If you just barely bought a hot tub from us, we recommend you watch the whole video from the beginning. This video teaches you how to use chemicals for your hot tub, specifically how to use Bromine or Chlorine in your hot tub, since they both act very similar when they sanitize water.

    This is a great video. We've had our hot tub for about 7 months now and love it! The only real issue we have had is with this foam when you run the jets on high, and when you turn off, it leaves some waster line rings. Even after DRAIN and REFILL and cleaning the filter and using a spa purge product during the drain process (called Ahh-some), the foamy bubbles are back right away after. I'm almost thinking the issue is the filter, and maybe I should just get a new one, but i rinsed that sucker off real good last time and it turned back to white after soaking in a cleaner and then rinsing. I got another product called Spa Perfect, but it doesn't seem to get rid of this annoying foam. Another issue we have is that the ozonator KILLS the bromine pretty fast, so every time I test the bromine level is almost undetectable. The manufacturer of the spa said this is OK and I should just add bromine after exiting each time, and once a week a little extra when shocking... Who knows if that's good advice, I haven't had any skin issues in the 7 months of using the tub following that regimen. Another thing that is not clear is where to dump the chemicals, and when. I've heard that you should pour them in the filter compartment. I've heard you should just dump them around the tub. I've heard that some chemicals such as PH up and PH down should be diluted in water before dumping into the tub. I've heard some should not be combined, i.e. don't use spa perfect immediately before or after shocking. I've also heard most products should be introduced with jets on high and all the air vents open... So that's what I do, but are there some that should not be done that way?

    • @eileenfuentes6975
      @eileenfuentes6975 5 лет назад +2

      Foam when jets are high :
      -pH may be out of range
      -if you have soft water, bigger bubbles will occur. Make sure the hardness is in optimal range
      - if your pH and bromine levels are too high that can also cause foam. I don't know why the guy said to add bromine every time you exit. I could be wrong but I would think it's better to check the levels of bromine and if the levels are fine you shouldn't add more. I recommend you shock your hot tub after each use especially if you use it often.
      I always add my chemicals in the water with the lid off and the Jets on full force. I measure it and then sprinkle it into the hot tub.
      I used Leisure Time PH down, I have never had to use pH Up. but if you are using this product it's best to mix it in a cup of the hot tub water and dump it into the hot tub once it's fully mixed
      -hair conditioners, detergents, makeup, lotions, sweat…all these things can end up in your hot tub while soaking. These ingredients result in foaming when soaking. Best to take a shower or rinse with hose first. One time when I got my hair wet in the hot tub it immediately started foaming up. Like right away. I use serums in my hair to make it shiny and less frizzy and if anyone with long hair gets in the hot tub, it's best to have your hair pulled back. I personally could not get in the hot tub with my hair down because I would get too hot anyways. It was just the back nape area of my hair that got wet so I knew that was definitely the phone since it happened right away. Leisure Time Has a product called foam down and you just squirt a drop or two right where the foam is and like magic it disappears. It's pretty fun to do, it's like magic right before your eyes. It's like a foam extinguisher.
      -if your pH is too high, minerals can interact with water and form a brownish water line. If that is the case use a PH decreaser
      - adding a water clarifier will break down any organic materials and they will go in the filter. But it's very important to clean your filter every week by giving a good blast with the hose and then spring on a filter cleaner and then rinsing. Even better add the filter cleaner to a bucket of water and let it sit overnight and then rinse off again. Rinse it very well because if not you will get foam
      - if the film caused by minerals then use a stain and scale product
      - I used Leisure Time jet clean and you put it in the water, the entire bottle, and run the Jets full force for 15 minutes. Then I let the water sit for an hour and then running another 15 minutes. What's important is you want to add the jet clean into the water that you will be dumping before refilling. This will ensure that all the biofilm that occurs in the the piping and Plumbing in your hot tub is removed. Hopefully you will not see any Dark Water occurring in the hot tub. If you see black stuff coming out of the filters when you're using the jet clean product, I would refill it and throw another bottle in there until the water runs clear. People don't think about the pipes inside of the hot tub but since hot tubs are small bodies of hot water bacteria will grow really quick. I always keep our hot tub on standby mode. That way the water is always running through the Jets throughout the day. Our hot tub is a 110 volt and we barely noticed any difference in the electric bill. I would like to convert it to a 220 volt but it's not a huge issue. The only thing I like about a 220-volt is that the water would stay warmer longer.
      - it really depends on what product line you use and whether you should as each one separately. If you are not sure I would go the safe route and go by the directions on the bottle and assume that you should add them individually in the correct order. I would rather play it safe in case you're not supposed to mix the products. My thought is that if products were supposed to be mixed together they would be sold in the same bottle like an all-in-one product. but that doesn't mean you can't add them together it just all depends on the instructions. Sometimes you can add products together and each bottle is separate because depending on the scenario of your hot tub determines which ones you should use. the best thing you can do is call your local pool and hot tub Supply and ask them directly. Or you can call the manufacturer of the products they would not give you the wrong advice I know it's a year later that I'm answering this but I hope this helps you or anyone else that reads this comment. I am not an expert but I have been maintaining my hot tub with no problems since I got the hang of the chemicals chemistry.
      if you stay on top of checking your hot tub and changing it every 3 to 4 months problems like cloudy water in phone are usually simple fixes by correcting whatever is off. But if the water is filthy or you feel that something isn't right just dump it. Trust your gut. your health is more important than a few extra dollars on your water bill. Hot tubs aren't huge so it's not like you're filing a huge swimming pool

