This two part series is a fantastic overview of our hearing system and how to evaluate audio equipment based on their sound. Hans, you have put in tremendous effort to create such concise material! To all the viewers: Hans gives us extremely valuable tools, and the best advice you can get for your audio journey. His educational videos are absolutely superb, very professional, reference quality. Thank you Hans! :)
Blush, blush...
I just wanted to say thank you for the time and effort you put into making these particular two videos, as they have easily become some of the most informative and educational I've come across in my audiophile journey, which makes them some of the most valuable. Thank you for teaching me how to listen, and thus make more sense of the jargon other RUclipsrs toss around that they very few ever take the time to define.
Glad you like them!
Once again excellent advice from a true connoisseur! Thanks Hans!
Excellent 2 part series on hearing.... There are a couple of details you mentioned I never thought about but are quite true in reality.
👍🏼
Thanks for your wisdom on evaluating audio equipment, Hans. Its kinda weird how some pop recordings are chock full of vocal sibilants and yet once I switch the CD or LP to a Mozart string quartet recording, my set up sounded immediately closer to a real live performance.
Thank you, Hans................great series!
🙏🏽
Great great great video, thanks so much , I think this will help me a lot, I am building high end speakers as a hobby, and I never heard this from any video on youtube, and I have Seen hundreds , so thanks.
👍🏼
Hi Hans nice video full of great advice. I will be putting into practice next time I'm evaluating equipment thanks.😁👍🎧
Glad it was helpful!
Tank you for a educational info I like it a lot and I feel a little stupid because I don’t understand all but I am trying too ducat myself but I vil keep on listening to you so maybe some day I will get it🙏🔊
Thank you Mr. Beekhuyzen.
You are very welcome
Hans is the best!
Does having good audiophile ear not lead to disappointment! I don’t want to hear too flaws!
hello Hans, I will now upgrade my entire SotM system to the SE level for all equipments and power supplyies on for each equipment as well as the master clock.
Have fun!
Perhaps the tonic water would not be a problem if the gin or vodka was omitted. Also maybe a Jonge on its own. Keep the videos coming. Best wishes.
I tried to set the levels with a pink noise at -20db rms I found on SoundCloud. I chose that particular version because I have a cd with an identical track. With the settings you mention in the video (same app), to get something around 70db results in a very loud reproduction level with normal music. Should I choose a different calibration level, maybe?
There is no such thing as -20 dB RMS without a reference. And where the 70 dB is concerned, is that SPL A?
Yes, same settings and same app you showed. As for the -20db thing, I’m reporting what I read. Unfortunately, I cannot paste the link here, otherwise my comment would be removed
Post the link. I make sure I see it.
I have the link now but am abroad. When I get home I will look at it.
The -20 dB is not relevant for you (it might be in certain studio setups). Jus set the volume control so that the sound level is high, though not distorted. It should not be uncomfortable.
why does music sound better listening into the we hours. some people say its because its cleaner less demand. i was thinking that it could be that are hearing becomes more critical into the night and is partly do that our ancestors use to sleep in trees. critical hearing would be a survival advantage. or perhaps our brain shifts into a pre Alpha mode as part of the circadian shift. the listening environment is also much quieter in the evening. anyway its hard to turn my system off and get some sleep. as some will tell you listening to a Dvorak string serenade before bedtime will guarantee a good nights sleep.
The grid might be cleaner, the environmental noise will be lower, you might be less stressed… There can be many simple reasons.
I have always noticed that music always sound better at night to me. I thought maybe it’s because your not using your eyes as much so you hear better.
By the way... our ancestors didn't sleep in trees just to clarify.
Alcohol helps make it sound better
And the girls get hotter.
It would not be that hard to have a computer doing a randomized switch between different setups for the purpose of true blind testing.
If only. Watch this video: ruclips.net/video/QG6LS9VDZlg/видео.html
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Nice, this does provide more insight and the whole process has its limits indeed.
Sounds complicated.
There is no need to understand this to enjoy music. Just have a reliable dealer install a good stereo and you’re done.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel my apologies, for my "sounds complicated" I said that tongue in cheek as we say. I have been a serious music listener for 50 years trying equipment and I'm also a musician who has played for others. I'm pretty good at setting up equipment and managing room acoustics. So I would not trust anyone to set up my home stereo system. It's not complicated for me. Good videos. I'm sure they help many. But hey, I subscribed. Knowledge is good, as is passion.
And some humor from time to time😁
