hello! Greetings from Colombia, I have a question, do you change the water directly from the tap?
Hey, in case someone hasnt already let you know, you've got 2 types of lotuses in your tank! The one on the right is a green tiger lotus, whilst the other is a red tiger lotus. So regardless of light and dosing the right lotus won't turn as red as the other :)
Please keep doing the, “so I entered the studio like I do everyday” bit! Soooo funny
Also love your content
I love how he keeps entering the room "like he does every day" and it's always different
Same here 🤗
Exactly hahaha
I think it's my favorite.... can we start getting like cosplay MD? I'd love to see him come in as the Terminator or a cowboy 🤣🤣🤣
‘Be gentle when you’re cleaning out your pipework’. That Made me giggle
me too when I was editing...I thought i'd let it be though 🤣🤣

It's great to see Timmy doing so well! And those white cloud mountain minnows look stunning!
Like I do everyday! "let's just chill out for a minute" - LOL!
Hummm ,”we can get it off, some we just rub with our finger and we can get it off “ , favourite tip so far lol. Love the tank and content though . It looked good on api talk last night
thanks mate
I love the way you've been coming into your studio "as you usually do". I get a laugh every time.
Love the dramatic 007 start! Was so worried when I saw the title
What a cheerful, uplifting channel!! addicted since the beginning of this week.... thank you.
I've been following you almost from the start and your videos have everything ! Great tanks, editing, instructions and your lovely personality! Hope you still find it rewarding and can keep going (on whatever scale)! Greetings from Stockholm
Mate ! Thankyou, thankyou , thankyou,thankyou.
I have exactly the same problem and it's exactly what is happening to you, i.e only where the strongest light is.
I was on the verge of starting again.
Now I know what to do thanks to you and your brilliant videos.
Best wishes,Matt
"make sure your being gentle when your cleaning out your pipe work"... 🤣🤣 Had me in stitches 🤣🤣
Greetings! This is a common problem in our aquariums. The author put it in an understandable form, for which many thanks to him!
The first video I have watched in a while. Good to see MD still delivering quality 👌
I am having that diatoms phase right now and watched this video three times on the last week. I love how you say it is normal and it has to happen, while everyone else (other videos) says "you are mistaking something, your tank balance is off".
I choose to believe you ;-)
Starting to turn into a spectacular African river tank MD 👌🏼
Thanks so much for this video update! It was actually an educational video for me.
I'm always so smiley and happy after watching your videos. My lovely daughter says her grouchy old father can watch your videos as much as he wants.
I've been told to try and stir the sand around if you can without messing up the scape, the diatoms eat silicates in the water from the sand and when they run out of silicates they die off. It does get fueled by light as well so I usually dim the white light a bit to help control them. Thanks for doing this video. I see a lot of people feeling out over it as well.
Timmy’s tank looks so good! Love the massive ferns 👍
Love your videos, love your tanks. You have mad skills when it comes to design. I wish you lived close to my house and could come and set up a tank for me! Seriously, I have such respect for you and am learning a lot watching your videos. You're really making me want to try my hand at fish keeping again. It was especially encouraging watching you set up a smaller tank and still have such great success. I was under the impression that a much larger tank would be easier to take care of because of the larger volume of water. The largest tank I ever had was a 29 gallon long. About 10 years ago, I was almost ready to go out and buy a 55 or 75 gallon tank. I'm very glad now that I didn't. Keep the great content coming, I'll keep watching! Cheers!
Love the way you come into the studio everyday 😂😂
finally got up early since to catch the MD video while it's fresh! I Love your videos, and you've helped me so much to learn about aquascaping and making my tanks. Thank you, keep making great content!
LOL, "While it's fresh" That was cute!
Thanks for the update on TIMMY!
Cool to keep up with this as I setup a 4 foot planted 4 weeks ago.
Ugh! Thank you so much for this. This happened to me my first new tank in years and I was so worried I'd done something wrong! It's looking much better now, tho.
Highlight of my week is watching you walk into your studio in the normal way.
@MD Fish Tanks for the more delicate or whispy leaves a 1" or 2" paintbrush works great
First of all.. I love your african river scape, my favorite is still the amazon 4ft scape you made🤩.. I really like the way you do things.. For new people in the hobby who may be sad, fustratet or just give up seeing their tank like that, though most of your wievers we know, that diatom algae. Is a tank child disease that will pass, you show them that they can remove a lot of them, with a tooth brush a waterchange and some patience, i love it❤.... And by the way, patience are problably the most important thing for a fishkeeper as you Know.. And for a keeper of any animal i think. Keep up your inspiring and fantastic work👍💪
Loving these new intros 🔥🔥
Isnt it funny how when you first start out theres so many chemicals, so many new words to learn and so much to read.