    • @TakeABreakSpasandBilliards
      @TakeABreakSpasandBilliards  10 месяцев назад

      Glad eileenfuentes6975 made that huge response, haha. I agree with everything she said. Most commonly people are getting foam in their tubs due to bathers bringing in foaming agents like shampoos, detergents, conditioners, etc. But if you follow our process it will prevent you from putting in unnecessary chemicals, because we only put in coagulators and clarifiers like Leisure Time Bright and Clear after we've checked the filter first, checked pH, then checked sanitizer.

    Hello, thank you so much for the video, very helpful, I am a beginner and this video is very easy to understand, I just had a question, once you fill your spa for the first time and put the bromine for the first time, you said to crush the tablets, do you put the crushed tablets directly in the water or do you put the crushed tablets inside the feeder? Also should the jets be running when we first put the bromine in ?

    • @TakeABreakSpasandBilliards
      @TakeABreakSpasandBilliards  4 года назад +1

      When you crush the tablets I recommend you put it in the filter area where it won't sift down to the footwell. This is because of the fact that tablets are slow dissolving and will feel like sand on the floor of the spa. Not a fun experience! And yes, have the jets running any time you dose chemicals into the water (other than perhaps Metal Gon).

    I'm experiencing an odd water situation on a 260 gallon Jacuzzi.
    All measurements are correct and my ph and bromine are good. I experienced stickiness in the water, so I drained it scrubbed it out refilled it and still it remains.
    It makes the surfaces stick to my skin and it feels sticky on my fingers too. Nothing else seems odd water is clear, yet I have this issue. Any ideas?

    • @TakeABreakSpasandBilliards
      @TakeABreakSpasandBilliards  5 лет назад

      That is really peculiar. We've never really seen much stickiness in hot tubs. Is the stickiness only on the surface of the spa or is it throughout all the water like you're bathing in glue? Is it just when you touch the surface or does it linger on your skin and makes everything else you touch sticky too. How old is the Spa and did it not used to stick to you? As far as cleaning the spa goes, you should spray out your filters or replace them and you could use some "Off the Wall" by BioGuard (www.takeabreakspas.com/store/p209/Bioguard_Off_The_Wall.html) with a crushed walnut pad (www.takeabreakspas.com/store/p42/The_Spa_Cleaning_Pad.html). That stuff gets anything off. As for the cause, I'm thinking it's either biological, like biofilm or algae, or maybe it is adhesive that was brought in by stickers on new swimsuits that weren't removed. If it's biological the best thing you can do is put in a product called Enzyme (www.takeabreakspas.com/store/p63/Leisure_Time_Enzyme_32_oz.html). If it's adhesive that's melted in the hot water and distributed to your surfaces, that Off the Wall product should do the trick and keep the surface of your acrylic spa nice and shiney (not scratched up like other abrasive cleaners).

