    Thank you so much! I watch a lot of people on plantube and I heard someone say that plants with variegation need low light??? I was really really confused so thank you for talking about that! I also find that the other plantubers talk about the plant in the most common variety instead of breaking it down into smaller varieties like you did with this (it gets kinda annoying after a while because even though it’s the same plant sometimes different varieties have different needs). I find that people usually hang them in places where the top does not get enough sun or light. I have found that when I make sure that the top is getting sun light I get a bunch of new growth. I also will cut clippings from them even when I don't want to propagate them because when you cut they grow new chutes and create new vines.I mix in leaf litter with the soil and it seems to help.I have had great luck with pothos.

    • @PlantBoy
      @PlantBoy  4 года назад +3

      Hey, Prime. Thanks for checking out the video. I do have a video all about repotting called “repotting 101”. I answer your question and more in this video. To answer your question now, repot during the warmer months of the year. Also, repot once the root formation in the pot has become too large. Ideally you want a bit of room for the roots to grow out. If you can pull the plant out of its pot and the roots keep the shape of the pot, it’s time to repot!

  • @weareorigin
    @weareorigin 4 года назад +4

    Surprisingly, the marble queen does handle low light as advertised....I mean about 100 to 200 LUX of lights. At such low levels, ZZ plants don't want to grow new stems and peace lilies can wither to brown leaves.
    The grow rate was fine. 5 feet long for green pothos, 1-3 feet long for marble queen, and 2 inches for n joy pothos in the same room.

    • @PlantBoy
      @PlantBoy  4 года назад

      Good to know. They are such great plants. Did you have any trouble with the variegation on it reverting back or becoming less of a brilliant white?

    • @weareorigin
      @weareorigin 4 года назад

      @@PlantBoy yeah the 5 feet green pothos was probably the reverting marble queen. At low light, half the leaf is green & half of the leaf is variegated. One stem lost it's variegation on 2 leaves but the 3rd leaf regained the variegation. I didn't trim the stem.

    • @PlantBoy
      @PlantBoy  4 года назад +1

      Hi, there. It could be a few things...
      1) What is your humidity like? This is most likely your problem. If you have very low humidity, the tropical foliage may turn brown around the edges. Increase humidity with a pebble tray (do a google search), or buy a humidifier.
      2) Have you fertilized recently? Sometimes OVER-fertilizing can burn the foliage as the excess minerals settle into the tips of the leaves and cause "fertilizer burn". Pull back on your fertilizer.
      3) How often do you water? Letting the plant dry out past the point of seeing the foliage drupe and wilt slightly could cause some leaf damage. If this were the issue, I'd expect you would have entirely dead leaves rather than crispy edges.
      Hope this helps!

    I think I have a Snow Queen, a lot more of the white than green. I noticed after watering the white varigation gets lots of brown spots, almost like they rot. I do let it dry out between waterings.
    Any idea why this is happening?

    • @PlantBoy
      @PlantBoy  4 года назад +1

      It sounds like that could be normal.
      First, if you believe it to be rot, check your root system. If they are white, fibrous, and firm, it's not rot.
      Leaves that are primarily white almost entirely lack chorlaphyl, the organelle responsible for turning sunlight into energy. If a leaf is not producing enough energy, it's not uncommon for the plant to stop supplying the leaf with energy. It's for this reason that I think what you're seeing is simply a natural part of the life cycle of the plant. I would say the same to someone who is experience leaf loss at the base of the plant while new growth is happening at the top of the plant.
      It could be another problem, of course, but if it's happening to strictly older leafs that are almost all white, don't be alarmed.
      Hope this helps!

    Between this one and the pearl and jade pothos, which one should I put in the brighter room???

    • @PlantBoy
      @PlantBoy  4 года назад +1

      Hey, Kel. That’s a tough question. I would say it depends on the amount of white variegation you have on the plant. Whichever plant has more white variegation is going to need more light because it has less chlorophyll. Hope this helps :)

    If ever your pothos loose his white leaves cuz of low light, is it gonna come back in better lighting condition or it will continue grow green leaves?

    • @PlantBoy
      @PlantBoy  4 года назад +1

      Good question Camille. I think it depends on a few factors. Is the leaf now solid green, or does it have a few tones of green that were once white? Take a look at the stem of some of the vines. If the vines are solid green, it is unlikely that your plant will ever turn white again. If the vine has some variation of color, I would bet that if you place it in a much brighter location, the newer growth formed will be closer to a more brilliant white color.
      Hope this helped, and happy growing!

      Hi, Dani De Marchis. What do you mean by pale? You mean the white variegation? I prefer the stark white versus the mint toned variegation that can occur in lower light situations. High light is crucial to maintaining the white variegation as mentioned
