    you've literally done what I want to do in the future. Turn a vintage vehicle into something that has so much power, looks......GORGEOUS, has amazing handling and comfort while driving (with this truck, you can just tell that its amazing in those ways), and has modern technology integrated into it the vehicle (wifi hotspot, touchscreen nav, etc).

  • @brucebooher2288

    My background is vintage home restoration. When I go to a car show, I am amazed at how often I ask "why is that there?". When it comes to Icon, I never have a single question, only a hope, that someday I might get one. Jonathan does such a good job professionally explaining his craft.

    Wow...! I am a patina' lover myself....but you have some "Next Level" stuff going on with this truck! I know there is a fine line mixing old with new technology, but you have an eye for what works! I don't think most people understand the amount of hours of work that you have MODESTLY explained in this video. Just in the dash alone....WOW! You Sir, are a definite asset to the automotive industry!! Your Desoto Wagon is more my style....but I'm sure you have no problems finding customers for what any vehicle you offer! Great Work!!!

    This is one of the best trucks I have ever seen. What makes this truck above other customs is that all the custom work doesnt look custom. This is really really hard to do. Especially with the interior work and especially with the era. Incredible,awesome, what a rig!

    I had a '53 Chevy 3/4 ton (3600) 5 window that I got for a day's labor back in 1974. It was completely vandalized but I was lucky enough to have access to a pal's shop to rebuild the engine. I never put anything into the esthetics, it looked like a crappy old truck all the time I owned it. I sold it and the engine blew up about 1000 miles later, guess my rebuild wasn't the greatest.
    It's fantastic what you do to these old cars/trucks but you have to have $150K-$200K and maybe more in parts & labor in them by the time you're done. It's hard for me to understand the economics, but they are really works of art.

    These are incredible functional pieces of art, you're an incredible craftsman Mr. Ward. Thanks so much for sharing these vids.
    I have a 1953 deluxe cab 3100 myself, it was my first vehicle. My dad and I worked it over back in 1990, it isn't stock and looks like crap now but I plan on rebuilding it and modernizing it some day.

    its an awesome truck ,, i think icon has taken the custom car and truck business to a whole new level they are making dreams that you can drive with no worries and enjoy ,, this truck is testament to their ability to give the customer exactly what they want.. the entire operation is awesome from the ford broncos to the thriftmaster to their derelicts.. they just make awesome daily driven cars that work and function ,, i have been impressed ever since ive seen them on Jay lenos garage .. only if you could find me a 65 GTO wagon two door .. thats my dream car ,,,, RJ Swinder lead guitar of Creation Of Sound

    You should open a shop in Australia in order to ride the wave of automotive nostalgia going through the country now that the last major Australian car manufacturer has announced that they are shutting down in a few years. Offer classic FJs and a Holden or two and the entire country would cream it's self. Couple that with the overload of skilled workers who would willing to jump on board and the fact that Australia is far more suited to high quality low volume manufacturing for a local market in its current economic state and BOOM, you've got yourself another winning business. If you need a CEO, I'll be standing by.

    Hi Jonathan, I really enjoy your videos. Information I'm always wishing you'd include: How long each build takes and how much each vehicle costs. On this video I think you mentioned 10 months, so thanks for that. I get the impression these cars are in the $100k-$200k range. That wi-fi hotspot on this truck is fascinating, I gotta find out more info about that. On a separate note, regarding the derelicts: I'm assuming you must remove any rust off the chrome parts. There is a fabulous rust-demolishing product I want to bring to your attention if you're not aware of it: It's called Chromax. It's a delicious-smelling (wintergreen mint?) paste with abrasive crystals that are constantly breaking down into finer and finer bits. You barely have to exert any effort and the rust comes right off. It works on chrome, stainless, and several other metals... [Edit: Autonet Mobile!]

    Nice work on the build, I just wish it was a more unique model. The styling on these trucks is cool, the problem is it's such a common model that seeing them is nothing special and even a build of this high of caliber feels watered down compared to something a bit less common. It's like the classic mustang or camaro scene. I would probably like those too if there was not a zillion of them at every classic car gathering. Just my opinion.

    ...an exiting Retro driving experience you are offering, Sir! I am not in the position to criticize, however that panel hanging from the dashboard while using the digital functions, gives the impression of being damaged, a couple of loose cables would complete the image; why not using a reverse system like the one used by certain watch producers? Mind me, just my humble opinion, best regards!

    @jerryh5601 9 лет назад +2

    I love the look, but why on earth would put emissions CRAP on a vintage vehicle? I got into vintage cars/trucks 30+ years ago specifically to get away from all the govt mandated garbage new cars had, then quickly learned to love them for other reasons as well, such as their beautiful styling and how easy they were to work on. About 10 years ago I got into "patina" cars, old cars that still looked old and battered on the outside, but with totally reliable mechanical parts underneath. I have done 2 so far, still have the last one (1964 Ford Fairlane) and will probably keep it. While all the mechanicals are new, it has absolutely no electronics or emissions crap on it. New stock crate engine with a Holley four barrel, straight dual exhaust with glasspacks. I would not be afraid to drive it anywhere. I already have over 30,000 miles on it in 2 years.

    • @jerryh5601
      @jerryh5601 8 лет назад

      The very reason I'm into old cars is because I want no electronics or computers of any kind on them. I specifically have pre 1967 cars, because they are exempt from any kind of tampering laws and emissions testing. Other things have been upgraded, the Fairlane has a whole new rack and pinion front end with disc brakes. Because of the EPA, guys like me have been forced to use older cars. I used to have a '72 VW bug that I really loved, but it was such a nightmare getting it through the emissions test every year, I finally sold it. My carbureted cars are totally insignificant as far as emissions go.

There's nothing wrong with reproduction parts as long as they made to original factory specifications. Then again if I won the lottery.I would buy both of the truck original and a custom. Thanks
