"BOUNCY", try a 900 series in Iraq with little, if any, paved roads! God, I love GovPlanet and civilians driving military vehicles! FYI, all military vehicles are primarily designed as "tactical" vehicles. Sorry our horns aren't loud! FYI, once you're steering wheel gets old and swells, you will hit the horn and it will stay stuck down. We don't use it.
The mileage depends on a lot of factors but it is about 4 to 6 miles per gallon. So it does not qualify to drive in the carpool lane as a high MPG vehicle. Ha!
it depends what state you are in and how its registered , it can be tagged as a recreational vehicle and you don't or once it gets old enough you can tag it as historic anything else like if you were using it for a business then you would
Unless your driving for commerce, you dont need a CDL. However, the majority of states issue regular licenses that only covers up to the 26k/10k line and to go above that you have to get a non commercial class A/B license.
That thing probably drives just as well as the fire engine at my fire company. Got a Cummins ISX 15 with a 5 speed Allison. It has the same exact shift pad.
The top speed is 65MPH but that is because it is limited. The limiter is in software and if you disable the speed limiter then the truck could do 75 or 80 but the life of the engine is reduced.
I did not have any real issues registering. There is also a discussion about this on steel soldiers. My biggest issue is that Utah wants an emissions test every year. I tired to argue with them but it was not successful.
@@jakelogan7542 It is by county. There are 29 counties in Utah but only about 5 require gas personal vehicle emissions testing. It is the counties with the worse air pollution and the largest cities. As far as diesel, only 3 counties in the state require emission testing on diesel trucks: Salt Lake, Davis and Cache counties. Again, these are the counties with air pollution. I think that commercial vehicles need emissions testing every year in the 3 counties. Gas personal vehicles are every other year.
What a beast of a truck! What's the engine and transmission, Cat C12 with Allison HD4070? Can you please do a long driving video out on the highway? I'd like to hear it shift into high gear. Please let me know ASAP.
Yes, cat C12 and HD4070. I do have a video out there when i was driving to the desert. It is about 30 minute long and most of the time it is in top gear.
Spent about 3 years working on these during my time in.... those sounds are nostalgic to me actually thought they are great and easy to fix compared to what i work on now as a civilian.
Chase R, That is great to hear! Do you have any tips for us? We cannot get the repair manuals for these so we are just trying to figure it all out on our own.
Nah, its just because it sucks. The trucks are loud enough by themselves that noise discipline is a joke, but there is a black out switch that also disables the horn along with the head lights and main tail lights
If y’all have questions on anything let me know I work on these things every day. If you need a fuse panel diagram I have that too I know they can be a pain to find on the internet if you don’t have a technical manual
TonyBolognaBoy, it would be great to get any repair and tech info you have. We have a lot of trouble getting any documentation on these. My email is jon.bushey @ gmail dot com. I put it that way so the spammers will not be able to harvest my email. A fuse panel diagram would be great in addition to anything else.
Bro the engine Won't turn over rn and the transmission panel won't light up, when I first started it it started just fine and then like I said the trans panel wasn't lit and wouldn't change gears from neutral to drive so I turned the truck off to reset and now
On the steel solders web site there is a long discussion about needing a CDL to drive this 7 ton. You can check that out. But in my state, Utah, the DMV says I do not need a CDL because it is registered as a personal vehicle.
For the love of God, increase the idle RPM. It will build the air pressure in the system faster and get rid of that alarm
It has a high idle switch, you're supposed to let it warm up at 500-800 rpm when initially starting it for the day.
Im sittin here getting pissed cause they won't hit the high idle
It’s bad for the truck to put it in high idle when the truck first comes on
@@brianparker130it want do anything wrong
That startup gave me so much nostalgia. I miss those trucks so much. I’d trade my M36A2 that I just rebuilt or one of those any day.
Father son bonding in a loud ass truck while your dad is filming you. Love it! XD
The military doesn't use the headlights very often.
just rev the engine is all best way to get the air up. PLEASE don`t mess with the speed ! Engine should be at 2100 RPM`s top !
They’re fun when you mess with the governer, one of our mk23’s is broken so we speed down the expressway in okie sometimes

So for any one interested, skip to 4:43 for the actual drive
Turn on the high idle switch when your air pressure is low. It helps you build air pressure wayyyyy faster.
The mileage depends on a lot of factors but it is about 4 to 6 miles per gallon. So it does not qualify to drive in the carpool lane as a high MPG vehicle. Ha!
What if you load it up with 20 or 30 of your closest friends? :D
You have officially convinced me to buy one for myself.
Where’s your ground guide?
Broplem corners always
Don't you need a CDL with an air brake rating to drive this beast on a public road?
it depends what state you are in and how its registered , it can be tagged as a recreational vehicle and you don't or once it gets old enough you can tag it as historic anything else like if you were using it for a business then you would

Do you need me to show you how to operate the mk23 lol. I have thousands of hours of run time.
Whats there to show, build the air up, push the D button for drag race and flog the C12
If that's a new subdivision you live in they won't let you park the truck there, most new subdivisions won't let you park Military trucks.
That thing probably drives just as well as the fire engine at my fire company. Got a Cummins ISX 15 with a 5 speed Allison. It has the same exact shift pad.
Thanks for letting us know!!! Good works!!!
I'm hoping I can make enough Bitcoin so I can eventually get one of these trucks

What issues did you encounter with the DMV, if any, when registering with the SF97 title?
I did not have any real issues registering. There is also a discussion about this on steel soldiers. My biggest issue is that Utah wants an emissions test every year. I tired to argue with them but it was not successful.
@@probabilityfilms1911 Is there emissions testing for the whole state, or just if you live near certain cities?

9:08-9:10... that's not noise, that's music.
You’re supposed to wait for the air tank to purge
She is a beauty. How much did she cost you?
Without looking it up, I can tell you that the engine is a Caterpillar.
Yeah, those Cats have a very distinct sound.

Fuel consumption?
If you have to ask that question, keep driving your Prius.
