Having been a yarn crafter for nearly 50 years, I've never blocked anything. I always thought it was too much like hard work, but now that I've seen how much better a project looks after being blocked, I think I'll have to rethink this whole blocking thing...ya never know, it might just make a difference to some of the gear I make too. ;)) Thank you Toni for explaining it so clearly, and making it look so easy to do. :))
@@amypetty5013 as someone who can't afford expensive yarn, I work exclusively with very inexpensive acrylic or cotton...I wash everything in cold water, with anything that might be a bit delicate(in either stitch or style) going into a wash bag or pillow case, and never had any problems with anything losing shape... I owned exactly 1 non-acrylic yarn garment, it accidentally got put in the dryer and came out about the right size for a 18" doll...so no, I don't have problems with not blocking anything, and the shape holds just fine...ta very much...
First of all, LOVE the seductive soak music 😂😂 Second of all, this was SO helpful!! I was always intimidated by wet blocking but this makes it easier to confront doing.
I had not knitted in 10 years. And had never needed to block a project. Just finished a baby blanket that needs blocking. Searched and watched several videos and yours was the best!!! Short, sweet and entertaining. Just set my 20 minute timer. I don’t have cats, so my dog will get my attention and pets 😊. Maybe I’ll take up crocheting to follow you more!
Love the video. I've never blocked, but I will be starting. What truly amazed me was your kitties. If I had left a project to dry overnight, it would have been unpinned, full of hair and probably hidden somewhere!

Kathi Johnson back in the fifties when 100%. wool was used, my mother knit everything. When the sweaters etc were washed, they were placed flat on a towel or even newspaper under the carpet and were walked on for days before they were dry. Now this was in Scotland and at that time we had one fireplace as our only source of heat and the papers never lost any ink so they had many uses. Thanks for the memories. I use mostly blends or acrylic or anything that can be machine washed and dried. I am happy to be a baby boomer and I appreciate the many conveniences available to me as I aged. Stay safe😷😷

Toni thank you for your tutorial on blocking. Very helpful. I don’t have any animals and crochet in a clean, smoke-free environment, but personally I still feel hand soaking the crochet item and blocking is a great idea. We handle our projects, sit them on our lap and move them around where we sit to knit or crochet. Giving them a little freshening just feels right. I’m also a soap maker so the importance of washing hands is priority. The oils from our hands transfer a bit to the yarn and I know I’m now being extremely crazy, but it’s all about gifting or selling the item fresh, blocked and ready to go. It just makes it feel complete. Great job 👏 thanks again.

Thank you for sharing this. I always start blocking by first washing my projects in the washing machine at the laundrymat. Was looking for a more efficient way to do this . I never would have thought to soak in dishwashing liquid. And I definitely would have wrung it out. You saved this scarf and labor of love. I also love comedy behind the scenes.😂

Thank you. I've got several projects I have finished over the last year (2?) that need to be block. A couple shawls. I have never block. I read up on it, saw why I would want to do it, bought the supplies, did projects that should be blocked..... And here I am 1-2 years later and while I've "finished" the projects I still haven't blocked them!! Maybe now that I've seen it with my own eyes, I'll finally get them done. Not hard. Thought I am going to be hard pressed to find the room for my shawls.

I am new to knitting and am making a wrap. Even though I am following the instruction I noticed it does not look like the picture. At the bottom of the instructions it said to wet block it. Watching this makes me see that that is all my wrap is going to need. Thanks

I never block either. So if you wash it do you have to block or dry in this way each time?
@@cristelasoto-cdle84 yup! in a way you’re technically “blocking” it everytime you wash, so you’ll have to dry it flat as well.

When you wrap your project in a towel, put it on the floor and step on it.That gets out a lot more water and doesn't hurt it at all.
