About TEDx, x=independently organize event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-
organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep
discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized
events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event.
The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but

For mountain climbers, Ed is the real deal. As far as the the mistake about 18,000 meters by the lady introducing him, she was clearly nervous and we all could slip up like that. She said she had read his book, I believe it. Give her some slack friends, Ed did.
Love this man even though I'm no mountain climber. I'm amazed at his absence of ego! He has uncommon sense ie. a real man. Thank you Ed! He has so much to teach us all even if you NEVER want to even see a mountain!!!
3:16 Ed's talk.. You're welcome!
Much obliged
I've read all of his books, and each one taught me something about what it takes to achieve a dream. What he had to fight through, the pain, the exhaustion, frustration and if he didn't get to the summit, frustration and dismay, must have made the pursuit worthwhile. Climbing mountains isn't my personal dream, but I admire his successes. He seems like quite a personable and friendly guy.
This guy is a model for all others to live by. What a wealth of character and charisma. We need more Ed Viesturs!
I read the book Annapurna in 1990. It was also a tattered copy & I didn't know anything about it. It was a gripping read that I remeber to this day. Prolly time to read it again. Mountain with the highest death ratio, 33%
He is a wonderful speaker and his books are great reading.
Peaks over 18000 meters? That's what you get for reading sparknotes...
Explains a lot why people die climbing.
Great man, very impressive.
One of the greatest climbers of all time in skill and character. Just my non climbing opinion.
Well and he is still alive unlike many of the greats. So he has got the brains as well. Perhaps some luck, but he has the skill and smarts.
wow, better than I thought, 59,000+ft mountains he climbed.
Introduction is too long
A lot of people die for the sake of success rather than common sense to turn back. Summit fever. He said it and used his common sense. He is alive today to share his successful journey after his third attempt.
Haha I like how she says he's climbed all the mountains over 18000 meters. I just climbed a 54,000 foot peak myself recently.
0⁰⁰⁰
What an inspiration!
Dude that lady was down baaad for Ed - 10/10 he got some dome after this talk.
What an inspiration to human kind
Ed's , Da Man .
18000 meters wow !
Terrific speaker! I don't know about the Karma thing at 17.00, but Ed seems a very likable fellow; also, I do recommend reading his books.
people in the comment acting like they never have slip ups while speaking. calm tf down you geniuses
Wow, he has always been so inspirational. I need to visit Nepal for my research on Climbing Sherpas. Where can I find Sherpas in Kathmandu?
My kind of hero... 😱😎💞👋😊
Love ED!!! truly amazing , And good speaker , But the woman at the beginging looks like she's signaling traffic while she talks
lol
18,000 metres ?? err awkward
yeah i caught that lol. Just a slip up.
59000ft? Meh, walk in the park!
WITHOUT supplemental oxygen...
Largest or highest?
She was loving the limelight, and to make it worse, she goes and says 18000 metre peaks. Wow how embarrassing! Hate it when people don’t do their homework.
Another blunder is that it’s not the largest mountains but instead, the highest mountains.
Ed is the complete mountaineer, totally respectful, humble, patient and talented. He is certainly one of the greatest of modern times, and what a fantastic speaker.
I wanted to watch his talk but couldn't get past the introduction.
Teresa Harris I just fast forwarded.
Cmon would ya leave that lady alone who introduced him most people who talk publicly tend to mix up words and stuff also meters is probably a "foreign" unit to her so she wouldnt notice the logical problem immedeatlly
8000 meters lol
She says “ all the peaks over 18,000 meters “ , but there are no peaks over 18,000 meters . That’s like twice the height of Everest lol
what the fuck was that lady on... WHAT THE FUCK DOES A BUSINESS VENTURE HAVE TO DO WITH MOUNTAIN CLIMBING. also congrats Ed on all 18,000 m peaks, what an (unattainable) achievement.
And congratulations to you for never misspeaking! Quite obvious to anyone who heard her, she obviously meant 8000. P.S. Does your "high" horse require supplemental oxygen?
18000 meters wtf.
who has weeks of time off to climb a mountain?
You mean months?
0:50 Peaks over 18000 meters? Are you on crack? Mt. Everest which is the highest is only 8850 meters.
