I think the wind plays a big factor on the impact pressure to the 4 points on the trunk lid. Another commenter said without the rack he had 30 lbs packed on the trunk lid without issues. That makes sense. The rack is really for looks Because at highway highway speed with a sail of a bag on there, those 4 points will collapse eventually.
As we all know. Anything incorrectly used may work 1x or for a limited time before product failure. That doesn’t make it wise to do it when it’s clearly stated by the Manufacturer that you should not. Some people think they know better. For them there is dumb and dumber.
I heard 20 lbs is fine on the new rack for the ‘21 model. I have not installed mine yet, because I’d like to powder coat it to match my bike. Anyone have experience with this on the ‘21 model?
Just installed a rack from Showchrome that is actually for the previous generation GW but it fits. I think it said it was rated for 10lbs but like you mentioned the actual trunk of the new wing is plastic.
Yup, the weight of the rack is really limited, it's best function is the brake light,, then converted with a running light.. 👍on the good packing job,, I like the idea of putting an item under the tour pack.
I have strapped 30lbs in a bag on my 2019 Goldwing trunk with no rack. 30,000 plus miles in the last 16 months with no issues.
A near $30k motorcycle for 30k+ miles over 16 months and no rack? Just strap it down like the Beverly Hillbillies. 😂 Beautiful. 😂
