I hate that I say this every time you build something new, but... this is my favorite! The color! The color is perfect! The entire spec is so well done and tasteful, my new dream car!
Without a shadow of a doubt, the most beautifully and tastefully executed build I've ever seen you review on the channel - and given your phenomenal standards for ICON...well, it's beyond words. An absolute class act of a truck by a class act of a guy.
Besides the love of all your trucks, whenever I watch these videos, I feel like I’m on the set of every movie, tv show or commercial ever filmed. Those mountain valley roads are iconic.
Another beautiful , functional rolling piece of art that is built to be driven. Thank you for the video and thank you so much for saving and bringing these trucks back to life my friend.
Being a 50s Chevy truck nut these are my favorite ICON's over even the FJ Land Cruisers! My first ever vehicle at 16 that I bought for 500 hard earned bucks was a 1950 three on the tree and I've owned a 51, 52, 53 and 54 and restored and sold them all. The 53 was the best of the bunch in my case. God I'd love to have that truck back and have this done to it! That is the dream truck right there! Great job once more guys!
For whatever reason, the one thing that keeps drawing my eye on this truck is that headliner. The headliner is just magnificent, well the truck in general is magnificent. There are a few tweaks here and there that I would have done differently, but this truck is nicely done. Absolutely beautiful.
Mr. Ward , I can only dream. Please let me know when you are feeling charitable. I already have a 1954 3100 TR donor. I love what your team is doing to these trucks.
The people who dislike this video and this beautiful rolling art should be publicly flogged with wet spaghetti noodles. That 0-60 time translates to approx 12.2 second quarter miles. Yowza.
Love your restorations, Would love to see one of the old trucks sitting up factory high tho. Not a fan of low boys. I appreciate those who do like the lowered look, but do a stock high one. Apologies if I’ve just missed those videos. God bless.
I love what you and your team do with these Trucks and I agree with you on the ride height. From aesthetics, it just looks right at that height and with those particular wheel diameter to tire side wall ratio. If I ever come into big money... I'll give you a call.
I know this is an older video, but on the off chance you read this Jonathan. Awesome job. Color! Excellent. But the tail lights are upside down. Check out the mirrors, totally nectar, but though the tail lights are the same design... whaaaa.... they should be inverted to mimic the mirrors. Love your work.
ICON workmanship is the best I have been working on my old car for years now I might as well give up when I see the finished product you produce but then again cubic dollars helps LOL
The bear claw kit that you are using is a pain to get correct as you stated, they are close but not close enough. After spending hours and hours trying to get them to not rattle I have gone back to stock latches on all our projects. Great videos and projects especially the derelicts. After 40 plus years of building and working on expensive hot rods, I have decided to build my 54 Studebaker truck in derelict fashion so I can enjoy it and not worry about paint!
Mag-freaking-nificent! The innovations to the bed were of particular interest. Has GM ever considered reoffering this? They probably would ruin it, now that I think about it. Congratulations to you and your team on a fine automobile!
Yakky Doodle sadly with modern safety requirements dictating so many of a vehicles dimensions GM couldn’t build this again even if they wanted to. Mr Ward gets to make this kind of awesome because the original chassis was built before those regulations existed.
How about a tonneau for the pickup bed? Anything clever that doesn't have ugly snaps everywhere? Curious why you didn't put leather on the steering wheel this time? Do you prefer the gloss exterior or the satin? The wood on the bed (charcoal process) is very much like the "torrification" process used on a lot of custom guitar necks. It makes the wood less likely to rot, etc., but the wood is also more brittle.
Really fine project Jonathon and his team completed who would want this awesome vintage pickup truck me for one, look it cost nothing to dream if our good Lord wants me to be blessed with a project like this then the good Lord will.bless me with one in.the meantime I pray the person that is blessed with this fine project takes good care of the truck keep up with the.maintenance and wash and shine it often it will last a good long time thanks for showing us RUclips people the project.😊
Do you ever not mess with the original badging and trim? The hood chrome leaves a lot to be desired. Those old logos are some of the best to be just tossing them away.
Chevy Thriftmasters ran 47-55, not 47-53 Mr. Ward. That being said, I wish I were wealthy enough to have you build one for me. Your TR crew does very nice work. I'd rather drive one of these, than a Corvette.
Also, if you want to do a Derelict Thriftmaster, I'd look into the '54-'55 Chevy "First Series" trucks. Same truck, just slightly different in some design aspects. Curved windshield, cross-hair grille, and a couple other differences. Pretty rare, and would make a killer Derelict.
Brilliant execution of concept as per usual. Not a fan of the glossy finish; matte seems more appropo for period truck (IMO.) I do, however, like the near black deep green pigmentation tho. Mad props!
Jonathon, Killer job on the truck. Truly applaud your teams attention to detail. It urges me to excel, in my own craft. Would love to have coffee sometime, if I am ever in that part of the country. Keep up the good work and Happy Thanksgiving. JTOrlando, F-LA
I would like to see your ideas come to product for these trucks, and please let us know what works and what doesn't/didn't especially on the the window rubber.
Ohh man i cant belive what do you do..... its my dream truck of all times several years dreaming about this chevy ... and you made it posibly even better than i dream ... keep up with the great job your done so far ... amazing products ... beyond actual cars ... i love it to the bone ... the others trucks are amaxing too ... i love your dodges .. even i dont like this models .. i hope your can makeit for a long long time ... because yours good taste is from another planet ... great great job
I have the same issue with my window weather stripping on my 52. What vendor did you find that has quality rubber for the driver, passenger and vent weather stripping?
Wow!! Love the detail involved in building. How did you get started? Were you a mechanic? Engineer? These are the types of rebuilds I would love to do... classic cars and trucks with modern accessories. Bad ass!
Why stamp the icon on the tailgate? You can beadroll that and way more complicated designs with an electric bead roller at about 1.5k. Other than that, the truck is amazing.
Jonathan Ward correct- I guess the better statement would be “why not stamp”. Using a bead roller could get your custom logo in the panel- unless you are just more after the etched look anyways. Great truck though- gives me some great ideas!
What about collapsing steering column? P.S. If you want the original body and you have body-on-frame construction, there’s no way to make these as safe as a modern vehicle. You would have to engineer something that resembles an old vehicle but isn’t, for instance (blech) PT Cruiser, etc. But that’s not the point of an Icon!
Replayed it a couple of times but could not get the name of the company of the taillights used on this great pickup. ----- Automotive. Around the 5.20 mark into the clip.
Have you ever thought of doing a big bodied mid to late 60's Merc or Ford fastback or Convertible? If I had the chance I would have you do a 67 Merc. Parklane Convertible to your OCD Standards! Haha A Mercedes quality top of course!
Do you have to have an original truck before you can build and sell these? Or, can you purchase all...parts from vendors of differnt parts, assamble one, and sell for profit?
If I remember correctly, I believe he once said that he tried one of the reproduction bodies and they just weren't as solid as the old originals. That's kind of a bummer.
I hate that I say this every time you build something new, but... this is my favorite! The color! The color is perfect! The entire spec is so well done and tasteful, my new dream car!

