  • SailGP Season 3 gets under way with the first event in Bermuda to more close, high speed action from the world's best.
If you followed Season Two and thought you knew what the pecking order would look like, the opening event of Season 3 proved otherwise. In typical SailGP style, teams don’t get an edge for long and everyone is capable of delivering a win - Judging when that moment will come is the hard bit.
It has only been a few weeks since we last saw the F50s in action but there have also been some significant changes to the line up. There are two brand new teams for starters, plus a shuffling of the pack when it comes to the crew. In fact, plenty to justify tearing up the form guide and pressing reset.

I do like SailGP very much, it adds just another level of sailing experience to all the others we get to enjoy. Beer Can racing, Optimist races, Weekend club events, the AC, Foiling Week, Maxi races, it is a rich and varied diet is it not? Perhaps a more 'rich and varied' sport than any other sport except perhaps motor racing - so we should rejoice in its variety and innovation! Something for everyone!

Great opening race weekend! AUS are back at it again. Great debut from CAN, nice to see. Hoping JAP will join the pack again soon. Great highlights, but I still like the full coverage more because of the tactics. And at those incredible speeds with those boat sizes, tactics are in order for sure! Go 🇦🇺!

When will Team USA make some changes to get that boat moving?

Are there no rules about who can sail for what country?
Because it seems the national flags on the boats are a mockery.

I am normally a sucker for any racing content…..but for some reason I really struggle to like SailGP, I truly don’t know why, the “national team” approach seems a bit fake given most of the sailors are Brits, Aussies and kiwis; or maybe it’s the really cheesy overly enthusiastic commentary, especially from the American commentator and the excess of overlaid graphics on the coverage - I really want to get into it, but it just doesn’t get my fancy.

In an effort to send the sport of sailing into the hyperdome of American style marketing, they have turned it into boring monotonous drivel that any dumb muscle man can do. This crap has nothing to do with the fine art of sailing.
