, Loki etc. The fact that so many people are focusing on Tom does help prove their point but I think if they had used a less famous actor, more people would have commented about the point being proved rather than how hot or amazing Tom is.
That was brilliant .
Here for Emma Watson......thanks
All the people in this short are absolutely amazing, hardworking, beautiful and we have no right to compare them. They are all amazing. Absolutely amazing ❤️
This is really hitting home, I haven’t even seen the audition rooms because no one believes I’m attractive enough to even be in the industry. If this is what it actually is, I should just give up on my dreams now.
Can we please talk about Tom's absolutely sassy pose as Mary Poppins?
Also this is such a powerful message, more people should see this and do something about it
The best regular people could do, would be support the actress in their leading films. And shows.
Buttercup Coffee Doesnt mean you cant support the men as well. Support both!
Here from Emma Watson but stayed for the message. They conveyed such a loud, and often overlooked issue, that is such a big problem in such a short film. It truly was eye-opening and I hope the world sees it. You guys are really changing the world, one person at a time...
Oh my god its gemma from the bond film jesus christ but I loved this
For a sec I thought you meant Gemma Chan, not Arterton.
This is so fabulous! And that they had Tom Hiddleston reminded me of a Daily Mash sketch...
ill be honest i came here for hiddleston but then halfway thru i forgot he was even in it! this is so well done and i recognized more faces than i thought i would. powerful.
*He's pefect for every part indeed.*
So good! Love that Catherine Tate was in it, she's hilarious!
