"I don't want to marry no man" In this kind of setting she would be raised with the expectation that she would marry at some point, and it'd be a very rare woman who would not. The very idea that she'd act like some modern woman who denies marriage and family doesn't work if there's nobody there to actually lead her in that direction. This can work in a fantasy setting if its established in that setting, but if you're by default using a medieval (or at least pre-modern setting) then it doesn't make sense. Of course people are going to be like "oh so does that mean if she refuses marriage she'll be forced into it?" Stop thinking like a person from a modern era. You're not thinking clearly about this at all. For her, the very idea of not marrying wouldn't even be present. In order to think that was even an option she'd have to have someone TELLING her it was an option. And no such people even exist in this setting. It can happen by chance; a betrothed dies and no one else comes up, or there's wars that prevent it from happening. But its pretty rare in the context that the option would even present itself. And the girl in question would be raised with a desire for family anyway. You can only come up with such an idea if you live in the modern era where its actively promoted.
While she didn't want to get married, she never told her father that she wouldn't. She never argued with his decision that she would marry even though she didn't want to be. She denied the antagonist, the same guy her father refused to allow to marry her, but she never told her dad that she wouldn't marry whoever he told her to.
The thing a lot of people forget about arranged marriages is that not only are women forced into marriages, BUT SO ARE THE MEN! The men often had no say in who they were supposed to marry either. He could be forced to marry a literal girl who continues to live with her family (in case they decide the man is suddenly not good enough) or a significantly older woman who is probably past her child bearing years. Either way he’s probably blown 5-10 years of his life with no heir to show for it. Then he probably dies of smallpox or a battle and his second younger brother gets to take over (because the first younger brother was packed off to a monastery). But you know, it was all GREAT for men.
The sad thing is I even watched a video where Men of the West was praising this dogshit movie, saying that it was amazing and that the critics don't know what their talking about
It’s a shame, because I want to like that movie, because the animation is eye candy, and the action is really cool, but the movie sucks! What a disappointment, Sad!😢
It’s pretty mid. The worst part is that Hera is literally a fanfiction OC character created by Hollywood. If they wanted to expand the role of Helm’s nameless daughter, they could have done it without having her steal Fraelaf’s part
Bruh...i took one look at the trailer for this on Prime and went "this is the wokest pile of garbage i have seen in a while". It doesn't follow lore, it is clearly only there to send a message, it's poorly written, and the animation is sub par. It's a trashy movie that doesn't even garner a B rating. It's a D list movie. *insert "brother ew" meme here*
They think that by drawing it Anime style, and by putting in Tolkien's name, that will automatically make it good, or at least fool us into thinking it's good. In fact it's the substance of Tolkien that makes his work good, and the substance of anime that makes it good (when it is good). These people can't create anything with substance.
I saw Shadiversity’s take on War of the Rohirrim, via Knight’s Watch, and he pointed out sooo many inconsistencies with the story. Not even really touching on how it deviates from Tolkien’s writing, just on common sense, like how is it that you can see people clearly running in a not-blizzard and NOT be able to defend the walls…
I expected nothing less and was not disappointed. I don’t watch movies until I have confirmation that they aren’t woke. Not willing to waste more time on Marx’s ist propaganda. Im also a fantasy/sci-fi author that isn’t woke, follow the anvil if you’re curious.
It's minimal not because of the anime they blame but because in itself they do not focus on the king in the battle of Edoras but his daughter who behaves as if an infuriating girlboss.
Wait a moment I remember it saying she was supposed to be married to a lord of gondor, and wulf and his dad tried to take over 1st by marriage then by war
Strong women aren't necessarily bad. In Asian media especially those wuxia and xianxia types they've got plenty of those. The difference is that they have character development and most if not have a male love interest then get married. One even sacrificed herself to defeat the big bad to protect her two (triangle) lovers. Completely different from current Western portrayal.
People praise the PJ trilogy, but it completely skipped over the conclusion of Ewoyn's story. That *she was wrong*. If I recall, she lost the use of her arm, found that war really f-ing sucks, and found the strength to live on with Faramir, resolving to become a healer.
PJ gave a split second hint to it in the theatrical version, that was easy to miss. The extended version goes into how Eowyn and Faromir came together, and the strength she found with him.
She was wrong because in the books, she sought war and death in battle because she was depressed and loathed the meaninglessness of her own life. It allowed her to resist the terror of the Witch-King, because she was already resolved to die.