Those mountain valley roads are iconic.
Those seats are simply breathtaking. They go so well with the exterior color.

Mr. Ward, you are truly doing God's work. Complete and total perfection. Thank you for creating these masterpieces.
The people who dislike this video and this beautiful rolling art should be publicly flogged with wet spaghetti noodles. That 0-60 time translates to approx 12.2 second quarter miles. Yowza.
J. Ward is starting to drive like Tom Nelson of NRE.
wheels are too big
Excellent job, one of my favorite Icon's in your series.
Always like a new upload from you, Jonathan! Looking forward to a future video about that '65 Kaiser Wagoneer I saw on your Instagram.
Love your restorations, Would love to see one of the old trucks sitting up factory high tho. Not a fan of low boys. I appreciate those who do like the lowered look, but do a stock high one. Apologies if I’ve just missed those videos. God bless.
I'm in love with the Grill on these Thriftmasters.
I could watch these videos all day
love the color on this one
Beautiful and classy.
I only tolerate black on my stuff and this color is a fucking revelation.
HUGE LOVE for these Thriftmaster trucks.. " Maximum Geek Out ".. Beyond Cool..
Absolutely beautiful perfection in re-engineering and design.
I love what you and your team do with these Trucks and I agree with you on the ride height. From aesthetics, it just looks right at that height and with those particular wheel diameter to tire side wall ratio. If I ever come into big money... I'll give you a call.
You are a true artist. Your work is amazing. Somehow, someday, I hope to own one of your masterpieces.
You had fun with this one...love the green!
Another amazing piece of Icon artwork!
That woodwork is amazing.
ICON workmanship is the best I have been working on my old car for years now I might as well give up when I see the finished product you produce but then again cubic dollars helps LOL
Your creative genius evident. Beautiful truck!
Love the truck builds. Building a 53 GMC 5 window myself. Cant wait until I can drive it. love it.
Love this one. The finish inside and outside is stunning.
"Pond Scum Green" I love it!
If I wasn't 68 with failing eyesight and sketchy dexterity I go apply for a job at ICON building Thriftmasters.
How about build it over chevy napco 4x4 ? Must be one of the kind project.
Beautiful balance of tech and style
Total perfection to every nut and bolt. Rad old style wheels
Amazing step by step process, becoming this stunning vehicle! Congrats to everyone at Icon! You guys are the bomb!
That's my retirement truck one day fingers crossed.Nice build love these videos.
this is my fav of all your builds
Great Truck Jonathan. Thanks for sharing.

