As a black woman the hair struggle is real, that's why I got locs. The best decision! I also self retie which saves me A LOT of money. I'm on my second set and have been locked for over 10 years if you combine the two sets. I love your videos, currently transitioning into Tech right now and I'm so excited.
Finally a blogger thats relatable!! Im a 28 yr old living in the bay area working in tech, I'm filipino and I'm super mindful of my finances too! You are EXTREMELY relatable. I spend like ~$130 every 3-4 weeks for my lash extensions so I totally understand too about splurging on my beauty so that I can focus on other tasks on my day to day. Why am I only finding you nowww *instant subsribe!*
I always love when you do these types of personal finance vids, sis. Although my company doesn't offer the epic level of food you get as a Googler, what they do provide does save me quite a bit. Bloomberg provides breakfast and lunch with unlimited snacks. I'll take it! Thanks for sharing as usual. Cheers!
@@Bukola1 Yes ma'am. Yes the 29th flr pantry has epic views. I feel like I'm attending Harvard working there. I was surprised by the level of support you get for your role and help advancing your role. Me loves. Thanks for the response. I feel honored :P
I adore these types of videos so much. You don’t even know. I’ve been following you since the beginning. You’ve legitimately inspired me to make so many improvements in tech and finance. Your ability to shift my perspective was amazing before, but when I saw the brand of rice cooker, you’re a goddess now.
Hello from Virginia, love your vids!!! I am a black bi-racial woman trying to get into tech (minoring in undergrad) and hopefully getting into a master's program!!! Thanks for being as transparent as possible about your work/life as a black woman in engineering! It means a lot❤... Keep doing you girl!
I love these videos. This is not bad at all!! It's so hard to avoid all socializing and eating out just for the sake of saving money. I try to explain this to people who don't live here but they don't get it lol. I also like that you included the bit on hair braiding!! Wow, thats expensive!! I think I throw my money into buying clothes and accessories but do my own hair. Sheesh. Definately costs to live in NJ/NY!! I'm still trying to figure it out and actually save money 😪
Gurl I feel ya on the hair, I have naturally thick curly frizzy hair and tryna tame it everyday is alot of time which adds up. I get a brazilian blowout every few months and its so worth it! Time is money and it saves me so many hours multiply by my hourly rate…yeah a couple hundred dollars sounds like a lot but really isn’t when you factor in how much time and stress it saves. Just wake up, shower, and thats it. Straight hair ladies got it good 😭
300 is a lot for what she got. You can get braids cheaper than that. It depends on where you go what neighborhood. I am sure she can get them cheaper in the bronx or brooklyn in certain parts of harlem, but she has a stylist that she likes who is fast and she doesn't have to spend hours at the salon waiting and she can afford to pay those prices, but believe me most of us cannot so there are definitely more affordable options out there especially for the style she got for less then 300+ bucks but maybe the neighborhood wouldn't be as nice or a little sketchy or an area she is familiar with. The type of hair is also a factor in the price. Is it human or synthetic, etc. But the time it saves black women on doing hair is priceless so i don't blame her for paying to get her hair done the way she likes it and it lasts for several weeks so its worth it. I wore my natural hair braided for 15 + years but got tired of them braiding my hair so tight and saw how many women were walking around in a few years looking like space aliens with no edges from alopecia around the edges from those styles some women's foreheads start an inch or 2 back from hair loss. I switch ed to locks and have been wearing them for 12 years. I recently cut them to my mid back because they grew down to my waist and were starting to get heavy. Best decision i every made my edges are intact and the style is practically maintenance free except when it's time to wash and retwist and i found a stylist who only charges 90 to 100 dollars to retwist my hair. A special style is more maybe 20 more but it's worth it since i only go to see her every 5 to 6 wks. In a few more years because i want no maintenance hair I plan to do a big chop and have a super short afro. The young lady is very inspirational i am glad i happened across her channel have been sharing it with others. Loved seeing those other young black women in tech as well.
I love these types of videos along with your personal finance videos. I think the hair looks great and some people may balk at the price but as someone who used to get braids, there is NOTHING like finding a stylist who can do it QUICKLY and give you the style you want is rare lol. You've actually inspired me to take my background in academic medicine and make a switch to tech (currently taking UX research and design courses). Keep up the great work, your channel really means a lot!
I stopped taking my daughter to the beauty parlor. I box braid or cornbraid my teen daughter’s hair , she is a college freshman and it saves her time since she is a full time student. Otherwise I taught her how to upkeep her natural hair and make sure it stays healthy. RUclips content creators like you are a blessing because you share such insightful information. I get all my braiding techniques from RUclipsrs and save thousands of dollars!
Your hair looks beautiful. I wear braids also, I wouldn't trade wearing them for the world. That's so cool how you can eat free at work. I'm subscribing!!!!!
If it hadn’t been for the braids, you would have been really good tbh. What you spent in dollars just saved you so much time so the trade off is worth it. NYC is expensive, especially eating out. I live in JC as well and love walking around. Found a place called Grind that has really amazing coffee and pastries.
What you are saving on transportation (average person spends $500 per month on car-related costs) you can spend on your hair. People are commenting without thinking about that.
I don’t understand the popularity of NYC. I live it the total opposite. Small town near the beach in Australia and our climate is much warmer. Soo much natural beauty and less people. I earn less and spend less but my lifestyle is good. I do appreciate these amazing young women striving for their goals. Thanks for the video.
If you are in your 20s and 30s, NYC is an absolute blast. The diversity, amount of different experiences really can't be matched despite how filthy the streets are.
I use to live in a big city and then moved back home to my small city. I missed the big city until I realized it just a lot of places to spend money. Since I like to travel, my small city is okay for me.
Try 125th street in Harlem and there are tons of places in the Bronx that can braid your hair. And they do excellent work. And you’ll pay no more than $130.
Can you do a jerk chicken coconut rice recipe? Lol you should probably do recipe videos to help people save and eat well! Your videos are always perfect and this one was no exception!
Yeah but definitely makes sense since inflation here in the states is at 9% so costs rise but hey sue absolutely deserves pampering. She’s successful and works hard but it’s great seeing young women like myself enjoy the fruits of their labor
@@heyyyyyy2546 no inflation could convince me to spend that much money on basic hair. If it was long braids, a killer hairstyle I would have said yes girl. But it just looks normal. I’m not on it. Her hard work deserves a proper pamper, not basics and being charged ridiculous amounts.
@@blessedhighlyfavored9126 I’m not from New York but I compare prices to London and now the UK seems cheap in comparison to the US. I just think she could have gotten a better hairstyle for the money she spent.