But eventually it all boils down to "Waterchange and check again tomorrow. Repeat until problem goes away"
All the tanks look great.
MD!!!! Loved seeing you live on insta with API!! You should go live more often and answer peoples questions, your advice would be great
Your introductions are fantastic 😃
I do the same ( fish in cycle ) with a lot of testing and water changes when needed after testing and just a minimal amount of fish . The tank cycles perfectly with no harm to the fish . Works just fine
9/10 entrance score 🤣 needed a drop and roll for difficulty rating 🤣 another good video covering new syndrome and some of the fixes 👍
I first subscribed for his beautiful tanks and his helpful tips...but now it is for seeing how he enters his fish room everyday! LOL!!!
I loved the editing on this video :D
Definitely loving the "like I do every day" bits lately! 🤣🤣
Hi MD! Thanks for all of your content!
In the previous African River video you fed a lot of bloodworms. The bloodworm is a heavy food, some species can suffer from stomach disease if they eat it every day (just like you if you eat stew every day). Be careful, maybe this cause the huge algae outbreak.
Tiger lotus comes in two different genetic variants. One is red and the other one green, its the same plant they are both the same type of tiger lotus but they can have those colour differences. I've also got a green and a red one in my tank. You can't chance the colour of the green one.
Yepp, that's what I had to learn, too. 😉 But I do love both of them. 💖
Hey MD, i’ve been collecting plants, driftwood, and rocks for months and finally i’m ready to take down my 60 gallon tank and move it to a new stand with a better light and a WAY better hardscape, also removing the chinese algae eater who ate all my plants previously. if you see this comment keep an eye on your instagram dm’s in the coming week, i’d love to hear your thoughts. I built a new type of filter for it that you could try to put your own spin on someday. it’s basically a wooden hang on the back filter covered in flex seal with plants growing from the top of it, and the part the water runs down towards the tank is covered in pond foam with flower pots imbedded and lava rock and driftwood in the foam so that it’ll be a moss-covered waterfall with plants growing from it
"New Growph." Love it!
the riccia looks beautiful
Thanks again for the beautiful video and your great explanation of the phases a new setup must make its way through. Most people struggle and give up the hobby thinking the tank is a failure.
This video is so encouraging! 👍
Talking about bolbitis. I have the same problem. The Java ferns explode in my tanks (yes, MTS 🤫), but bolbitis and trident struggle.
Is there any idea how to solve that?
I still love this setup, too. May be you should try to put some algae eater and cories.
Early crew. 2minutes!! Go MD
Looks amazing
Brown diatoms will clear within a few weeks. They are nothing to panic about. It's to do with the silica from your sand. Cyanobacteria, now that's another matter entirely.
more content like this pls. like a journey of your aquarium, problems etc.
Been watching this guys tank videos all day trying to figure out the best scape for my 60 gallon tank for my turtle and fish
My version of a fish in cycle is using sponge filters to grow plants such as anubiases and Java ferns and only when the plant starts to spread can I take the sponge out and start a new tank with it. It works well for me. You get biological media (sponge) and a growing plant. My 2 for 1 aquarium cycle special
I have a few minnows I keep around to help cycle tanks, especially ones that won't have fish for a while.
"So i've come into the studio like I do everyday"
***proceeds to point guns at the fishes***
Hi MD,
What media bags do you use? I ordered some that you listed in the affiliate link, but they arrived and seem much smaller than those in the video (they are like 6"x8"). Love the tanks and videos!
I thought i was immune to this. 😂 Just had this yesterday and it's funny coz the tank is setup for about a month already.
such a great channel. won't snails take care of all that b4 it happens? least that's what i use ... i love the ramshorn snails. ✌✌
@md love all your tanks
Love it 😀 😍❤
*Bro..that intro was hilarious 🤣. But on a serious note algae isn't as bad as everyone thinks in fact it means that your tank in maturing nicely and even though it's not asthethic it's necessary for a healthy tank.*
Best entrance yet 🤣
I love the way you enter the room lmao
@MD fish tanks, what type of filtration do you use in your planted tanks? HOB, Sponge, Sump or Canister?
I’ve come into the studio like I normally do, ready to snipe diatoms with my finger guns!