I love the seat. I am building a 53 5 window and would love to know what seat you used and where I can get Wow such a clean old truck
Love this color of bison seat
this triftmaster interior in an fj must be beautiful.
I like the double din better in the dash then in the armrest
Really great job.wish you had discussed the rear view mirror it looks well engineered along with the leer jet visors.
Can't hear you over the exhaust rumble. Missed your usual excellent detailed narration!
I would like to see the front hood emblem perpendicular to the grill. Truck still beautiful as is.
We had a 49 GMC farm truck that was almost that same color. It had been used to haul harvested wheat. Hated to sell it, but we had no more use for it.
I appreciate your ideas and how you heip them live
Do you ever not mess with the original badging and trim? The hood chrome leaves a lot to be desired. Those old logos are some of the best to be just tossing them away.

Great choice on the color, it truly looks black most of the time
when will you do a 2.8 cummins build?
Nice work as always! Could you tell me what sunglasses are you wearing?
Also, if you want to do a Derelict Thriftmaster, I'd look into the '54-'55 Chevy "First Series" trucks. Same truck, just slightly different in some design aspects. Curved windshield, cross-hair grille, and a couple other differences. Pretty rare, and would make a killer Derelict.

Wicked ride... perfectly executed.
Love the work. Would you consider a power rear window?
Jonathon, Killer job on the truck. Truly applaud your teams attention to detail. It urges me to excel, in my own craft. Would love to have coffee sometime, if I am ever in that part of the country. Keep up the good work and Happy Thanksgiving. JTOrlando, F-LA
The most beaultiful Icon TR.
I wonder if brine etching would work on something as large as a tail gate, and work better than acid etching?
Just killing it as usual 👀
Nice truck! I preferred the colors of #5 over this one
Really dig that matte finish. Still as usual...beautiful work!
I would like to see your ideas come to product for these trucks, and please let us know what works and what doesn't/didn't especially on the the window rubber.
Very nice but why so little clearance inderneath? What to do with a usd 250000 (?) truck that cant pass a speed bump
Someone must need a Thiftmaster w/ an LT4
Love these old trucks
Would you consider a '49 Ford "Shoebox"? Possibly as a Derelict?
Wierd vibrations may be controlled by a mass damper perhaps? Love the Icon vehicles!
Nice job. Next one you do please honk the horn I would like to hear what it sounds like.

I have to ask this, because I know I cant afford it.......this...this masterwork....how much? about?
merci beaucoup à toutes l'équipe ICON

do you put any safety elements in these older cars? Seatbelts. airbag in steering wheel, abs?

Anybody who dislikes his work I have one question - "could you do better?" Of course the honest answer is NO.
I want this build but with a ford flathead and a 48 ford pickup
Replayed it a couple of times but could not get the name of the company of the taillights used on this great pickup. ----- Automotive. Around the 5.20 mark into the clip.
Gojeep Sure sounds like he said Greening Automotive. I assume this is them: www.greeningautocompany.com
Have you ever thought of doing a big bodied mid to late 60's Merc or Ford fastback or Convertible? If I had the chance I would have you do a 67 Merc. Parklane Convertible to your OCD Standards! Haha
A Mercedes quality top of course!
Mr.Ward what do you charge to change a 53 Chevy step side Pick up !!
YOU ARE THE WAVE thanks
You're an empowering guy☯️👍 re: wood guy
who is the supplier for the Steering Wheel? Looking for something for my 55 BelAir
A 5 window!! Love it!!
Can you make those with a bed lid or box ?
Can it go over speed bumps, asking out of pure curiosity, and the fact that its very low to the ground.
ok thats great thank you.
does this have a flaming river or ididit column? collapsible?
Great truck! You have a sunglasses addiction. How many pairs?
Do you have to have an original truck before you can build and sell these? Or, can you purchase all...parts from vendors of differnt parts, assamble one, and sell for profit?
If I remember correctly, I believe he once said that he tried one of the reproduction bodies and they just weren't as solid as the old originals. That's kind of a bummer.
Do you have a paint code for this color?
Need a better mic to compensate for the exhaust drone.
jay-sus ~ maybe keep da front (glass) sig covers w/o the disco lights ? por-favor
beautiful cruiser
Jonathan, is the Thriftmaster available as a RHD?
Get the Roller rolling!
I love the tailgate!!!!!!
Did you send any car to Europe?
But I already own two 3-window trucks and 5-windows are nearly impossible to find.....