@@paulatreat2496 You'll note they don't even say anything because it would undermine the girlboss caricature the producers for the film wanted to turn Eowyrn into. Book Eowyn learns some damn humility that movie Eowyn does not.
8:34 Yea this is why these modern writers simply can’t write these medieval era fantasy stories anymore, they fill it with their modern beliefs and it just makes no sense.
Same, you have no idea how hyped I was. I love lord of the rings and anime i really wanted an epic war movie, only to see a movie about a woke female protagonist. It really pisses me off. I knew everything that was going to happen when I saw the trailer and after seeing all these reviews it was far worse than i thought. Everyone is going to forget this movie even existed within a year
Personally I prefer long movies. The longer the better. However,..... it still needs to be good quality in all aspects - otherwise I'm not bothering with it.
Warner Bros, apparently made this to retain the rights to the stories. If Peter Jackson went along with this whole mess, then I’d be hard pressed to go and support his upcoming and future LOTR projects.
i havent seen it yet, but i knew from the start that this would be weird, to say the least. Reading the comments and watch several videos my initial thought that only the LOTR trilogy, and edited Hobbit are the real deal, hasnt change. Having said that, i am not anxious for the next movies of this ''francise'' anymore. At least, i have my books to read.
Tolkien's characters didn't marry as children, because he wasn't a creep, so it's not unusual that she's not married yet. Also Tolkien considered the idea of marriage as being almost something sacred in his stories, so he put great emphasis on the couple falling in love and choosing to marry each other. Arranged or forced marriages didn't end well in his stories. So Hera not wanting to marry that douche it's not so weird. What is almost anti Tolkien is her choosing not to marry at all, as those people were seen as having something wrong with them, almost like being cursed in his Universe.
So, I was invited by one of my friends to go see this on Friday and.... how do I put this? It's not something that felt like it was connected to The Lord of the Rings or the Hobbit..... because it doesn't feel like anything Tolkien would've written. I mean, good grief, I haven't even read half of The Two Towers (first time reading), but from going through The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring, they are fairly consistent with their general themes and messaging, regarding self-sacrifice (in spite of not wanting to at times), whereas "Hera" (seriously they couldn't use a more Norse / Olde English sounding name? They screwed up the Tolkien's language with including a Greek Goddess that's known to all? Was Athena too 'on the nose'?) is effectively rebelling against her royal duties and 'girl-bosses' her way out of situations that realistically should've been the end for her. Oh, and this was plain boring and predictable. I kept looking at my phone to see what was going on in some of the Discord chats I frequent so I didn't fall asleep. As far as the liberal and the gay is concerned, I suppose that could a subtext. It's not explicit enough in the movie from what I did remember; rather it was just BS propaganda aimed at telling girls and women not to get married and have families. This is very antithetical to what Tolkien would have written and believed.. especially as a practicing and orthodox Roman Catholic.
Actually, it has been like that for centuries, at least with the upper classes. Look up the biography of George Washington...who he truly loved, who he married and why. Look at the history of royal marriage.
Matrimony (making a mother) was never primarily about the love and connection of two people. It was about children and family. Fathers would authorize a marriage for many reasons, love and connection were, at best, only one of the reasons.
She keeps saying the thing about marrying no man bc of the line that the woman says in return of the king. "No man can kill me" "i am no man!" Its a repeat of that
11:35 Gally from "Battle Angel Alita" for some reason (well, basically because Kishiro wanted to draw that I reckon) went up against a gigantic robotic centaur to fulfill another contract for her cloud-dwelling handlers. Took him out cleanly too. 🧐
I like the concept of a movie about rohan fighting the dundlingings. However this is a bulldung way to do it. Nevermind the fact that the movie gives the enemies oliphants when this was dunelindings not haradrim.
Did we see the same movie? Where was the lesbianism? She just didnt want to get married because she wanted to go on adventures. Are you sure you aren't just suffering from woke fatigue? There's quite a bit of nitpicking.
She was honestly just a ripoff of merida from Brave. Still a mary sue but more Rey than she hulk or Guyladriel. It’s still crazy that they swapped Helm and Fraelaf with a nameless princess with one line about her, though.
