Just a few FYI… 1) You’re supposed to hand tight the oil filter only. The way I see it, you’re already over tighten the oil filter. 2) Do not reuse crush washer. The crush washer is made out of aluminum and designed to be one time use only. Once it’s pressed, it deformed and created a seal to the oil pan and the bolt. If you reuse it, there’s a chance you may have a leak at the oil pan bolt. 3) Check your torque spec when tighten the oil pan bolt, if you over tighten the bolt , you may strip the oil pan. Nice video btw 🤙🏼
FWIW Toyota only does the complimentary ones every 10,000 miles. The Car Care Nut, a Toyota mechanic, suggests going for 5000 if you actually want the car to last a long time. 10K is good if you plan to keep the car 5 years or less.
You fill up oil filter with fresh oil, and try to screw it on the side of the engine. You had to edit video to cut out embarrassing moment when oil starts pouring out of oil filter. Great job!
Thank you! Here are a few things I have learned... Drive-up ramps are cheap and worth it, I always throw down a big plastic tarp under the car because oil sometimes splashes far. No need to tighten the filter with a wrench hand tight is plenty, Buy some cheap drain plug gasket washers. Toyota filters are actually inexpensive around $6.00 and are very good and their 0w-16w is competitive. Apparently, the biggest reason to run 0w -16w over 0w-20w is a 1% increase in gas mileage.
filter tightening spec, usually found on box, is hand tighten + 1/4 turn with wrench. However, some of us have unusual hand grip capable of that 1/4 turn.
@@mikegarcia7452 I just buy the 0w - 20w at Costco, use it in our Prius it is running fine at 232K. Average video. I’ve been doing oil changes for decades. Average…for reasons listed in previous comments. Hand tighten filter with good gloves that grip. Didn’t show the removal of the plastic or metal sheet pan covering the bottom of the engine. I will be doing my first oil change in a few weeks on my hybrid….I’m nearly sure the sheet pan needs to be taken off to access the oil drain pan and filter. Seems like too much torque was used in tightening the drain pan plug. If the plug or drain pan are made of aluminum…aluminum is softer than steel…you can strip the pan or plug if applying too much torque. You can reuse the washer, BUT you must sand it down a bit with medium grit Emory cloth to remove any indentations from it being tightened down in the first place. Yes, they can be overly expensive so I’ve used the washers over and over again w/o problems, but sanding them down on both sides is required. Didn’t show the removal of the air sensor….why not? How much new oil needed to replenish? 4 qts, 5qts, how much??? The owners manual I have is confusing. This is an average video….. that can cause u problems. Sorry.

Nice to know they use spin-on oil filters and not cartridge filters. Not a fan of cartridge style.
Same here. Job is much easier on spin-on type than cartridge.
The v6 apparently is a cartridge style
Hey I liked the video it was really helpful but next time you put oils like the cone so that air can get in and the oil can enter faster.🙏

Never.
What kind of oil filter wrench did you use? Thanks
We used the wrench we had for cartridge style oil filter (like 3.5L V6 engine in Highlander(Kluger)). It worked ok.
I like the Lisle 63600 - it is spring loaded and fits any small vehicle oil filter from motorcycles up to passenger vehicles and light trucks.
what brand jack stands are those?
www.kincrome.com.au/ Kincrome, a Australian brand mate.
The oil filter torque down was a big no no.
Unnecessary work air filter etc

0W20 can it be used instead of 0W16?
I think it depends on the climate you drive your car as well. Recommend to check the user manual in your country.
Manual says you can use 0W-20, but you have to use 0W-16 the next oil change.
Only use 0w20 in an emergency. Stick with 0w16 if at all possible.
When a filter is at the bottom of the engine, it is not necessary to put clean oil in the filter. Use of used oil on the rubber is perfectly ok.
