I reminisce when I was a kid working with my dad who was an electrical contractor. He gave me a skilled trade that I am forever grateful for. Enjoy those times!
A few times had a cheap homeowner wanted a few receptacles & wall sconces installed on exterior walls that were plaster over red brick. Told them that I would have to hammer drill & chop out a nice deep opening to install conduit and oh yes I do not do any plaster repairs. But but my buddy said it was an easy 5 or 6 hour job. Great call your buddy.
I am no electrician or plumber or any qualified tradesman BUT I know that when a client says it is a five minute job I turn around and run... Because with my many years of experience doing minor repairs, and or emergencies I have realized that it never takes five minutes. It takes more than five minutes just to assess wiring problems or any other repair.
I have encountered those HGTV customers and some of them get this fantasy that these projects should be simple and cost effective. They don't realize that there could be existing problem before you even get started.
I’ve had to cut and add power in slabs for floor plugs and islands totally possible if post tension have to get cables marked and un tensioned if rebar no need
You mentioned that if you have concrete slab you can't do an island... can't you cut the concrete, run conduit, and fill the concrete back in? I mean, it'll be cost-prohibitive, but it's not impossible, right? (unless it's a post-tensioned slab, I suppose).
Just loved when a cheap carpenter or general contractor had a $40 to $50K kitchen make over. Never wanted to spend money to run home runs for new appliances they never had such as a microwave, wine cooler, dishwashers , gang of new hi hats etc.
Yes, unrealistic expectations because they only figured on a single circuit for the island. Once you figure in the rest... and the cleanup work for renovations that adds quite a bit. At least they got lucky with the panel being right on the other side of the wall!
Best electrical channel so far! Love that you talk pricing. Ya definitely hooked me in the first minute of no bullshit when you said, “we just are taking down a wall...” Ya, piece of cake... And shouldn’t crawl spaces be outlawed?
Quite a few customers of mine think that running wires, adding plugs or lights is no effort without damage, or just plain magic! It's quite funny what you run into. They watch a few reno TV shows or youtube videos and think, ahh it's not that hard. 1-2 hours outta do it lol
I agree. Sometimes they think people of the trades are magicians. Or the customer knows more than you. And can't understand why it could not be done a certain way
Just signed up for you video’s. I definitely heard what you said about this job and what customers try to make it sound like NP. You definitely had a lot to contend with and Glade you had an attic and craw space Great job👍
Have worked for a few people like that, mostly general contractors, all you to do is this and this. I Enjoy your videos! My area is not using 2020 code yet so you can get by with way to much sometimes.
i feel you bruh, that what im into just right now and worst is the client is from france and dares to ask for an european plug on a full fed pioneer 100 amp panel
Holy sh*t Peterson that job looks like a pain in the ass...I had a "quick and easy" customer just last week that was a complete disaster cluster... Yea customers are clueless.
Glad you're back. Why not try to be a little more user friendly. For example, the required number of outlets on a kitchen island you said look it up yourself. Are you addressing DIY'ers or professionals? Professionals already know this information or should know it. If you're trying to help people, please do that. You've got a lot of knowledge. Share it in a nice way.
I think having his target audience look it up is the smart move. He's targeting electricians and most do not know " how to look it up" they are learning. " Look it up" is a common response because apprentices need to learn and JWs need to be reminded to not rely on rule of thumb. And I can almost certainly guarantee you his videos aren't for DIY ers.... they only make things dangerous and more difficult to fix.
The customer is going to pay the drywaller or the electrician. Less damage is more money for me! That said I don't claim to judge this project every job is different and its impossible to know without being there, working on it.

Thanks for passing it forward. 🙂
The "I'm an Electrician, not a Magician" t-shirt makes perfect sense, now.
I am glad you are back posting videos on RUclips and sharing your knowledge with us.

Your videos are getting better man
New to your channel, good stuff. I like when customers ask me to "just pop in" a new outlet or light, etc. just pop it in... poof, magic.
They are all idiots.

"All You Got to Do Is....." I knew a contractor that put that on his business shirts.

i hate it when they run the wires though the buildout for the cabinets lol. I've seen that more than once and i'm only in my 4th year.
Could you guys go over a typical tool load out you carry? Appreciate the videos!
Dude, your videos rock!
Best Electrician, other that some at NASA, that there is. Thanks.
i feel you bruh, that what im into just right now and worst is the client is from france and dares to ask for an european plug on a full fed pioneer 100 amp panel
People just think you could just rig something up and say it's that easy but they forget you have to comply with If accordance to the NEC.
Has CO adopted nec 2020?

Electrician rhymes with magician, so some customers think we should be able to do a job like that for $100. ...or less. ...in an hour.
That client is right. 15min tops
Problem here is you'r loosing too much time making VDO on this regular job.I did not LIKE,BELL OR anything else.