The movie ends with her riding off with her lesbian lover. At least according the LGBT community celebrating the openly lesbian romance between Hera and her shieldsman. they say that it is confirmed by films creators that Hera and the shield maiden are a couple.
does not want to marry any man + rejects an attractive man like wulf who is also her childhood friend + kisses another woman on the cheek in a strange scene for no reason. It seems quite implied.
This day and age, whenever you hear one of these writers/producers promise that ‘X’ won’t be woke, there’s a 99% chance that it will be woke. Glad I skipped this crap and saved my money.
I'm confused on one thing: Thorien was supposed to be a descendant of Helm Hammerhand. With Helm's sons dead and Hera not marrying any man - how can Thorien be Hammerhand's heir?
The other woman in the film is Olwyn, Hera’s nursemaid who became her caretaker when Hera’s mother died. I don’t think that a young woman kissing her middle-aged foster mother on the cheek counts as lesbianism. The anti-marriage message was definitely there, and most of your criticism is valid, but your interpretation of the relationship between Hera and Olwyn made me wonder if we watched the same film.
Haven't seen the movie and don't intend to, but your perspective makes sense to me. If these writers were better, I might wonder if they were trying to copy the lady knight Britomart and her nursemaid Glauce from Spenser's Faerie Queen. Of course, the whole reason Britomart became a knight errant was because she saw the man she would marry in a vision and wanted to help him. Replacing the pro-marriage message of the Faerie Queen with rank feminism, unfortunately, lends a subtext to those archetypal characters that might not have been intentional. I agree with you that the relationship between these two characters probably wasn't meant the way that Jon and Gary at Nerdrotic took it. The movie is enough of a disaster without throwing that in.
99% of my fav female characters are asian made. Thats bad. From the west first that comes to mind i like red sonja, she-spawn, and lady mechanika. The pickings are so slim here.

Violet evergarden?
@@misterfevillord1588 I don't think that's feminist.
@@misterfevillord1588 In what universe is VE feminist
I think we should stop calling things woke I prefer the Term Hollywood Garbage or HG
These people know their propaganda can't stand on its own so they have to use the works that already have fandoms and maintain a level of success to deliver their ideological slop. The nice thing is that people are just writing things like this off completely. They aren't even getting the outrage, they are just getting complete apathy or mockery. They've become the jokes flailing their arms and spouting crap while thinking they live free in people's heads. They have added nothing substantial to art or culture and their movements have done infinitely more harm to their causes than they could ever imagine.
Their names will not he remembered and if they are they will be remembered as jokes. What a legacy.
"I don't want to marry no man"
In this kind of setting she would be raised with the expectation that she would marry at some point, and it'd be a very rare woman who would not. The very idea that she'd act like some modern woman who denies marriage and family doesn't work if there's nobody there to actually lead her in that direction. This can work in a fantasy setting if its established in that setting, but if you're by default using a medieval (or at least pre-modern setting) then it doesn't make sense.
Of course people are going to be like "oh so does that mean if she refuses marriage she'll be forced into it?"
Stop thinking like a person from a modern era.
@@patrickstewart3446 True... but the way you put it had me laughing for some reason.
The sad thing is I even watched a video where Men of the West was praising this dogshit movie, saying that it was amazing and that the critics don't know what their talking about
Its unfortunate but some of these fan channels end up shilling for exposure, perks, and freebies.
Shills
I’m from the West, and I’m shocked as well. That some of my own countrymen, Find this shit entertaining.
It looks like those Men of the West people have too much soy in their diets.
He was actually pretty critical of Rings of power season 1, but since then just turned into a complete shill. Disgraceful.
They wasted these good character designs.
Thought the same, Wulf stood out to me in the trailer however turned out to be one or the most shallow antogonists I've seen in a while
Well... not really a surprise but at least people said no to this at the box office.
Pushing this crap into everything just makes my wallet tighter.
I will never give them a dime

Hera: I am the bride of death!
Death: UM...NO, ACTUALLY.
At this point if there’s no talks of a piece of media not being satanic I just assume it is and pass.
Very expensive fanfiction. Or maybe not. "Fanfiction" implies that it's written by a fan of the source material.
The Hobbit trilogy is better.
Maybe, but I didn't stomach it.
It never ceases to amaze me how they ignore actual empowering women in fiction
I watched it, i kept falling asleep during the movie.
Just imagine the lack of beauty, genuine love, and any level of honesty if these people had complete control of everything.
