Not necessarily they don't have resus teams and if anything goes wrong during a private surgery you then have to be rushed to an NHS hospital a lot of people don't make it.

No. I had private insurance and used it to jump the long queue. I had to go to some remote hospital, still had to wait for quite a long time for the procedure and Bupa hospital was awful. Never again and I no longer have private insurance, not worth it.

No choice today, my own family members left the NHS, one after 43 years of service. I can not say why on here. I can say that patient care has long gone and is now profit before care.
Starmer should prepare for his families demise if he is telling the truth! It is also no longer the NHS - it should be transparently rebranded as the GHS, global health service that operates within the UK.

The point of free healthcare is to provide the opportunity of healthcare for people who can't afford it. We say it is for all so that it is uncontestable that those people who don't work or can't afford it have the right to free healthcare. So I don't think it is one step away as that "person X" belongs to the income class which is the reason free healtcare exists and needs to exist. Obviously the rich should be allowed to use it too as discriminating on income either way is controversial. But what positive impact would it have. With private healthcare, they'd be shortening waiting lists for the NHS and helping the economy by spending in the private sector. Their greater contribution may make that negative impact on the NHS look smaller in contrast to that contribution but would not change the fact that it is a negative impact nonetheless. You could argue it draws doctors away from the NHS which would be a potential argument but that's not what you're arguing here. @charleslatrom7658