    I don't use bromine, but am considering switching form chlorine. I've read that the floaters are a bad idea, as they create locally acid conditions near the floater, and damage pillows etc. Can anyone confirm this?

    • @TakeABreakSpasandBilliards
      @TakeABreakSpasandBilliards  3 года назад +1

      Unless you have a built in dispenser, there really isn't another way to maintain a constant level. Sometimes you can get away with putting the tablets in the filter basket if you have one. Chlorine can be corrosive, so I'm not surprised to hear about that "acidic condition" you speak of, but honestly we haven't heard about complaints like this with the predominantly bromine using customers of ours. Pillows getting damaged usually comes from low pH or oxidation by shocking and shutting the cover down. Because chlorine gasses off fast in hot water, you can have the same effect as shocking. That's one of the reasons we always recommend bromine.

    • @paulwary
      @paulwary 3 года назад

      Take A Break Spas and Billiards Thanks, but I thought you could dose a spa by using just the granular product daily to keep a reasonably constant level, or at least above some level (eg 3 ppm for Cl) for a good part of the day and while bathing. My understanding was that bromination compounds were more stable than chlorination compounds in warm water, making it relatively easy to keep a constant level without using a slow-release pellets.

    • @TakeABreakSpasandBilliards
      @TakeABreakSpasandBilliards  3 года назад +1

      @@paulwary Yes, this is certainly true. You can absolutely do it that way and you are correct about the stability. If you just rely on concentrate though, you will start to feel like you are using an excessive amount if you have a heavy bather load. Tablets just help maintain the level though, so if you want to cut it out you totally can !

    Can you use ONLY the Renew product without using additional chemicals?

    • @TakeABreakSpasandBilliards
      @TakeABreakSpasandBilliards  4 года назад

      Not likely, since you do need some sort of sanitizer in the water. On board systems such as ozone and UV-C certainly help, but with regular or heavy use will not be able to keep up. Renew is potassium peroxymonosulfate, which is just an oxidizer, not a sanitizer. It will reinvigorate some of the prior bromine or chlorine in the water, but that sanitizer needs to be there prior to shocking with non-chlorine based shock.

      Wow, that really does sound like a scam in all honesty! Good thing we simplify it to just 6 chemicals. That's your metal gon for getting minerals and coppers out (very high out here in Utah, tons of complaints about green water that would be fixed if metal gon would be applied) as well as irons, defender (because it's included with the metal gon, though you really only need it until you balance out and are no longer in danger of scale, and even then you can get the metal gon from us without getting the defender attached), ph up (baking soda), ph down (absolutely necessary), bromine tabs/granules, and shock oxidizer (potassium peroxymonosulfate for relieving dead bacteria from the water). I could hardly imagine using 75 different chemicals, much less 23! I'm glad you're not getting the "rubber cleaner", sounds like a rip off.

      You can use household products, but we don't encourage it. If it was so effective the spa industry would be selling it a lot more. Dry ph decreasers and increasers a lot more effective and you use a lot less. A quick search online will have plenty of opinions of why not to use stuff like that.
      For example: "There are a number of solutions for a PH that is too high or too low. Some hot tub owners try to correct the pH with common household chemicals, like white vinegar or baking soda. However, this is generally not a good idea. Vinegar and baking soda can interact with other dissolved solids to cause scaling. It can also lead to strange odours in your hot tub. It is also inconvenient to use up boxes of baking soda or jugs of vinegar to balance your hot tub’s pH. You can save yourself some headaches by investing in hot tub pH balance adjusters".
      Forums online have people saying it its saved them time and money to get chemicals that are rated for the industry. But, we do have a philosophy when it comes to hot tub chemicals, and its "do what works"! If you'd rather invest in household products because you'll be able to use them for other things around the house, more power to you.