Cats should really get together for a class action suit with all this defamation.
Cats are best.
IN THE END, SHE LEFT ROHAN. I wonder if Gandalf scold her for leaving Rohan.
feel sorry for wulf and helm really.... this is really disgrace
OMG. It's even worse than I thought.
He let go of a the son of a father he just slayed. That's already very bad writing...
They went full Teela.
I knew it. I was planning to go to the movie until not crap woke but then found out and was very disappointed
Everyone is going to forget this movie even existed within a year
No, I will not watch any more of the Lord of the "Dings."
Evil cannot create only corrupt what good creatures have already made
Hera is a greek name... that was already a bad omen on the rest...
i havent seen it yet, but i knew from the start that this would be weird, to say the least. Reading the comments and watch several videos my initial thought that only the LOTR trilogy, and edited Hobbit are the real deal, hasnt change. Having said that, i am not anxious for the next movies of this ''francise'' anymore. At least, i have my books to read.
Why is adult Hera not married? Nothing makes sense in feminist Hollywood? Is this not the exact same situation with Eowyn??
Tolkien's characters didn't marry as children, because he wasn't a creep, so it's not unusual that she's not married yet. Also Tolkien considered the idea of marriage as being almost something sacred in his stories, so he put great emphasis on the couple falling in love and choosing to marry each other. Arranged or forced marriages didn't end well in his stories. So Hera not wanting to marry that douche it's not so weird. What is almost anti Tolkien is her choosing not to marry at all, as those people were seen as having something wrong with them, almost like being cursed in his Universe.
@talyn7448in the books Helm rejected the marriage proposal because wulf was a creep.
I knew it!
For those that haven´t read ´For Steam and Country´ yet and hesitate, it is very similar to Lindsey Buroker´s Emperors Edge series.
quoting rihanna in the middle of tolkien so truthful to source materilol
And then there's Narnia for Netflix.
I will say marriage isn’t what it used to be. Now it’s more about money and assets rather than love and connections.
Funny enough it was like this in middle ages, Marriages served as way of seal alliances.
@ For the higher ups yes. I meant nowadays with the average Joe and Jane.
Actually, it has been like that for centuries, at least with the upper classes. Look up the biography of George Washington...who he truly loved, who he married and why.
Look at the history of royal marriage.
Matrimony (making a mother) was never primarily about the love and connection of two people. It was about children and family. Fathers would authorize a marriage for many reasons, love and connection were, at best, only one of the reasons.
oof what a mess it sounds like, with the ring stuff a dumb cherry on top
they took something superstitious and rare like a prophecy, hoping to turn it into a norm that the society would not and cannot tolerate.
I want to back to when watching anime was frowned upon. At least then we had good shit.
so bummed to hear this
Devs that work on Witcher 3 just announced a reveal for their game coming in January. Blood of the dawnwalker
She keeps saying the thing about marrying no man bc of the line that the woman says in return of the king. "No man can kill me" "i am no man!" Its a repeat of that
I'll just rewatch Records of Lodos War, Slayers and Frieren. All are made by Japanese authors who are very good creating.
It has many versions so I heard. Where should I start?
@srichael2713 start with the ROLW which was released 1990 and the closest LOTR theme
Thx for review. I’ll pass on the show. Better places to spend my time.
If J. R. R. Tolkien saw this... He would literally turn into Morgoth to smite the wokes that ruined his Magnum opus.
If you’re trying to BUILD UP a character, never tear down other characters for the sake of building up the main character.
Nobody will buy that shit
Is this what Phillipa thinks Eowin should have been?

This day and age, whenever you hear one of these writers/producers promise that ‘X’ won’t be woke, there’s a 99% chance that it will be woke.
Glad I skipped this crap and saved my money.
Woke fan fiction at its finest. Thank you and so many others for calling this out in entertainment books, movies and gaming.
I'm confused on one thing: Thorien was supposed to be a descendant of Helm Hammerhand. With Helm's sons dead and Hera not marrying any man - how can Thorien be Hammerhand's heir?
Theoden is the descendant of Frealaf, Helm’s sister son
Helms line ends. His nephew continues the line. Theoden is the seventh generation descendant of Frealaf Hildeson, Helms nephew.
Thanks for saving me the cost of a cinema ticket Jon
I bet one month later she returns back and complains why is there man in the throne and the patrarchy is bad