The problem with where I live is that I have ammonia in my tap water. Fish in cycles aren't possible here because any ammonia I take out in a water change is just back in from the tap water.
Fishless cycles are safer anyways so I'm happy to wait a few weeks or however long it'll take me.
A very good point. We need to test our tap water before we do anything.
@@MDFishTanks while I have ya here, you should do a pair of electric blue acaras in a South American tank next!
@@NihilusTheGreat 😉
@@MDFishTanks I just set up a 40 breeder with two and a hillstream loach. I'm loving the setup. I'm sure you will too!
I totally agree about the fishless cycle !
Not a fan of fish in cycles.
Feels a bit cruel to gamble with the life of fish.
But you dont do waterchanges to remove ammonia though.
Should be dealt with by your bacteria in your filter right ?
Sucks doesn't it? Constant maintenance with F/W, even more with S/W. Done my time battling in the trenches with both. Best of luck brother.
The bags you used for the Aquasoil are the zip-up "DEPEPE" bags from Amazon?
cool tank
There's a nut at the roots of the right Tigerlotus. It's not supposed to be placed into the ground. In this case, the nut can rot and the plant can't grow and the balance in the water can be destroyed. You should plant the nut maximal 2/3 into the ground to prevent it from rotting
Floating plants will also use ammonia selectively over other nitrates since they don't have to break it down (hence ammonium land based ferts) assuming they have the light and enough CO2
This is happening to me right now as well! I can’t wait until it goes away lol
where do you get your water changing system that takes out the water and fills it back up? Im looking for where to get one.
Jumanji's calling.🥁
I have 2 tiger lotus as well and the one closer to my filter always tends to grow better and has more red. Not sure why as they use the same substrate too
Flow, they like good flow
Hey MD what kind of lights do you have on that 4ft tank??
hi would a shrimp/snail clean up crew help with the 'diatoms'?
How do you stop your water from evaporation as you have an open tank or do you just top up off camera, my tank tends to evaporate....
Thanks
I had this problem with my tank. It was just a 10 gal but I didn’t repeat the process I just let it be and after a good few days it cleared up a little bit. My plants are like this some leaves are what seems dead but it went so far then stopped. But freshwater that is to be expected
Do you treat your water with Prime before adding water or doing a water change? I always just see you fill up straight from the tap
Are the kribs not going to dig down to the nutrient layer? I gave mine tons of caves and they have a thick layer of sand and they still dig down to the glass.
My guess with that plan color is because its closer to the outlet of the water from the filter as one has a heater in all plants need some heat.
MD‘s studios are heated 😉
will you give us tips on how you care for timmy?
MD, You should use an electric toothbrush instead of a normal toothbrush for the tank scrubbing, and don't worry about water, it is waterproof. The reason why one of your tiger lotuses is green is because it is the green form.
How are the specs of your 30W LED Spot Lights? Is it pure white or warm white? How many Kelvin and Lumen? I appreciate your answer, because I love to use your great idea, too. Cheers, Dieter. P.S.: Please keep on with your fresh, unconventional and funny videos. Your way to talk and showing your excitement is contagious! I love it 😍
Don't quote me, but I heard you have to specifically ask for the red lotus as the come in a green form too.
Do you think you will ever do a tank with killi fish, the rocket panchax loves a planted aquarium!
How long can you keep that tank running with all those nutrients capped at the bottom? i.e. without redoing the tank or adding new substrate
Loving Timmy's tank! ❤ but it makes me wonder where poncho is? His tank was soooo similar and I miss his cute axolotl face!
Pancho passed away 😢
Md with the comedy lol
Where are you taking the new water from.
Had the same thing with one green one red tiger lotus on opposite sides on the tank, conditions seemed the same. Would love to know why it does this....
Will Plecos clean the diatoms ?
My aquarium Lilly is red in the shade but as the leaves break the surface they turn green, so maybe it is the lighting? 🤷🏻♀️
A Big 👍
Have you, or do you ever use a diatom filter?
What is this i dont know kind of grass or moss on roots and on sand?
I presume it’s the light reflecting off the glass that’s providing the environment for that red to pop out.
This wouldn't be something that gets to this point over night would it? I have to think that you (the tank owner) would see it start forming before it gets to that point and you can start clearing it sooner.
Ive a nano tank with with sand substrate but my plants arent doing well but your tanks seems to be doing great in sand substrate. anybody knows why. (i dont use root tabs but i do dose liquid fert to supplement the inert substrate). any help would be appreciated
